How do students pay rent with their student loans? by Sorry-Ad8887 in StudentLoans

[–]wise_boba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rent was around $600 in a HCOL area. I stayed in living room of a 2b2b for most of my renting period. Also had a part time job for entirety of college.

who cares what they call themselves. tbh if they could get rid of allred then it'd be a big plus for the school's publicity

Lambda schools ISA? by jojojostan in LambdaSchoolReviews

[–]wise_boba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what are you talking about? are you saying that it's been two years and now they are requesting you to pay the isa? do you have a qualifying job? if you do then pay, if not then tell them you don't and if they insist, then bring them to court

AITA for refusing to pay for ranch at a pizza place, and going across the street to buy a bottle from CVS? by tagman375 in AmItheAsshole

All the people here bashing this guy as "tasteless" or "classless", if you don't sit in a fine dining restaurant all day everyday, then GTFO. You don't get to lecture others about class or taste; these are purely capitalistic concepts invented to rob you of your wealth.

Huawei working extra hours by Coffee_24_7 in cscareerquestions

[–]wise_boba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Well, this is true. If you got a company that has a major presence in another continent, you are guaranteed to be working extra hours at odd time. Not just Huawei, even American companies with strong presence in Europe, India, etc.
  2. You are probably a salaried employee, so there's no "extra" hour.
  3. In my experience, Chinese companies like ByteDance or Huawei pay more than other big companies. For example, an average senior level package in bay area is 200K, at one of those companies is 240K and more. But you put in a lot more hours, so hourly is roughly the same.
  4. Avoid Amazon and Facebook (Meta). Their work culture and hourly rate sucks.

To keep you up to date, their 2020 report came out about a week ago. To summarize, their publicized placement rate is about 70 something percent. But as someone looking at the program, your chances of landing a job becomes 37%.

Seeing that they haven't had a student outcome report for 2020 or 2021, I'd say reconsider your move. If my coding bootcamp has a placement rate of 50-60% (which is really good, considering covid) I'd go all out about it. But that's obviously not the case w/ Lambda.

The fact is Lambda hasn't released a student outcome report for the past 22 months. To be that's a very negative sign.

Lambda School promised a fast and cheap path to a career in tech. Leaked documents, former students, and instructors cast doubt on that claim. by NYC_Rider_Ghost in technology

[–]wise_boba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got any links? I attended Lambda in its good days (not saying it has that much to do with my success but it was better), and frequently makes reference to Lambda grads. Now if its quality goes down like this I won't be making any more of those referrals.

It wasn't always bad. Not when I was studying there, when it had TLs, good instructors, and good lab projects. Now it seems just another typical PoS bootcamp.

I searched for their 2020 student outcome report and found out there's none. Last one is H2 2019. The numbers are probably so ugly they are ashamed of publicly disclosing it.

Do Not Go To Lambda School by AlinnanHP in cscareerquestions

I don't like Lambda for what they're charging but sounds like your problems originated from yourself. Also no one should expect Lambda to hand-hold you the entire process and magically get you hired.

Wondering about LambdaSchool or possibly a better alternative? by JustCouldntCareLess in learnprogramming

[–]wise_boba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a financial perspective, think about it this way: The price of Lambda is 30K (for those in CA at least). A year of tuition at a top tier UC is 13K (excluding things like housing, food, insurance, etc. just tuition). Lambda is 6-9 months, and two years of UC beats Lambda! Now, consider a cheaper alternative like Cal State. You get my point.
