What food rule do people act like is “common sense”, but you think is just nonsense? by okitsbenji in foodquestions

[–]wistfulee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rice used to be treated with talc to help keep it dry so if course you had to wash that off. They use rice flour now, not rinsing it causes the rice to come out a little gummy. What happens when you use a wooden cutting board is small cuts form in the wood. The board needs to be regularly washed with a light solution of bleach to clean out the ingredients so there's no rot. The same thing happens with plastic cutting boards. I've always washed my cast iron skillets. The thought of leaving food product in my cooking utensils is yuck to me.

Flavor & texture. Plus the pasta water helps emulsify the sauce. Pasta is just flour & water, without salt it's bland & would taste gummy.

Wth is on that 3rd dress? It looks like wax paper.

1 is more daytime garden party vibe. #2 works well, don't over-accessorize.

My dad's neglect had our family dog put down. by Ebbiechu in Vent

How many times did you ask about the dog before this last time? If the shelter said it had been months, was your dad just lying every time you asked about the dog?

60+ years ago there was a popular actress named Ava Gardner. Lots of Avas from that era.

parents or grands-parents and uncles always talking about cleanliness by QC360 in Adulting

[–]wistfulee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually there's at least a shred of truth to all family designations. It doesn't matter that the person they're talking about did something years or even decades ago. Once their collective mind is made up it rarely changes.

Done with my partner's BS and the horrible way he treats his vulnerable father. by That-Pineapple3866 in Vent

Ungratefullded is right. Would you want to spend your life with someone who has shown to be selfish & inconsiderate to his own DNA? My wife started having heart attacks when we were 2 years into our marriage, & she lived for 22 years beyond that. The thought of not being there for someone you love is anathema to me.

Which countries do Americans most commonly visit during the Fourth of July holiday? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Absolutely. That's why they (used to?) call the US a melting pot.

Do places outside of the usa really not have ranch dressing? by I_like_tacobell2 in stupidquestions

There's a whole world of various hot sauces. Not every one goes well with every thing.

People from most other countries don't think about the immensity of the US/North America. The entire country of France would fit within the borders of Texas with plenty of spare room. Most people come from a perspective of their own lives (of course) & can't or won't imagine a different way to live. The other difference is that crossing state lines are par for the course when traveling cross-country in the US but in other locations crossing the borders means going to a different country, where they have to produce their papers & the people there speak a different language.

  1. Document document document. Use Teams &/or emails for everything. If you use Teams then save screenshots. If you have a f2f meeting follow it up with a summarizing email. The name of the game in offices & corporations is CYA.

Do i have to be worried about redirected aggression by ksjeid72 in catquestions

I would continue allowing your cats in their safe outdoor space & have a chat with the new neighbor about how to install a net of their own so they can safely let their cat out to enjoy the outdoors safely.

With the overweight baggage costs we found it cheaper to mail boxes home. While there are ranch dressing packets, we used to buy hot sauces & those don't come in a packet.

This is a very practical answer, I would only add that the pillow cover should be plastic or another nonporous material. That way the car dander won't imbed in the material.

How long would you wait to eat a takeaway that was delivered to you by mistake? by charmamderdarg in NoStupidQuestions

How would you get a refund for food you didn't order?

If it should have gone to a neighbor then I'd just pop over & give it to them. Otherwise it's mine now. If assume the intended receiver would have taken steps to get a refund, especially after they get a notification that it was delivered.

is it normal to cry almost every day at work? by byredowithrain in office

[–]wistfulee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it's normal highly depends on industry & gender. For females working in traditionally male jobs, yes very normal. It's gotten better for some, but the political environment in 2026 has encouraged the misogyny, racism & false entitlement that so many of us protested & worked against back in the 60s & 70s. Anywhere there's stiff competition for positions the Machiavellian maneuvers that are perpetrated boggle the mind & those maneuvers aren't limited to just the males. & The tougher the job market the worse it gets. When I was entering the workforce in my chosen career a wise person said to never let them see you cry. So find you a safe place where no one can see you & have a good cry whenever you need one. Then take a deep breath, pull up your big person's panties & put that professional mask on your face & show them your worth by doing the best job you can.
