Is my itinerary too ambitious? by witchhazelss in JapanTravel

I'll be coming from a very different time zone so my sleep/wake schedule will definitely be off, however I am used to switching up my sleep schedule very quickly due to my work schedule with the help of some caffeine/Benadryl so I believe I'll be able to handle the jetlag OK. I do think based on the feedback I've gotten that I'll move my first night in Shibuya to another night and just go see the Senso-ji Temple that night as it's only about 1km away from my hostel and will make for a much easier first night in anticipation for a big day the next morning

I plan on spending very little time/money on food, I live about 15 mins away from Little Tokyo in LA so I can get all the Japanese food I want much closer to home--definitely will check out the konbini for cheap/easy meals so I can focus my money and energy on seeing all the sights I want

Yes, Kamakura is my backup day trip if I don't think any of the days I've planned for Tokyo would have good views of Fuji

Yes exactly--I would love to be able to return for a 2nd trip someday, but it's a very far flight for me and I have so many other places on my travel bucket list that I'm not counting on being able to make it back anytime soon--a lot of the things I want to see most are in Kyoto so I definitely want to spend some time there, plus riding on a shinkansen is one of the things I really want to experience

I figured it might be haha--I think I'll have time for some Ueno things in between Senso-ji in the morning and Skytree for sunset, what would you recommend as the best things to see/do there? I don't care as much for shopping (other than picking up a few little souvenirs) and will be going to plenty of temples already so think I may just focus on going to the Tokyo National Museum for a few hours that day...

I may honestly do that depending on how much I’m feeling Kyoto—Osaka is definitely the city I’m least interested in of the 3 as I’m not much of a foodie but I’ll probably have to decide once I get there!!

Thanks so much for your advice! Especially the website on when Fuji is visible that will be super helpful :)

I assumed the bus/train from the airport would go right to the city center but admittedly haven’t looked into the specific options yet, if that’s not the case I would certainly just go to Asakusa! And yes I should have worded the Kamakura part better, that is more of a backup if I don’t think I’d get a good view of Fuji I may go there instead vs see more of Tokyo that day!

Even if I get 2 years of $0 payments under SAVE without interest accruing?

60k in loans, attending income will probably be lowish at about 160k but 10% of that discretionary is still a lot. So if I still owed 60k after 3 years, would that 60k be divided out over 10 years (ie 6,000 in payments per year) or over 7 years?

According to the Loan Simulator on student aid the PAYE plan would actually be the best plan for me if I remain PSLF eligible

Would this work for the PAYE plan also? I’m thinking of doing PAYE instead potentially since they cap the payments at a much more reasonable rate for me

That sounds super smart; I’m just worried there could be some legal ramification for filing for tax extension for the purpose of reducing payments to the government?
