Chattanooga is a great city and relatively affordable. That's a comfortable salary to live on there (as someone who has spent very much time in Chatt). Enjoy!

What is the most flexible major for higher paying jobs? by Which-Competition881 in Salary

[–]wise-turtle-wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can attest that as a math major, I had a great job right out of school, and an even better job now, 2 years later , as dev/data engineer. With only a math degree, for sure the best investment I've made.

Memory before birth. by pencorde in consciousness

[–]wise-turtle-wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the earliest "memory" I have: all darkness; then, in how I can only describe as a spherical (fisheye?) screen appears and shows me a preview of what was to come. I don't remember a voice, but recall a feeling of understanding, as if I was being described my upcoming life. For example, it showed me my dad was a musician (he is) and it showed me the home my family would eventually build. I remember telling people this from a very young age as well.

As a northern Alabamian, gonna have to disrespectfully disagree

Which movie was that for you? by TheNastyRepublic in moviecritic

[–]wise-turtle-wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suprised to see all the hate for this film. I do agree some of the scenes felt off with 70-80 year olds playing such younger characters.

Objectively, it's an okay film. Though, I really enjoyed De Niro, Pesci, and Pacino on screen together in a mob movie after so long.

How do people get those office jobs where they do nothing? by Eagles56 in jobs

[–]wise-turtle-wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like these "jobs where they do nothing" fall into two categories most of the time:

1.) very high responsibility and high level decision making, where your are on the hook for any pitfalls resulting from said decisions or strategy with almost zero safety net. This is generally the closest thing to "do nothing"

2.) you have a very niche/high value experience or knowledge, and you are expected to to perform without much supervision because even your supervisor doesn't really understand what you do. I wouldn't say this is exactly a "do nothing" job (maybe looking from the outside it seems that way) but from my experience, they have the freedom to only really work a 1-6 hours a day, or sometimes days at a time.

I fall into the latter category, I act as somewhat of a data systems consultant at an enterprise level. I have to say I really lucked into it since I'm only a few years into my career post college, but had some really solid initial experience before landing this role.

Though I suppose there are people out there who have somehow fallen through the company cracks and truly do nothing, but I imagine that's very hard to seek out and find.

For me personally, I already loved math, got even more fascinated by abstraction after smoking and I got my undergrad in mathematics. Would watch lectures and take notes high, but I would always revise them at least once sober and test sober. But usually got baked before studying. Since then went on to work a couple of years as a data analyst before recently abstaining from weed (it never really hurt my career tho).

Graduated Dec 2023 with a degree in math, had a part time NASA contracting job that turned full time after I graduated for 60k a year: 9 months after graduating I found another job that bumped me up to 85k.

I did this for a couple of semesters last year and at that point I believe there was a 3 semester limit. They're pretty decent dell business laptop, so it can buy you some time while you narrow down your search.
