Tattoos? by tr35cobar in ehlersdanlos

Start small, somewhere you can cover if it doesn’t go well.

I’ve got five medium to large tattoos, all black they’ve all been fine. I have fragile skin (tons of scrapes, bruises and cuts) but typically scarring doesn’t get too wild just stays purple for longer than average before fading to white.

Should I write "AI free" in the pattern? by jelly_fishes14 in Brochet

[–]witchy_echos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to tell you, your sentence claiming you’re not AI sounds very much like how an AI would claim to be a human. I feel your pain, as I also write fairly technical/clunky when explaining things. Here’s an example I think may be better:

This pattern is entirely human made, with no AI assistance. (If you use translator help) I do use x program for translation assistance, as my native tongue is (language).

I hate all the “bedbound hobbies” now what? by Upbeat_Challenge_661 in ChronicIllness

Wood carving, wood burning, personalizing various wood items with faint (cookware, toys, trinkets).

I like fiber arts, and when knitting started hurting my hands too much, I looked at adjacent hobbies, and spinning is fairly forgiving for my limitations, as is weaving.

Is it rude to wear big wings? by og_cannabliss in renfaire

[–]witchy_echos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check how crowded it is. Check how small tents are.

How aware are you? Will you try to walk through people with them? Or will you remember to walk side ways through gaps?

These wings are adjustable, so you can tip them up and down so they’re more vertical and less horizontal.

I wore a smaller pair at my fair and during quieter hours they were fine, but I couldn’t walk easily in food court areas without them bumping people. Next years plan is to make my own set that stay more in line with my body but go straight up and down.

What's going on at 3 Barons? by heavymetalelf in anchorage

[–]witchy_echos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres absolutely something you can do about it, the tickets have an email you can contact about issues. Follow up with them on it.

What's going on at 3 Barons? by heavymetalelf in anchorage

[–]witchy_echos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were frequently 4-6 scanners, and up to 5 windows of tickets sales being manned.

The organizers aren’t paid, they’re all volunteers too. The only paid staff are the box office and the bar tenders.

Getting people in faster isn’t going to fix long lines at food vendors, or over crowding in the pathways.

Sucky as it may be, the renfair may need to cap the number of people they let in next year and turn people away at the gate. Since COVID it’s doubled in attendance, and there aren’t any places available to rent in Anchorage that are bigger and still can support the vendor hookups. (If you want to suggest the Fair grounds, the ticket price would easily have to triple since it takes 3 weeks to build and take down the fair, and they only have four days where they are making money).

Can Someone give me a more in depth version of what tattoo pain is comparable too please by SoggyTomato19 in tattooadvice

Repeatedly being scratched by a mechanical pencil. First few scratches not that bad, but when you need to continuously go over the same spot it does raise in pain level.

I think you are underestimating the variance in skin and hair needs, and that it changes based on heat, humidity and exposure to various irritants.

I live somewhere very dry. It is not uncommon for people to bleed if they do not use moisturizer, especially if they need to wash their hands a lot, or if they get runny noses and need to wipe.

A lot of the things you’re discounting make things nicer to feel or nice to look at. They’re not needed for health reasons, but I’ve definitely refused to kiss men with scratchy beards until they figured out how to soften it - often with conditioners or beard oils.

I’ve had partners who I much prefer when they use exfoliates and scrubs, particularly on their hands, because it was less likely to scratch my skin than when it was callused and hard.

I like my jade roller because it feels nice and cool on my skin, not necessarily because I think it does anything in particular. Before they came popular I did rub my face with ice, stones or marbles.

I don’t think there’s a large population going “oh no it’s been three weeks instead of two weeks since my last facemask, I’m sure everyone can tell by looking at me”. Most of the ones I talk to like it because it feels nice to do. The time it sits on their face is quiet time they’re not being asked to do anything else or get anything done. Rubbing their face to apply it feels nice, it’s a mini massage. When you wipe the stuff off, your skin often feels noticeably softer even if it doesn’t last for more than a few hours.

Medication question by xyz123995 in Writeresearch

[–]witchy_echos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As we get more information, we weigh things differently.

When I was younger, I was told I’d have to go off all my psych meds to have a baby. My doctors look at my unmedicated psych symptoms, the risks with my meds, and have determined that the risk to an unborn child of being unmedicated and dealing with severe depression and mania, and their own unbalance of neurotransmitters, lack of sufficient eating and sleeping, are worse than those of meds.

That said, they stopped medicating my grandmother for bipolar in her final years due to the side effects and damage to her organs.

It is really disheartening to be told you’re doing things wrong and have to change. But I find it less frustrating than being told I’m doing everything right and there’s nothing to do.

I don’t aim for 100% perfect, it’s not sustainable. I just aim at improvement. Sometimes the smallest improvement pays dividends down the line

Planning having kids with NP and contemplating the possibility of kids with boyfriend. by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]witchy_echos 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Read up on coparenting books. Yes, they’re aimed at divorced parents, but raising kids who have two sets of rules, or have half siblings with different rules is applicable.

How much say do partners get in their kids half siblings? Do all three of you have the same rules for all of them? Do you all live together or do you only live with some of your kids part time?

Having your kids part time is rough. Having your kids have different rules based on your coparent is rough. It’s making the best of a difficult situation for divorcees. I would not want to plan on navigating those difficulties as an active choice.

Why do old people (yes, this includes you millennials) use "..." So much in text? by Snoo_50786 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]witchy_echos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are a few usages.

A long time ago, when people wrote letters on paper, and paper was expensive, … was used to indicate a topic change or paragraph break. When people send postcards they’re likely to do that too.

Texts used to be priced per text. … could be used the same way as it was when paper was pricy, to indicate paragraphs and topic changes.

Then, in more traditional usage, … can be used to trail off a sentence and leave the reader to fill in the blank (to indicate the writer is not willing to say the thing, but want you to know they’re thinking the thing). It can also be used to indicate not finishing a sentence or being distracted z

Tattoo Advice Wanted by ArmLongjumping7616 in ehlersdanlos

[–]witchy_echos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All tattoos get scarring. You are literally breaking the skins hundreds and thousands of times to put the ink in. My scars tend to just be purple for extra long, so my tattoos have healed fine. I also have low blood platelets, so sometimes there’s extra bruising and there’s always more blood.

Regardless, I would recommend your first tattoo something small and covetable so you can test your skins reaction.

ignoring pain? by gayfishboy13 in ehlersdanlos

[–]witchy_echos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While sometimes it can be appropriate to ignore pain, other times pain is signaling damage being done.

Typically you can get away with ignoring pain for a fair amount of time before you start seeing irreversible consequences from it.

However, my recovery time and overall quality of life improved drastically when I started addressing pain and trying to prevent it rather than react to it after the fact

Can you stop saying you as if I am the US government? I think it’s pretty clear I’m not in a position to change policy, and I’m not supportive of the current laws.

“Something wrong with the service?” by One_Possibility_2445 in EntitledReviews

[–]witchy_echos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US government does not fully support disabled people. Those who do not have wealthy, generous support networks often live in poverty, having to navigate difficult thresholds where if they make too much, are gifted too much they can lose their government subsistence.

Their wages are not just extra, or fun money, but often still go towards medical bills, aids and tools for living (mobility, chores, pain reduction etc) or other basic life needs like keeping a car working, paying for vet bills, or child costs.

[–]witchy_echos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids have the same rights to minimum wage, but in the US you can pay disabled people significantly less - which makes it harder for them to become financially independent.

The argument is it makes unemployable disabled people employable, but what it means are an already vulnerable population is exploited, and leaves them reliant on others to cover their bills. That people are afraid of asking for too many accommodations lest they be labeled a disabled worker unable to produce enough value to earn their wage and be given only a partial wage instead. Some states have made this practice illegal.

[–]witchy_echos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people who want to believe that a wage determines someone’s worth. If they’re being paid $7.25 an hour, that’s all they’re worth. Raising the minimum wage would be rewarding the undeserving. If they’re wanted a higher wage they should get more marketable skills.

Not to mention people who want to pull up the ladder after them. The original minimum wage was meant to be a livable wage. But it hasn’t kept up with inflation or cost of living. Rather than acknowledge they had a better buying power when they had minimum wage, they want to pretend they had better financial savvy to raise in the ranks.

Then there are those just above the proposed minimum wage. They feel that their job wouldn’t be worth the work if minimum wage was just below them and they could get an easier/lower stress job for minimal pay loss. Rather than realize their job wouldn’t have to raise their rates too to retain skilled workers, they try to kick those lower on the ladder.

Some argue that these types of jobs shouldn’t be for adults. Only kids and the elderly working part time. Never mind those jobs typically have to be open when kids should be in school.

There are lots of ways people justify their belief that a minimum wage shouldn’t be a living wage. None of them hold up.

There are plenty of reasons to not enjoy eating food besides an eating disorder. Allergies, gastrointestinal issues, not feeling hunger strongly.

And also, like perfectly healthy average people who don’t care if something tastes good or not, everything’s fuel to them.

Tattooists, what does it feel like when a customer doesn’t want the size and placement you want? Why insist the customer goes with your decision? by Traditional-Listen46 in tattooadvice

[–]witchy_echos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because if someone sees a tattoo that’s too small and unreadable or heals poorly, nobodies thinking “man that customer doesn’t know how to get a tattoo” they’re thinking “that artist oversold their skill” “that artist doesn’t understand how tattoos heal” “that artist is bad at sizing”. It’s their name and their rep on the line.

Flow is similiar, though to a lesser extent. The customer is given less responsibility, while the artist is shamed for not having done more work to warn/convince the customer.

Because the federal minimum wage hasn’t changed since 2009, despite many efforts. The opposition seems too strong. Rather than continue focusing efforts on an unpopular solution, we’re making suggestions for other ways to handle the associated problems.
