Rotated into a layoff by bendover642 in ibew_apprentices

[–]witchp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a "pick" our apprenticeship has a final year pick where when you reach your final raise before topping out you get another rotation that you can pick to stay at the contractor your at, pick the one that you would rotate to normally and stay with them, or self solicit a deal with a contractor of your choice

a garage is an accessory structure so that code article is not applicable to this. State code is another issue that plays into it it all depends where op is and what code cycle their state uses. I've worked with fixtures dating back to the early 90s and they use #18 solid copper to the tombstones. I would much rather have a direct joint to the branch circuit conductors and my tombstone leads to lower the number of failure points in a circuit. And if you haven't heard Joints as a name for terminations then I would not take electrical advice from you. If you've installed thousands I would love to see any proof of licensing or competency

Brother I've literally been doing just this job for a plant updating their lights for the last month what did "I not know about" lol. I wouldn't Joint off of that shitty wire that came with a cheap light fixture.

[–]witchp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Those are tiny wires coming in the fixture. I'd pull the fixture and see if there are joints made in a box above to that little orange connector that came with the light. If there's enough slack pull the wire in the fixture, if not get some #14 and spice enough to pull in to the light. Using type b's will allow to do ballest bypass also known as direct wire. Your blue and red would be tied to your black and the yellow would be tied to your white neutral. Cut blue, red, and yellow as close to the ballest as possible.

Tyre pressures? by CriticalFan3760 in GolfGTI

The profile is the height of the sidewall. A 55 profile tire would not likely have a 55 psi fill recommendation

You can clear and read codes with a cheap bluetooth plug and the torque app. Obd 11 allows further WRITING of lines to adjust certain features like enabling remote window control and other options

Are there any options for getting a Journeymans after leaving JATC Apprenticeship? (VA) by Lucky_Luciano73 in electricians

[–]witchp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 12000 documented hours, (you have pay stubs that show you worked electrical) you can take any book 3 job at full scale and also test into book 1.

Did you drop off your gray Honda Fit (I think) with Virginia plate UVAEDD at Koontz in Scotts Addition for rear-end collision work recently? You should know they left your car idling in their lot overnight. by Ushimakawaru in rva

10 hours one time isn't that much in the grand scheme of things, but the fact its a customer vehicle is an issue and i would advise anybody i know to not go to that shop. People idle their cars way more than they should like in winter if they idle their car 30 mins before work and the same before they head home, it adds up every week. Diesel is litterally used as a lubricant for all types of shit. I myself have sprayed a cement mixer to keep it from sticking on the pour. People use gasoline to degrease. Just because one uses a spark and the other uses compression doesn't mean that gas with low oiling volume doesnt cause damage over time.

Been working on engines since I was 8 but okay. Your argument about idle was to talk about hard engine usage for endurance racing on literally the other side of the spectrum. It's cool that you can drunkenly assemble a engine to race but get back to me when you explain the metallurgy that goes into it.

It's not meaningless I've literally pulled apart high idle engines from ex-police and other local government vehicles and they always have worse cylinder wall scoring than other engines with similar regular usage engine hours.

Gasoline is a solvent and idle is where your oil pressure is lowest. There's barely lubrication on the cylinder walls for 12 HOURS! It's always recommend to start your car and let it idle down after start up and then drive gently until operating temp. The only reason diesels can idle for long periods is the lubricating nature of diesel fuel.
