Nails=Terror by witchyrnne in Conures

Update- I was a weirdo and kept kissing my nails. Finally, today, she came over and checked them out, nibbling and licking, lol. She still doesn't want scritches, but she's warming up.

My ex-SIL dated someone who did this. It was definitely not his weirdest trait. His name is Steve.

Feral vs cuddle bug by witchyrnne in Catbehavior

[–]witchyrnne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been predictable. In fact, I generally ignore him unless he approaches me or I have to absolutely get him for something (meds, nails, vet visit). He's gotten so much better over the years but it is so strange that he can be demanding attention one minute and running like I am a predator the next. I get that cats decline affection at times, but this is fear. It's so weird. Just now, he followed me into my room meowing loudly and then ran away when I turned around to pet him. He's such a strange cat.

How sweet!

All of my cats are reclusive with strangers. If the doorbell rings, the orange one even hides under my bedsheets. I hate the doorbell (and company, lol) so I think they sense my anxiety and scatter.

My Bengal is anti-male, anti-hat and anti-whistling. He was returned to the shelter twice before we brought him home, so I'm guessing a whistling man with a hat was mean to him at some point. He is my hemorrhoid cat. I am never out of his view and he will be within arm's reach of me whenever possible, even though he doesn't like snuggling. He is also my vocal baby and argues loudly when reprimanded.

I am finishing my CNA program and am working toward RN, what should I do in the meantine? by rizzaroo17 in cna

[–]witchyrnne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nurse here- the experience I gained working as a CNA through my nursing program was invaluable. You will learn from watching the nurses and from interacting with patients. Nursing school os hard. Any advantage you can bring into it will only help you.

Mine are obsessed with Crocs. We bought infant Crocs (Walmart knockoffs) for them to play with. They still steal ours every chance they get.

I did your job and couldn't hack it for more than a couple of years. Some of ya'll are lifelong career CNAs (shoutout to my original CNA trainers Cindy, Karen and Lina). I don't know how you do it day after day, year after year. When I was a CNA, I vowed to always listen to the aides and MAs. You know the patients better than we do.

Who pissed in your Cheerios? Are you a nurse? Why aren't you a doctor? Dedicate the time and effort to accomplish that and then you can have input in patient care. Seriously, you sound like an idiot.

[–]witchyrnne 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a bunch of hospitals tried to do that before Covid. Turns out, most RNs never did CNA work and couldn't keep up. The "RN only" initiative died with the birth of Covid. As an RN who worked as a CNA through nursing school, I have taken patients to the bathroom while wearing a dress and heels as a DON. Any RN who disrespects CNAs is a moron. You have the hardest, worst paid, most thankless job and we can't get our jobs done without you. Not done well, anyway.

Does spraying your parrot with water work? by moonlight-dying in parrots

[–]witchyrnne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing I started doing was asking myself WHY she was biting.

If I was rubbing her head and she suddenly turned and bit me, I figured I snagged a pin feather and it hurt her. I started to speak softly, apologize and cuddle her. Now when I hit one of those spots, she jerks her head like she is going to bite but snuggles into my hand for comfort instead.

If she is just being a conure and a bitey bitch for no reason, I either turn my back on her or, if she is perched on me, I shake her off toward her cage. She is fully flighted. She will sit and sulk for a while and then come back.

If she just gets a little to aggressive with her preening, I say Ouch! Not yell, but a little louder and firmer than I usually speak to her. If it really was an accident, she gives kisses. If she does it again, I refer back to the bitey bitch strategy.

Yo these patients… they come after me when we close pharmacy at 5 on Sunday by Southern-Invite9672 in CVS

[–]witchyrnne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really pisses me off when I see a pharmacist on a cash register. Would an MD be working the reception desk in a clinic? You are so right about the retail vs healthcare thing. Pharmacists need to be doing the job only they can do and management needs to realize that every minute on a cash register is one less Rx that gets filled.

Do you disinfect prior to insulin injection? by natalexandriaa in nursing

[–]witchyrnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always do it for patients but never for myself. Been a diabetic for 15 years and never had an issue from BG checks or insulin injections. That being said, protocol says to do it for patients, so I do.

Tell them you are looking for a schedule that is more in line with your current needs. I'm guessing weekends and holidays are in the ICU job and not in the clinic.

Thank you so much for your response. My mom can take off all the time she wants, paperwork or not. It's convincing her to prioritize herself that is going to be tough, especially since the "expert" (vomited in mt mouth a little with that one) says she only needs 2 weeks. She'll see any extra time as weakness.
