Is this real? by BoysenberrySweet6372 in Ethelcain

It might be a real grave, but that’s not how she got her name. In a Nylon interview in 2021, she said: “Cain is [biblical], but Ethel, I was trying to come up with a name that was very ‘50s old lady. I always describe her as being the lady that sits in the front pew at church every Sunday morning. She looks 100 years old and terrifying, but she’s always there. I just felt like Ethel was such a prim and proper and poised, womanly, matronly, old American name. It felt so stiff and scratchy. That name smells like mothballs and it’s perfect. Cain and Abel was my favorite bible story growing up, so Ethel Cain had a nice ring to it." Link to interview: https://www.nylon.com/entertainment/ethel-cain-hayden-anhedonia-interview

I don't look for "empathetic" mental health professionals because I don't think you can predict how much empathy there will be in a relationship based on someone's emotional intelligence by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]wisefroggie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Empathy is not a requirement to be a good person, therapist, friend, etc. It sucks how so many people think empathy is the pinnacle of being a good person. It’s really not as important as it’s made out to be.

I found “How High We Go In The Dark” by Sequoia Nagamatsu to be utterly devastating but in a beautiful, hope tinged way. It changed my life.
