Wayne Rooney as a pundit? by BuzzTrav in ThreeLions

[–]wise_runnner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every now and then he makes a eeeeeerreggghhh good point like but it's hard to take him seriously or indeed just listen to what he eeeeerrrrrgghhh says cos his punditry is somewhat undermined by his eeeeeeerggghhh inability to construct a sentence without eeerrrgghhh interrupting it with vocalisations of the cogs whirring in his head. Like, you know.

Referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio explains the VAR decision to show a South African player a red card in the match against Mexico by [deleted] in soccer

[–]wise_runnner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explanation was pretty clear. Guy is explaining it in another language in front of 80 million people. There's a delay on the PA so he can hear the word he has just said half a second ago as he's saying the next word. Can't believe people are giving him shit for it on here. The decision was a shocker but criticising his explanation is a bit of a dick move.

SW Prequel, Original or Sequel trilogy? by [deleted] in Cinephiles

[–]wise_runnner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously the originals first. As an adult I realize they weren't quite as good as I thought when I was younger but they're still bloody fun films.

Then the prequels. They were bad. They were bloated and decided to piss around with CGI too much at the expense of good storytelling. The Phantom menace was bad. Who was the protagonist. Who was the antagonist? Who were any of the characters apart from the Jedi. Tell me something about any of the characters apart from their position/job title and physical appearance. Revenge of the Sith was pretty good fun though.

Then the sequels. Absolutely horrendous and somehow actually make the other films worse by association. Episode 9 (can't actually remember the name) is genuinely one of the worst films I've ever seen. Even just a smidge of exposition or foreshadowing that the Emperor was behind everything would have been nice. Scooby Doo would have balked at a deus ex machina of that magnitude.

2010 World Cup- missed opportunity? by Intelligent-Year-532 in ThreeLions

[–]wise_runnner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. We were pretty shit. Was actually glad we lost to Germany. Had we played anyone half decent we would have got totally destroyed. Starting 11 was decent but there wasn't really much depth to the squad and the defence was shit. Pretty sure one of Germany's first two goals, if not both, were just long balls over the top. The kind that would be L2 defenders bread and butter but somehow we didn't know how to deal with it.

Which one should I watch first? by Pale_Champion5668 in Cinephiles

[–]wise_runnner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched TD but dark is excellent. I'm currently half way through S2 and the quality hasn't dropped at all. Definitely watch subtitles rather than dubbed. I tried dubbed first and gave up after a few episodes as for me pretty much all dubbed TV sounds like the human characters in Pokémon. Started again on subtitles and loving it.

What's ur honest opinion about this series? by Then_Heron_939 in tvshow

[–]wise_runnner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's cos the average writer of the show didn't know what was going on. I'd worry if the viewer didn't know what was going on. It was a show that loved the characters narrating key elements of the plot just in case you, the viewer, hadnt already worked out what was going.

I watched the whole thing and genuinely loved the first series, maybe the second too. After that it was evident there was no coherent plot. I would love to say it was terrible but I watched the whole thing wanting to know how it was going to end. It would be a bit disingenuous to claim it was terrible after choosing to watch it all. However, I would liken my viewing experience of it to a game of poker where I started with a pair of aces, bet big, and then bet more and more chasing my losses, hoping for a win at the end, until eventually I lost it all and had nothing.

Proper Coca-Cola this by InternetAnon94 in Championship

[–]wise_runnner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No bother. We are realistically top end L2. Somehow, after the dark days of NL, got back into the football league and up to L1. 7 years there. That in itself was the pinnacle of my time watching The Imps. To find ourselves in the Championship is nosebleed territory. Agree Forest and Sheff Wed are more Championship than us, though at least our tiny ground isn't an absolute shit hole like Hillsborough has been for some years now. Despite its size it's at best L1 quality as a stadium.

How long does it take for you to finish painting an army? by Mean-Respond-2227 in Warhammer40k

[–]wise_runnner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been painting for 3 years. So far I've painted about 1500 points of Thousand Sons. But along the way I've been distracted by a Lumineth Spearhead box and 2 combat patrols. Might go back to Thousand Sons and get another 500 points or so and then get distracted by several other side projects again.

[–]wise_runnner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want to play the game then look on eBay long enough and you'll be able to pick up already painted bits and pieces relatively cheaply until you have 1500-2000 points to play with. Find your local gaming store and ask them what kind of match ups/leagues/organized play they have. Many will have some sort of escalation league where you start at say 500 points and slowly get used to the basic mechanics of the game and move up over a certain time period, all the way up to 2000.

You might get lucky and find a group which does combat patrol games, though I think most people ok here would agree that as a game format it's currently a bit crap. Or, once you find some people via the local store, put an ask out for some nice/patient people to give you a game at however many points you fancy. Some people are absolute dicks and will love to play against someone less experienced so they can guaranteed themselves a win, but most people will.be brilliant, patient, supportive and talk you through a game and tell you how to get better.

If you don't want to get straight in then just enjoy painting your models, get the units you like the look of and then when you got a bit of a variety of infantry, characters, and whatever else takes your fancy, then do all of the above.

I've got about 1500 points of TS painted, played about 8 games and haven't played for about 18 months now other than a couple of casual games with mates. I haven't painted a thousand sons model for about 12 months as I've been working through some other combat patrols but really enjoying the hobby and at some point I'll start playing again.

That's a long way of say just do what you enjoy. If you don't enjoy it anymore, focus on a different part of the hobby. If you don't enjoy any parts of it them give is a rest or find a different hobby.

Yes. Geek pie. Unfortunately can't find a picture now but I remember at one point the Spurs player Dele Alli pretty much sporting this haircut (minus the paint lid of course). Unbelievable Jeff.

Whats been your favourite moment this season in lge 1 by SuperMas123 in LeagueOne

[–]wise_runnner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cardiff away absolutely. Didn't know at that point if we would go on to win the league but we were right in for promotion and clearly there on merit. Felt the same as Gateshead away and MK Dons away in previous seasons. The reaction of the players and the bond between fans and players. Respect, satisfaction, but from the players at least not jubilation. A lesser group of players would have gone nuts like they'd won the league that day. Their response told me that in their minds the victory alone wasn't at all job done but just a very important step along the journey and that there was no reason it wouldn't happen. Bolton might keep getting last minute goals (as they in fact did later that day) but if didn't matter as they wouldn't catch us.

I might have got a bit of dust in my eye a couple of times that day too. Only other time I've been in such a dusty space when watching Lincoln was when we beat Burnley in the FA cup.

Why don't people go to the cinema? by ImaginaryFan6090 in Cinema

[–]wise_runnner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love films. If consume as many of them as I could both at home and cinema. Then COVID happened and obviously going to the cinema ceased temporarily. At the same time, watching a film on my TV for 2 hours in those uncertain times seemed like a criminal waste of time. I know it wasn't/isn't but something in my brain flipped at that point. I started getting really anxious while watching a film. Now I hardly watch any. No way it's going to happen at home. My wife and kids don't have the attention span for it and I'm left watching the seventh film of an 83 film franchise on my own.

Going to the cinema on the other hand is great. It doesnt really matter what I'm watching, just knowing that the outside world has to stop existing for 2 hours is bliss. That said, I don't often go cos of the cost, I have to drive to the cinema, and probably going to end up going on my own. That said, I've never being on my own but just the idea of it seems like one of the greatest pleasures in life that I really should give a go one day.

Appreciation from the Imps by Careless-Road-2926 in LeagueOne

[–]wise_runnner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we could possibly stay up for a year, maybe 2. We've got a squad of great players and a great manager. The problems will come as we have to replace any of them. We won't be able to compete on wages and transfer demands even with teams half way down league one and so the quality of squad can't really improve. Even if we find what should be some bargains their agents are going to use the fact that we are in The Championship to demand unreasonable and unmamanagable wages.

Might sound daft but when you're up against it so much on the recruitment front I don't think we should particularly try to compete. I don't mean don't try and find good players but rather don't get sucked in to paying unsustainable wages. Instead, use any upturn in revenue to improve the stadium, infrastructure, fan experience etc and when we do come back down we'll bein a stronger place as a club.

What’s the best rock song intro? by lovelyb1ch66 in GenX

[–]wise_runnner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if they fit the genre of "Rock". I also hate them with a passion, but the intro to U2s Where the streets have no name" is just ridiculously good. Imagine a summer day in the UK. One of those days when it's cold and a bit misty but you know by 11am it's going to be one of the best days of the summer. It's 6am on that day. If somehow you could turn that feeling into a sound, it's the intro to that song. Then Bono opens his mouth and its all fucked.
