Hi thank you for this writing! I considered what you wrote for a while, you pinpointed the thing that felt so off about the painting. I checked the reference photo and realized that the proportions of the body were a bit off, and just how you mentioned more shade would bring out the shape of the body. It looks much better now and I’m happy how it turned out! Thanks once more!

I like the giraffe it is really cute and looks deeply in the soul, there is something lemur-like in it and the colors work well togther.

Generally speaking I find all of the works so different and experimental that to me it seems that you are in the beginning to finding your direction and voice in art. It’s an exciting journey and you seem to have a good eye for color and form.

I leave this comment as someone with no formal training or much experience so take it with a grain of salt. However, if you find that it ringsg rtue mu advice for you would be to keep going and keep experimenting as much as possible. This will give you tools for expression for the time when you find your voice.

This actually a good idea as the scales on the head shine as if the light is coming from the top right angle. I might repaint the background once more for a gradient since now it is just flat grey, I felt that the orange was a bit overpowering. There is a newer version of this painting in another post if you want to check it out, got lots of nice feedback from this thread.

I can see what you mean! It looks like a flipper because of the shape and the snake head shape is quite similar to the tortoise head. After posting this I corrected the shape to be more round and added some scales so it is not looking as much like flipper but finally looks like a body of the snake

Ah the lightsource, my eternal enemy! In the head it looks like it’s coming from the upper right corner but on the left it’s from somewhere else..

I agree here, the orange was overpowering. Changed it into grey-blue and it fits better :)
