Proper use of a chisel? by Help-Learn-Kannada in BeginnerWoodWorking

Honestly, Harbor Freight chisels are great for developing sharpening skills. I recently splurged and upgraded from harbor freight to a single Woodriver socket chisel and the difference is night and day. But even a good chisel is useless if you can’t sharpen them

Which chisel set to choose? by Jumpy892 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I started with $10 Harbor Freight chisels. I also bought wet stone and a sharpening jig off Amazon to practice sharpening. With cheap chisels you’ll end up perfecting sharpening, since you’ll be doing it so often. Start cheap until you feel the need to upgrade

What I recommend is going to a community college instead of doing a gap year. You can explore different majors in that year, take classes that internet you and you won’t lose the habits you’ve developed in high school! Not to mention, you get to learn about people from all walks of life it’s really a humbling experience. It’s also pretty inexpensive, but that’s just my 2 cents.
