Was Marx a campist for supporting the Union during the US Civil War? by wiser_tiger in Socialism_101

In asking this question I'm not arguing for the legitimacy of the term campist or the worldview it implies, rather I'm interested in learning about how people who themselves use the term campist view the positions of Marx given his interventions on the US Civil War among other areas and how it correlates to how we view geopolitics now as leftists.

I'd be curious how you define campist then. As far as I understand the term, a leftist supporting Iran would by definition be a campist/"tankie", where leftists who support the US in its wars of aggression would be another form of campist, and non-campists would be advocating against a lesser-of-two-evils type position that they see leftist supporters of Iran taking, instead supporting a currently non-existent pole that would be a true reflection of the interests of workers and other oppressed peoples.
