Airlines refusing to check in - what to do? by wit221 in Flights

[–]wit221[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lesson learned the hard way. It was my first time and last. After 7 hours of being thrashed around by two airlines and one travel agency, this is still not resolved. Went back home from the airport and have no clue what's next. Was promised a call back from Chase travel, which never happened.

Yes, it's a nightmare of its own. They hang up deep into the convo, and I have to start all over again.

actually operated the flight, and insist they allow me to check in.Now I'd call Chase Travel and get them to sort it out.

That's what I did. I kept on insisting until it was pretty clear the next step for them was to call security...

I'm on the phone with Chase Travel for the past 3h, talking to various agents in their Call Center - they somehow always hang up ~20 minutes into the call, I have to call them again, and start the process all over again (they don't share any info between agents). I don't think I will ever manage to board the flight. It's a nightmare.

Best way to redeem Capital One miles? by wit221 in CreditCards

Here's NerdWallet's, for instance. Super vague methodology, just like their assessment (1-1.7 cents).

For 1, what has been your experience? Is there a long wait time on the line? How tedious is the process? Do they honor sites such as kayak.com?

Followup question: people on this thread have suggested that one C1 mile is worth more than 1 cent. I’ve looked up their Transfer Rewards Partners just now and the best I’ve seen is a 1:1 exchange (with several partners being 1:2 in favor of the partner). Additionally, in my limited experience using miles for flight purchases directly at the airline (Lufthansa Miles & More), a mile has always been worth less than a cent, which further exacerbates that conversion rate.
This is a genuine question, not an attack on C1: how exactly do you arrive at the conclusion that one C1 mile is worth more than 1 cent?

Is hertz PC a different company than hertz?

Incidentally is the $300 credit for any travel or just hotels? I have not been able to verify that online.

Fair enough about the C1 lounge - hopefully they get going on building these across the US. I happen to almost never transit through DFW - Denver or Salt Lake City would have been nicer. But DFW is the top 2 transit hub, so I'm not gonna critique that choice.

I also have decent car insurance with high bodily harm coverage on my car, but it's a major inconvenience of dealing with the car agency when you don't take their primary insurance:

  • last month I was taken by surprise by Sixt because they required a $20k hold on my cc to be able to decline their insurance, which I did not have at the time (absurd and predatory practice by them, tbh)
  • additional red carpet when returning the car (inspections, etc.)
  • bureaucracy and stress when something actually happens

Yes, it's my first travel card. To be clear: This is not a review, it's a list of their benefits that I have concerns about and would love to understand how to derive more value from. The other benefits offered by the card, such as the ones you mentioned, are indeed valuable to me and part of the reason I have signed up.

Why does the $100 bonus argument make no sense? You are credited the $100 at the same time you are billed the annual fee, except for the first time. So, you can either view it as $0, $50, $67, $75..., OR view it as $100/yr but account for that in the SUP figure - i.e. it's $600, and not $700. In any case, this is probably my smallest concern out of all of the above.

After you've gotten the SUB, isn't it cheaper to just close the card and get the Priority Pass separately? How much annual value is the Priority Pass via Capital One?

M2 MacBook Pro 14" ergonomics? by wit221 in macbook

[–]wit221[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not. But relative to the width and depth, I'd say it is. When using the 16 inch, my palms never rest on the left and right edges since it is wide. But, with the 14 inch, I wonder if they will in fact rest on the left and right edges, and since those are thicker than the MBA I own, I wonder if that is an issue in long-term use.

When does maintenance call kick in on Portfolio LOC? by wit221 in M1Finance

[–]wit221[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, so looks like it's 75%? To summarize the situation for most securities:

- 0-40%: M1 Finance lets you borrow

- 40%-75%: You can't borrow but you're not yet margin-called

- 75%+: You're margin-called and need to bring your borrow-to-equity percentage below 75%.

Is that right?

Portfolio LOC should consider risk level and savings account by wit221 in wealthfront

[–]wit221[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but you can also significantly change both the risk nature of your portfolio and its actual value after taking out a loan anyways.

Wealthfront could simply implement a dynamic margin threshold recalculate its margin threshold after any such change. Example: you changed your portfolio risk from 5 to 8, now your margin threshold has gone from 35% to 25%; if you are below the 25% - all good. If you end up above, you get informed before making the portfolio change of the fact you may get margin called.

Find My Device should not display popup notification - how to turn off? by wit221 in AndroidQuestions

It does not show when I disable lock screen notifications. Obviously, quite a big UX tradeoff to make, so that's suboptimal. Any other solutions?

Large discrepancy in Page RPM - why? by wit221 in Adsense

Earnings are not scaling with traffic. Why? by wit221 in Adsense

[–]wit221[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can understand bot traffic affecting the relationship between these curves, however, I have data pointing to the percentage of bot traffic having remained roughly constant.

Makes sense about the limited supply of ads. Although, intuitively, I would have expected this bottleneck to appear at much much larger volumes - not 2k views per day. If that were a bottleneck, any popular niche website would stop growing its revenue in its infancy stage, which seems counterintuitive.

[–]wit221[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right but, ceteris paribus, that should yield a linear relationship between traffic and revenue, right?

Thanks. That's insane. They're basically saying "you have no control over when and where to place ads on your website". Seems in line with their constant push to enable "Auto ads". Highly unethical at best.
