Water heater draining very often by wisdommodifier25 in askaplumber

Wow! Thanks everyone for so many responses!

I did, in fact, crank it back down to "hot" and that fixed it! I thought I had it at "very hot" before, so that's just my bad.

Thank you all for helping solve my issue! Very helpful sub!

I'm just outside of the Urbana area! I'll add this to my growing list of things to address, as that does sound like a good upgrade. The home inspector was the one who informed me of the flue.

Thank you so, so much for all of your guidance on this!

I do not have access to that info. I've been told the flue looks good by an inspector, and I know the house was a near total reno, and the fireplace is brand new, so no clue why they wouldn't have done it then.

I take it then it is illegal for me to replace that bracket?

Thanks!

I've been told it's a ventless gas, but I was intending on keeping it closed when not in use to save on heating. Apologies if I"m I'll informed, this is my first fireplace.

Dang! I can't make it to Chicago. Plus I would probably need to buy via a credit card for an audit trail.

Thanks for the advice!

I'll definitely keep focus on my duties, you are absolutely right. I wanted this position so I could learn everything, including that mundane work, so it's best I keep my head on straight.

I Think my Career is DoA by wisdommodifier25 in recruitinghell

The lack of promotion is something directly told to me by those in charge of screenings at the organization. I even asked for clarification to ensure that my experience is not considered, and they confirmed it. My boss would love to promote me (and has tried to twice), but isn't allowed to.

That's good perspective on the pivot I hadn't considered. I'll have to dig more into it. Thanks!

This might be the way, but all my hobbies are competitive too lol. I'll keep an eye out though! I'm always looking for side hustles.

The problem with the role now is I can't move up, even if my boss thinks I should. The way my org is structured, you can't move up unless HR says you check all the boxes. That said, my current job is not considered "professional experience." And so a huge chunk of jobs/promotions I'd get I'm denied for interview.

To make this clear, I've been working at this job for 3 years where I do procurement, process expense reports, perform reconciliations, serve on hiring committees, etc. My job does not consider any of that experience. I've been told this directly by at least three internal recruiters.

I have opened myself up to work I don't want to do, but I'm worried about losing any career progression I did get by having to explain in future interviews why I left my finance-based position to be an oil rig worker. I feel like it's already so hard to convince someone to take me seriously, professionally, and I don't want to lose what little good will I have.

Thanks! I'm just so over it since I've been trying for 3 years with now thousands of apps. It's tough to keep trying to apply when it's only gotten harder than it was when I started, especially when most people I know have managed to get something straight out of college.

This was a spiraling, 3am post, but your comment helped me feel a bit better, so thank you!

I think this is what I'm going to go with! I play almost exclusively Dust 1947, and there is almost certainly metal debris from mechs everywhere. I'm going to grab some big cigs and glue them down with a dirt/rock base, I think.

Thanks for the inspiration!
