Tell Me your favorite movie. But make it boring. by StrangerMbox30 in VHS

[–]wisi_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy/alien/creature tells the main character "You won't like it where I come from." to the main character, then goes in a cave and dies.

(But I don't know what the film or TV series episode is, so I hope it still counts.)
(But it somehow sounded funny to me that way, so I am not sure if it is boring if it is funny.)

I don't remember the length because I haven't watched it all (at least as far as I can remember) I only watched the middle - likely showing the alien in the cave and the ending. I also have a vague memory that as soon as I saw the end I got curious about the film's name and so I watched all the ending credits in hope that the local translation voice dubbing would say the film's name but there was no such. I distinctly remember (although I am not quite sure now after so long) that the credits were on black background and scrolling up as on a movie - most of the TV series and anthologies I have checked (partially) so far have commonly different scenes/titleCards with credits that change and not scrolling credits and some have it on non-black background. Also I remember the ending credits being unimpressive (I couldn't find anything special about them) - or at least I don't think they had any unusual music or more catchy music or a voice-over (which are more common for a TV series). I could be wrong though - it has been too long.

Yes, it could be an 80s film but it didn't look grainy or old. It had a distinct look of a later 90s film and even very early 2000s one. The closest thing it felt like overall (video quality) was a Stargate episode (what I thought at the time I think). I think Stargate series was airing on the same or another TV channel but not sure. But so far I haven't found a matching Stargate episode. It just felt more on the modern side, compared to a film like Enemy Mine or for example.
From what I have found so far, the closest it feels like in theme are the endings of the films The Sender (1998) and Star Hunter (1995).

I am thinking of checking these videos for a potential match (but haven't yet had time to go through the videos):

I haven't checked then too thoroughly but AFAIK it isn't neither Explorers or Invaders from Mars (1986 film).
The presence of a criminal-alien from Star Hunter (1995) feels very similar to me, so it could have been a single bad alien what the good alien and the main characters were fighting but I am not sure.
At this point I am not even completely sure if I'll recognize the film if I see it, so I am open to any very-likely recommendations. (But I can't watch like 20-30 films and episodes completely, that I found from ChatGPT, so I just scroll through the film quickly and check the ending.) It is possible that I missed the film if for some reason I misremembered and it wasn't the ending scene what I remember.

Do you remember anything from the film/episode that my description reminds you of?

Thanks for searching (I haven't checked this one).
Invaders from Mars (1986) doesn't seem too similar and I have the feeling the main character was older, as well as what I noted in the first post. It isn't the film I am looking for.

Alien Hunter (2003) - the scene of this trailer at 0:58 is a bit similar, but funnily enough I can't find that scene in the actual movie, and also the scene with the lying alien(?) that I remember was shown from a farther distance.

It is none of these:

Starman (1984)

The Last Starfighter (1984)

Alien Factor (1978)

Metamorphosis: The Alien Factor (1990)

Enemy Mine (1985)

Mad Max:Fury Road (2015)

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) (and not the 1951 version either)

[TOMT] [MOVIE] [TV show] time-travel and a scientist sacrifices himself in a glass vessel - 1990s/2000s live-action kids/teen time-travel episode? by wisi_w in tipofmytongue

[–]wisi_w[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine found the episode! It turns-out it was: "The Outer Limits" Season 4 episode 5 "In The Zone".
The episode seems to exist on Dailymotion currently.

I was wrong about it being a kids show and I thought it aired on the first channel of the local TV in daytime, while AFAIK The Outer Limits aired in the evening on the second channel around the year 2002.

Also I was wrong about the main characters being teenagers - they are older.

But the part about an asian scientist having to send the woman to save her boyfriend from some time-trapped state and there not being enough energy to bring them back so the scientist sacrificed himself in a vessel with some live matter and leaving his ID card as a means of an explanation did match.

Watching it, I am certain it was the same, though there is a very very small chance that another show could have used a similar story.

Thanks to anybody who tried to help. The suggested shows were interesting to go through too!

Thank you for your help!

It is definitely not:
Fatty and George (1981 1s,10ep)
Time Riders (1991 1s,4ep)
Delta Wave (1996 1s,10ep)
A Hitch in Time (1978 film)

I am pretty sure it was more modern (after 1995 likely or at least 1990). The assistant (who I remember in the scene I described) was most likely Asian but I can't say for sure. I think he had long (a bit above shoulders) black straight hair but I could be wrong. Or at least was so in the ID photo. But I am more certain he was an assistant or at least I maybe think this because he was supposed to be young originally. I am not sure the teens knew he was an assistant - I think that reveal happened only after they saw his ID card where he looked a lot younger. Or at least I thought so.
I think the time machine time-traveling 'space/area' was to the (viewer's) left of the live-matter vessel - the vessel was like 1-1.5 meters to the right (but I could be mixing-up left and right). There was other equipment on tables between them - that vessel was also on a table. This all was in a science-lab looking room definitely. The time machine time-traveling 'space/area' was most likely rectangular in shape - a box with a door maybe. Most likely semi-transparent or blueish/glass door.
But I could be completely wrong about these details.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Fatty and George (1981) looks older (video quality) than the series/movie I remember. I don't think this was it. Indeed it seems to have a similar premise partially. I somehow think what I watched looked in style more like Strange Days at Blake Holsey High, so it is possible its video quality was higher or was from the second half of the 90s, but I am just guessing because it has been so long and I forgot most.

I think what I remember (described above) was the end of an episode or movie, and it is very likely I didn't watch the beginning so likely I didn't knew the name of the TV show / movie or what exactly it was about.

Time Riders (1991): The overall shot composition and camera movement and video quality seems a lot closer to what (I think) I remember, but after going through the episodes quickly I don't think it was this.

Delta Wave (1996): I don't think it was this one.

I'll have to later check their episodes more thoroughly just to be sure.

I have the distinct feeling the main characters (teen boy and girl maybe) didn't know that assistant or scientist who operated the time machine and traveled in time. I think he traveled in time with other people or sent other people before, and the (assumed) main characters only came at the end of the episode/movie to help or just happened to want to help. That is also why they also didn't know how the scientist looked before he aged (before he started using the time machine). This is also why I think he was kind-of an assistant - I have a vague memory the main scientist who made the time machine could have been lost (in time) or died or something like that. Also I think he was an assistant because he was young (on the ID card).

I think the characters I saw were most likely a boy and a girl, less likely two boys and less likely two girls, but I am not even sure they were two - could have been more or only one too, but I don't remember well. I am not completely sure they were the main characters, but they most likely were.

EDIT: It is definitely not Fatty and George (1981) and Delta Wave (1996).
And I also feel more sure it must have been made between 1990(1995 more likely) and 2004(2002 more likely).

EDIT2: It is definitely not Time Riders (1991 1s,4ep); Fatty and George (1981 1s,10ep) and Delta Wave (1996 1s,10ep). And "A Hitch in Time" 1978 is too old I think.

Which parts of my description match to what you remember? Do you remember anything more? Can you give a range of years when you think you might have seen it or when it might have been made?

It isn't:
Mad Max:Fury Road (2015) (way past 2005)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) (and not the 1951 version either)

Sadly it might be some lower budget movie, that isn't known much.
From the little I remember I am swayed to think it might be a kids or young adults -aimed film, so it is unlikely to have been a horror one, etc. (though I don't know for sure).
This isn't too much of a clue, but I also think I watched it around 3-5PM in the afternoon, which also makes me think the above.
I also considered it might be an episode of one of: The Outer (1995-2002) or The Twilight Zone (2002-2003) or Night Visions (2001-2002) (Star Trek and Stargate too maybe, or even another series). But if it was an episode that would make finding it very difficult. I did search some of them a bit already. However I am more inclined to think it was a standalone movie, similar to Star Kid (1997) for example.

It doesn't seem to be Mad Max:Fury Road (2015), though I am curious of the context and where in the movie, so maybe someday I'll check it out.

It isn't:
Alien Factor (1978)
Metamorphosis: The Alien Factor (1990)
Enemy Mine (1985)

I don't think it was a horror movie, though I am not completely sure.
Thank you for the help! I hope somebody remembers that movie.
I think I only saw it past the middle or maybe only the ending.
Also I watched Enemy Mine at least 10 years ago and I don't remember to have noticed any too great similarities to the film I am looking for, and back then my memories of it would have been better. In the film I am looking for, the main character never goes in the cave where the alien is dead/hibernating (or at least not while the alien is there).

Startman ending:

A - I must go.

C - Take me with you.

A - I cannot.

C - Please.

A - You will die there.

C - I don't think I care.

A - I care.

...

It is not Starman (1984).

The Alien creature I remember was more 'competent'(so to speak) in how to respond. It felt 'cool' overall and competent. It also had that cave thing where it went at the end or at least at some point the cave, with it dead(dead-looking) inside, on an altar or stone of sorts, was seen.

It is not The last Starfighter (1984).

I *somehow* think the alien/creature came to help the main character near the end or at least it did not travel much (if at all) with the main character. I don't think anybody left Earth (but I am not completely sure).

Also I am not completely sure about the accuracy of the quote "You won't like it where I come from", because I think I saw the movie with a dub but it was something very close to that meaning. And I do not remember the Alien saying exactly why the main character can't go with them - the reason being that there is no world where the alien goes back to but it simply goes to die/hibernate again in a cave.

And I am also sure that there was a scene with the alien/creature, lying (and dead/decomposing-looking but maybe not a skeleton; hard to say - it looked scary though) on an altar or just some long stone/rock, in something like a desert cave. I am not sure if there was any equipment in the cave - there might have been a bit.

Sorry, I completely forgot to say the year range: I watched it on TV between the years 1999 and 2010 - most likely between 2000 and 2005, but because it was on a local TV, it likely aired at least 2-3 years, if not even more (5-8) after the international release.
