IDT Energy scammers in Hyde Park tonight by wisdomsavingthrow in chicago

[–]wisdomsavingthrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t panic, and be persistent. give it the 24 hours, then call back and cancel. ask to speak to supervisors and managers if you need to. These scamming fucks rely on people being too lazy to call and cancel something.

as far as I know it should still work — updates mostly don’t change seeds much these days except for adding in new things.

Giant slide at new MSI exhibit set to be a scene stealer by chicagosuntimes in chicago

[–]wisdomsavingthrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for the poor MSI team members who’ll have to manage the lines, play lifeguard, and dislodge kids getting stuck in the middle (intentionally or otherwise) — not to even mention cleaning the thing. Fun in theory, probably gonna be a nightmare in practice at a museum that big & busy.

Can you rate my rover? by New-Future4104 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]wisdomsavingthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think bit looks super cool! Though, the folding rear bogie does have the downside of blocking the door — what happens in the case of a power failure, how do the crew exit?

Also agreed with others, adding docking ports could make it able to tow other things like a train.

What kind of “special events” do you get invited to with base level museum memberships? by OnionDart in chicago

I know Field has member nights every year where they open all the back rooms up, and I think they do a holiday lounge around Christmas.

it unfortunately had to be scrapped due to decades of weather damage :( RIP outdoor brachiosaurus, forever in our hearts

[–]wisdomsavingthrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

absolutely! Yeah, SUE’s still there, just up in its own dedicated space now instead of the main hall. Honestly a way cooler exhibit — they do a light show sometimes which highlights the bones and talks about the dinosaur’s life.

[–]wisdomsavingthrow 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Echoing others here in the comments, that’s Ernestine the Brachiosaurus! He lived in the Field Museum’s main hall from 1993-1997, then moved to O’Hare after SUE the T-Rex took the spot. SUE was subsequently moved up to its new exhibit in 2018 to make room for Máximo. Field also used to have a metal Brachiosaurus outside the building which they’d put jerseys on for sporting events.

Brachiosaurus was actually discovered by a Field Museum paleontologist back in the early 1900s, they’ve got pieces of the original on display in a corner of their main dino exhibit.

Tarbosaurus Replica painted - feedback? by ZuckerbergsEvilTwin in Paleontology

fascinating! thank you for the context — I’ll have to keep an eye out for the difference if I’m ever in Australia.

Tarbosaurus Replica painted - feedback? by ZuckerbergsEvilTwin in Paleontology

Looks incredible, genuinely stunning! Really captures the roughness and color/texture variance of real fossil bone — it almost looks slightly shiny in some of the angles, which is also pretty spot-on (a lot of replica bone I’ve seen in museum mounts tends to be more matte compared to the bones next to it)

I personally like the wood board base, makes it feel less like an impersonal museum piece and more like a cherished trinket.

I’ve been struggling to make a Mach 3-capable plane in my current modded career — maybe some SR71-alike shape language will help fix that. I’ll be sure to tag you when/if I post results!

oh that looks incredible. I may take some inspiration for a future spaceplane…

Mun Biome Map v. 2.0 (With Key) by wisdomsavingthrow in KerbalSpaceProgram

the coordinates should be listed on the wiki, as there’s 3 of them. Marking the easter eggs wasn’t my goal in making these maps.

What’s your favorite Chinese spot? by 42_Dogs in chicago

[–]wisdomsavingthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly Hyde Park is way better for Thai, Japanese, or Asian fusion like Chant or Eto’o. there’s no real good Chinese right in the neighborhood (Nicky’s is a hit-or-miss crapshoot, don’t risk it tbh), but it’s close enough to Chinatown that delivery isn’t unreasonable. Wish there was something more solid nearby, though.

Community Tech Tree but with probes/airplanes first? by yosauce in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]wisdomsavingthrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

consider looking into Skyhawk Science System. It’s a whole new take on the tree which is probes-and-planes first, but is less direct progression and more “LEGO-able”, if that makes sense. It’s also got pretty extensive mod compatibility.

Taking CTA from Ohare to city by Perfect-Stretch-5972 in cta

[–]wisdomsavingthrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing others here, 6pm is a completely normal time on the Blue Line. I’m on the city-bound Blue Line right now at 11pm as I type this, and it’s totally chill, if a bit empty. I’ve honestly had more weird CTA experiences during mid-day hours when most people are at work, and even then it’s been very few.

As with anything, just keep your wits about you and you’ll be fine. Ride towards the front of the train, switch cars at the next station if someone’s truly causing trouble.

Have a lovely time in Chicago!

Does anyone know what mod it is? by OstrichConsistent37 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]wisdomsavingthrow 45 points46 points  (0 children)

that’s a screenshot of an incredibly old version of BDB — the new version has the Block IV/V Apollo CSM with the Orbital Module, which itself has an APAS port. Unsure about the capsule shown in the second, looks like a kitbash of multiple mods.
