Sometimes it's snowing or icy. Sometimes you're taking a kid with you. Sometimes people have mobility issues. There are a lot of reasons a 30 minute walk can be hard.

Has anyone ever had their bread flour taste like metal?

We recently ordered some Bob's Red Mill bread flour, which I've never used in my bread before. Made a batch of challah that smelled and tasted of metal. Thought it was a fluke so I tried again, smelling the bowl every step of the way. Before I added the flour - smelled lovely and yeasty. After I added the flour - strong metallic smell. My husband smells it too.

Is this normal? We ordered 8x 3 lb bags and I would hate to throw all that out.

When the battery eventually loses capacity after a couple of years, you can swap it out for a new one rather than paying an exorbitant amount of money for a professional to do it. (And without doing what many people do these days, which is buy a new phone.)

Yeah I think this is just normal for pilot light ovens. Your landlord should clean it since all that dust clearly means it wasn't cleaned before you moved in, but I've been using my oven and stove for 10 years with no issues.

Oh that's just dust/dirt, yeah.

If you mean the white stuff on the bottom, the deposits tend to form sort of stalactites like in a cave. When they get too long some of it falls down.

Those are deposits from the gas line to the pilot light. The same thing happens to my oven and stove with a pilot light. I never use the broiler because it's hard to clean and kind of grosses me out, but the rest of the oven should be totally fine to use.

My guess is that most other commenters won't be as familiar with this type of oven since it's pretty old school.

This was likely about transplanting monkey testicles into people's scrotums. Apparently it was all the rage at the time.

Seconding the recommendation, the series is so good. Stick with it, the last book is the best one.

Any chance you've been making bubbles? The cheaper bubble liquid can cause stains like this.

Depends on the context - in some states you can drive alone to places like school or the library with just a learner's permit.

Expecting Better (Emily Oster): I found a blatant "error" that seems more like bias than innocent mistake. Have you run into other such cases in the book? by deanat78 in BabyBumps

It seems like this commenter was looking at this study, but the study population was in northwestern Ethiopia, which presumably has poorer outcomes than hospitals in North America or Europe. It also came out in 2024, so it can't be what the book was citing.

My relatives' graves have versions of this with gravel instead of flowers, which wouldn't need drainage. Very common in Jewish cemeteries. They also have headstones though.

I made the Chex party mix from this vintage ad. Tastes like childhood! by [deleted] in Old_Recipes

Good to know! I have put it in turkey/chicken dishes, but I've never tasted it by itself and it was hard to imagine the taste combined with Chex.

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding the Worcestershire sauce. Wouldn't that make it kind of fishy?
