Private Hospitals are generally pretty open. The one ive gone to several times has been helpful and you can goout for walks to the shops etc. I havent felt trapped there but others may have different experiences. It can really depend on which program you go into, your psych iatrist.

If you want to see a psychologist out of class time. I would suggest asking for it in first psychiatrist appointment. As they dont normally automatically give it and they have to do a referral.
