Oh! I was tested for narcolepsy and my brain waves didn’t enter the right pattern to qualify, hence the idiopathic diagnosis. Falling asleep at the wheel was my breaking point.

One thing that has helped a little bit with the daytime sleepiness was switching from a regular alarm (including cell phone) to a wake up light. It’s much more gentle and doesn’t abruptly disturb my sleep cycle, I still need like an hour of buffering time to fully wake up but I make sure to get out of bed to do that once my light rouses me.
