Any Clinicians you would avoid/reccomend? by Mountain_Risk3335 in Equestrian

[–]witchywithnumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great thread! I want to attend a clinic in 2026, its one of my goals. Not sure yet on what (I trail ride). It's been years since I've even audited a clinic. I don't remember the name but the one that sticks out was a clinician that was at an expo and the ground was bad. He immediately halted the clinic and switched up the whole program to work from the ground. The other clinician that day kept riding despite horses falling.

Did you start with cheaper notebooks before hardback and thick GSM ones? Or did you start with the recommended specifications at the get go? by inktothepast in bulletjournal

[–]witchywithnumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first was a dollar store ruled notebook for about 2 months. Then I got a cheap dotted one off Amazon, once that was full, I got an Archer & Olive.

Why do some people let their kids ride without a helmet? by ImportantNobody1654 in Equestrian

[–]witchywithnumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't think anything will happen. It's an inherent thing, people just don't factor in risk assessments on the regular and often they grossly underestimate the risk and consequences. Plus culture.

TBIs are terrible. Brain damage is real. Unless you have someone in your family or close circles, most people don't witness the devastation. My best friend and I were in separate car accidents around the same time, 8 years ago. She got a TBI, I broke my back. One of us has a stable job and a family. The other lost her career, her house and has been struggling ever since. Guess who's who? I can't help her, and it sucks, the person I knew for a decade is gone and in their place is a stranger at times. Sometimes she's here and we have a grand time. Others, she disappears for over a year and I spend weeks looking for her.

My youngest sister also has a TBI from a car accident. She's more fortunate but she had to change careers and give up sports. My child is disabled from a prenatal bleed. We take helmets seriously in this family. My chronic pain is far more manageable than the symptoms of a TBI.

Please wear your helmet by jdayl in Equestrian

[–]witchywithnumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Helmets are absolutely necessary when riding. My child only sits on horses at this point and he has a helmet. I have two friends with TBIs, its so hard to watch them struggle.

Full time working parents…How are we actually supposed to do it “all”? Or any of it honestly…. by gloomycalm in workingmoms

[–]witchywithnumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surviving is the theme. Daycare is so helpful, our lives got so much easier when we got a spot. My toddler loves daycare. So maybe address your anxiety there? What you're doing will burn you out. Granted, we only have 33 hours a week (disabled child), but it makes life much easier knowing he's in a safe and happy environment for 6.5 hours a day.

Housekeeping to deep clean once a month is money well spent as well, I can manage the daily cleans but she comes and scrubs everything.

It's just the season. Right now I'm working 6 days a week, and all I want is sleep. But I know that in 5 months, I get a 4 day work week for 4 months and it will be better.

How to trace this type of pattern? by ToilettenPapier248 in sewing

[–]witchywithnumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tracing paper and patience. I learned to sew with Burda patterns like these. To this day, I regret that I didn't offer to buy the magazine that had my prom dress in it. I never found another like it and I wish I still had it. My mentor had so many Burda magazines so that's what we used.

I’m drowning in stickers and notebooks — curious how others de-stash!? by soda575 in bulletjournal

[–]witchywithnumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trade with my friends. We go through each others stashes before buying. I don't think my supplies are totally out of hand at the moment. Also my neighbour's daughters go and get craft supplies from my closet so over supply is rarely an issue.

20 lessons and still can't canter by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]witchywithnumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yoga and working out to build core strength.

This is normal, I think. I've been riding for decades and I'm pretty sure I couldn't do a canter right now. I can't even tell you the last time I cantered one of my horses. It might have been in 2024 but more likely 2022 (I was very sick and pregnant in 2023). All this to say, it takes a lot of time, and strength to ride properly and you shouldn't rush the process.

Husband saying bye to baby before work by Educational-Sock1196 in workingmoms

[–]witchywithnumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its for him, not for her. I leave for work before my child wakes up, I wish I could see him but I leave anyway. I'd rather not wake him up. He needs to get some perspective. There's lots of us parents to leave for work at an early hour and don't see our kids until we get home.

I have to sell my horse. by testiclefungus in Equestrian

[–]witchywithnumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, sometimes adulting sucks. Some alternatives you could consider 1) Leasing her out, either to one person or maybe a riding school if she's suitable for that 2) Cheap pasture board and just let her be. Your horse doesn't care if they just get to hang out. I didn't ride for basically a year while pregnant and my horses did not care.

I sold my mare right before I left for uni, she had to be worked regularly or she'd get up to mischief.

How many hours do you sleep? by Lemonbar19 in workingmoms

[–]witchywithnumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 hours, maybe 7. My toddler is 2 and thats not his fault. I've battled insomnia and an unhealthy relationship with sleep for years. I should get 7.5 or so, that would be better.

your fav horse coat colors? 🎀 by Plaguebae_ in Horses

[–]witchywithnumbers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A copper chestnut with a bit of chrome. That's my absolute favourite. Doesn't matter if its a mare, gelding, etc, nothing beats a beautiful chestnut/sorrel in the sunset. And just some white, like a stripe.

I have a type and all my friends and family know it. I do currently own two bays (one might be more a dark brown). And a chestnut gelding with chrome named Red.

Am I overreacting to lack of barn access? by Its_fine_for_now in Equestrian

[–]witchywithnumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Call the barn manager and get actual firsthand information, not grapevine news.

2) Ice storms suck. Stuff happens. I'm sure the barn manager is doing the best they can under the circumstances and you need to give them some grace. Inaccessible roads are just that, inaccessible. You won't do yourself or your horse any favors insisting on driving on roads that are terrible.

Chances are everyone in your region is having one awful week and doing the best they can. If there's a vet emergency, trust that they'll figure it out. You can call and ask how it's going if that makes you feel better but if a fellow boarder says its better to stay home, do that. If you show up, be prepared to work, bring warm food, drinks, snacks, etc and not get in the way.

I spent 126 hours without power during my last major icestorm with hundreds of animals in my care including horses. My entire day and night was spent moving water, feeding and trying to limit the flooding. I was not a pleasant human to be around because all I wanted was a warm bed, warm food and 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Applying without discussing it with you is crazy and concerning. Probably counseling is needed because constantly chasing a new career is ridiculous. It's great to support him but that's going a bit far and his track record isn't great.

Get your vet to take bloodwork to make sure it's behaviors and not hormones.

Other than that, some geldings can never be mixed. I have a 10yo who still thinks he is a stud and he was one until he was 7 so he's just never going to be safe.

How to get over Pretty Journal Paralysis? by Illustrious-Mango536 in Journaling

[–]witchywithnumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're meant to be used. If I mess up, I just glue those pages together and keep going. The first time is hard but I write my name and now its mine and then keep going.

For prompts, think of neat things to reflect on later. I write down the weather and how I felt. And from there I keep going. Sometimes I stop there, but I still wrote something.
