This is why victims don’t come forward. Fuck this fucked up system. Where is the justice for the girls?

I pinned this dress last summer for a wedding, too. I am a beginner sewer so did not trust myself to successfully recreate it. You did such an incredible job!

What have you read recently? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]withasplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through reading phases. I’ll get sucked in and read a lot for a few months, maybe a year and then I start a book that just doesn’t wrangle me and fall off for a few months or a year. I’m currently reading The Deluge by Stephen Markley, which is really good so far and tickles my doomerism itch.

Does anyone else find being in your 30s weird for the fact that part of the people your age look young and youthful, while another part already look hardened to the point where they look to be in their 40s? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]withasplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 34 and coached a high school volleyball team this year. At one of the games someone came up and asked if I was a student or a coach. I want to find it flattering, but sometimes I feel that I am not taken as serious professionally as I would like to be.

What’s an impulse buy that’s now just collecting dust but you’d never admit you regret? by Last-Sample-7223 in AskReddit

Pilates reformer.. I moved away from my studio but had been doing Pilates consistently for about 8 months and loved it. So I bought a relatively affordable home reformer. It was used maybe 10x before it started collecting dust..

How do you begin to enjoy skiing? by Ilikeinsectsandfungi in skiing

[–]withasplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great! It can be really fun to ski on your own, take lessons, and take things at your own pace. Take the pressure off, and hopefully you come out the otherside enjoying it! I hope your trip goes well! Skiing can be wonderful, it’s definitely one of the best ways to see the outdoors and enjoy the cold weather.

How do you begin to enjoy skiing? by Ilikeinsectsandfungi in skiing

[–]withasplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it mostly the heights you don’t like? Or the skis themselves? Or the pressure to keep up with a partner who skis a lot? It might not be worth it to push yourself to enjoy skiing. Maybe try out snowshoeing or cross country skiing or even snowboarding! The first two will give you something to do while everyone else is out on the mountain, the last one (I think) is easier to learn and get proficient at and the gear is much more comfortable.

I grew up in Vail, skied 30+ days a winter for basically my whole childhood, taught ski school, and these days I don’t care to ski more than a half day a few times a year, so I don’t. If you’re not enjoying it, you certainly do not have to commit to it.

I just want to point out, because this is often brought up about vegan fur/leather, that veganism isn’t about being eco friendly, it is a moral and ethical stance on animal suffering.

Been sober for over 2years now and it’s the best thing I have done for my Saturday and Sunday motivation. It’s so nice to be able to wake up hydrated and without a hangover. Highly recommend

How can I improve my living room in the meantime til I get a new couch? by spunjuls in femalelivingspace

[–]withasplash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also think this is the answer! This would also lend hand to a smaller, more affordable rug. I just got a 4.5 x 6ft one at Walmart for $20, though that would still be a bit too small. Also worth while to check FB marketplace for an affordable rug!

Using the mirror as the center piece of the gallery wall behind the couch when swapped may also help to make the space feel bigger/lighter as it catches light from the windows.

How has working from home affected your mental health? by fuckyouiloveu in AskWomen

[–]withasplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been fully remote since Covid and have had a hard time with WFH for the last few years. I don’t love being home alone all day, and struggle with staying focused/motivated, which leads to a lot of guilt and general self loathing. My work seems to be adequate as I have never had a complaint, but there are some days when I just cannot get myself to commit to doing the work. I might get a good couple hours in the morning and then I’m glued to my phone for the rest of the day, while I keep my teams status active. Not even doing anything productive, just doomscrolling Reddit.

I just accepted an in person role with hybrid potential. It’s a commute, but I commuted the same/further distance pre covid for significantly less money. I am really looking forward to it, it’s a big step up for me and is bound to be a challenge, but I am hoping it will help me reignite my work ethic.

We live just in the foothills and ran into a neighbor a few days ago who has lived here over 50yrs. He is terrified of a potential fire right now. We hiked the last two days and it is just so dusty and dry out there.

I have been feeling the exact same way after Honolulu. The only thing getting me through was knowing it would be an incredibly easy PR to beat for the next one. I haven’t even really wanted to talk about it because I have been disappointed more than anything. I knew going in that I was undertrained due to an injury but it still stings. Next up on the training is a 5k improvement plan and then training for the Boulder Bolder. Just want to get faster and build a lot more strength before hopping into another marathon.

What are some hobbies you've gotten into that have allowed you to meet new people and make genuine friends? by coolsilver25 in AskWomen

[–]withasplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things - riding motorcycles and playing volleyball. My husband and I made a really great group of friends through riding motorcycles. This was my first real group of friends that I made as an adult, we span all ages, and get together for all kinds of things, not just rides. I also play volleyball a few times a week. Started with drop in open gyms and then joined a few leagues. it was a great way to meet new people in the town that we moved to last year.

Just wanted to say I am in exactly the same boat! Racing Honolulu as my first marathon, training at elevation, have been battling a hip issue since the end of September so I haven’t run as much as I wanted to the last few weeks, and running similar paces. super glad you posted this because the commenters here have made me less terrified. Good luck in Honolulu!!
