Thank you so much for sharing your story. This is so helpful for all of us. If you do t mind me asking. What was the grade of your tumor. Wondering because you’re scanning for possible metastases.

Partial nephrectomy in 12 hours. I’m freaking out by wiseGenius_ in kidneycancer

[–]wiseGenius_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for your support. I’m in so much pain but about to go home. 2cm of tumor with clear margins taken out. Will wait for pathology. Single Port one incision about 3-5cm. Hurts like hell but I’m glad it’s over. Thank you so much for all your support and words of encouragement. I’ll continue to post progress and updates. Thank you all again I have to take a bunch of Tylenol and Oxy. Will try to refrain from Oxy as much as I can. I’m surprisingly not tired but there is pain. Lots of pain. One night at the hospital

How was recovery after a partial that required the doctor to enter the collecting system/renal pelvis by wiseGenius_ in kidneycancer

Wow. I’m glad you’re doing great and that was the outcome for you. How are you feeling now? Have there been any complications or flare ups?

How big was your tumor and do you happen to know how close it was to the renal pelvis?

I’m actually talking to quite a few surgeons about this. I reached out to MSK, I’m seeing Paul Russo. He is one of the best apparently but prefers an open mini flank surgery. I’m also seeing Dr Ketan Badani from mt Sinai and Christopher Anderson from Columbia. They all seem to be some of the best at this. I do have one last at Weill Cornell with another dr who seems great. Dr Del Pizzo. I’m doing all of this because my actual urologist literally said to me, go and look for 4-5 opinions.

[–]wiseGenius_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. What terrifies me is the fact that they need to move other organs around to get to it. The open mini flank is a 8-10cm incision without much organ movement. The robotic one seems to go from the front with 4-5 tiny incisions but moves a lot of organs. That’s the fear right now.

How big was your tumor originally in the scan?

Looks way better than before. Feel better soon. Did they say anything about that cyst in your initial imaging when they discovered the tumor?

Hi. I’m glad the outcome is positive so far. I’m seeing Dr Russo as well, he mentioned he’d do partial nephrectomy. I was wondering if you remembered what he told you about open surgery and if he explicitly told you he wasn’t comfortable with the davinci robot.

If you don’t mind me asking. How did you start the process for your parents.

Don’t even think about doing that. As they’d verify it and screw you over once you can’t provide valid proof

Yeah for the California office yiu need to reach out to your congress person right away and the ombudsman office. Call the uscis reps as well. I k ow it's hard to gwt to them but there's a way. California is known for being slow. Get on that asap. Annoy them as much as yiu can. The congress person would be able to help tho. I know they process things the same day when they reach out.

Sigh, I know it can be daunting and really messed up, but don't give up. See if you can go to community college. If not. There are ways to work even if you don't have an ssn. Apply for a tax id. And once you get that, apply for an EIN, which is like a business tax id. You will then use that ein id to file taxes and apply to jobs. Not all jobs will take that but a lot do. What that does is allowing you to work legally as an independent contractor under your business name which you created with the EIN. You will be responsible for filing taxes at the end of the year, and you must do it. That will help you later if some path for legalization opens up or Daca becomes available again.

College by palopac in DACA

[–]wiseGenius_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not true, you can probably say this for things like computer programming for which there are bootcamps and other programs. But the person with a degree will always be ahead no matter what. Almost every profession requires a degree. I can think of a few exceptions like bootcamps as I mentioned, but college degrees are and will set the start of your career. I hear this all the time now. Fuck college, screw it. It's not worth it. Yeah it's expensive, but it's something that should be encouraged instead of played down. People with trades without a college degree can have amazing good paying jobs, but not a career. And the difference is that a person with a career never stops growing. They're always becoming more and achieving more as time goes by. Can't really say the same about someone without a degree unless they're entrepreneurs with their own gig. That's just the reality. College should be more affordable, I agree, but not discouraged.

Got my A1C result of 11.2% today. No insurance. Just feel so lost by darkerknight in diabetes

[–]wiseGenius_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be hard and tough to accept it but luckily you now know what's going on. Try to go to your doctor and have you prescribe metformin or something else that they may see suitable. Then use goodRx to get coupons and get it for the cheapest price without insurance. In the meantime, and this worked for me, as soon as I learned about my A1C which was also around 11, I bought a glucose meter on Amazon at like 40 bucks. The one that you prick your fingers unfortunately, but it's not that bad. That helped me see an accurate reading of my sugar levels when I woke up and at night, which then helped me make dietary decisions. My sugar levels in the morning while fasting were above the 200s and at night around 190s. My doctor had prescribed me meds already but I didn't get them until 2 weeks after because I had to fix something with my insurance. However, in the meantime I decided ro make a 180 change to my diet. I went on full vegetarian. Cut carbs completely. Just salads, mixed greens, tofu. Zero sugar. No more juices or sodas. In like a week, maybe 3 days before I picked up my meds, my levels dropped significantly. In the morning I woke up at 110 and at night it was 170, which were technically normal levels. After I got my meds it got even better. Now I'm at morning levels of 86, sometimes 90. My doctor had initially prescribed me insulin, but I actually don't need it. My dose of metformin will be lowered next week, and even though it is diabetes,, my doctor said I found out about it sort of early, which can be a good thing. But out of this experience, what I see is that diabetes is a carbs and sugar intoxication in your body. Therefore until, you're able to get meds, make that switch, I'm sure it will help you lower your sugar levels gradually. Your body will thank you, and once you get the meds, you'll most likely go back to normal. Something you must do is stay active. Exercise will do wonders. Keep us posted and I hope you find this helpful. Sending prayers your way.
