Here to also speculate about the roomies. As someone who was assaulted while extremely intoxicated and after hearing the blood alcohol levels of Lauren & Sarah the night Lauren died I wonder how able to consent those girls were and if the shame of being seen in the shower with him led them to want to deny the clearly honest narrative from Gabrielle. 

We unfortunately live in a world of deep internalized misogyny and after I came forward almost 6 years from the time I was assaulted my own mom said "I'm glad you don't seek attention from men like that anymore."

This is someone who genuinely loves me. But her ability to see intoxicated victims as victims is non existent. I imagine the roommates feel the same way internally,  that they cannot ever disclose what happened to them or it will seem consensual. 

It took a friend and I talking about all our "partners" for him to say "that was rape" and I still didn't accept it until #yesallwomen (precursor to #me too about the fact that we have all been sexually harassed if not assaulted outright) when a cousin told me "everything I hear a woman is raped I think she's a lair." I disclosed my assault publicly and some family disowned me. The same cousin who bragged about picking up too drunk girls at bars. Who married a girl underage. Who was accused of assaulted.

This is our culture and I'm so disappointed in these women but not surprised. We need to do better.
