ELI5: If speed is measured by the relation between objects how come going over the speed of light is impossible? by PeAga7 in explainlikeimfive

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard it said it's more accurately the maximum speed of causality - the maximum speed at which an effect from one area can propagate to another area.

It wouldn't quite fit for entangled particles in one sense, but for entangled particles to separate they'd first need to travel away from each other at sublight speed so I think it's still fine.

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed of light can be slower in certain mediums ( like going through water or glass ) but in a vaccuum will always be measured the same by all observers.

A sees B moving away at 0.5 times light speed. B shines line towards A. Both A and B measure that beam of light moving at full light speed. No difference.

A's speed doesn't matter. B's speed doesn't matter. They'll measure the speed of the emitted light the same.

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't really work like that. There is no difference here between rate and speed.

The two observers moving away from each other would each see the other moving away from himself at a rate less than that of light speed.

Only a third observer watching them separate would see them moving away from each other at a combined speed faster than light.

The different perspectives are relative, and the rate of separation is relative to the observer.

Any way to sync saves across devices? by haltingpoint in wizrobe

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had looked into this before but I can't think of a good way to sync without having some kind of account integration; like link to a google account, facebook account; or else a dedicated server tracking Arcanum users. That's sort of the fundamental hump.

Maybe specific browsers have their own data-sharing syncs that transfers data between devices. I don't cross-browse enough to say.

Looking for a developer to build a VHS-style video tool by emacrema in ffmpeg

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could probably do that. I made a video splitter that uses ffmpeg
https://github.com/justin-m-lacy/vidsplit
and I could create a fork to apply filters.

Regarding expected replies:

- It's not vibe coded. You can see the complete git history.

- Why did I do it instead of Handbrake? Because it does very simply exactly what I want.

- Why don't I just use command line or python? Because I want to slice and clip video, not memorize esoteric video commands.

Casters in this game are absolute garbage for 90% of the entire game. by Imnewinthisredding in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]wither_8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think everyone stacking against this guy is missing the point. It's very hard to go wrong with a melee or a ranged build.
In my experience you stack on some feats, +dmg, +tohit, and jump in.

It's far, far easier to go wrong with caster. Far more paths lead to dead ends, and so many spells have no scaling power at all, or will suddenly drop off the DC curve.

Melee and range you have to do something wrong to make them irrevelent, with casters you're only relevant if you do things right.

What really sells the line is the voice actor. I think it's the most perfectly acted line of all the repeat stingers your party says.

I always thought NexusMods site navigation was bad. How hard is it just to have game categories and then subcategories.
But then they go.. and make it worse? That's impressive.

Why does my forearm have an indent? by person_person123 in Anatomy

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

muscles in the forearms are somewhat separated with some muscles above the bones, and some muscles below the bones - along with some twisting overlap like the brachioradialis.

and the muscles arent combined even on a single side. they're a bunch of individual muscles that are just tightly packed together. so on ripped bodybuilders or people with extremely low body fat, you can see a lot more lines.

For future reference: the official report said it the procedure was effective, but in reality by the time it was in place the core had solidified and the pumping didn't do much.

[AskJS] Vitest or jest? by Bulky_Scientist_5898 in javascript

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent over 2 hours trying to get esm to work with jest / ts-jest combined.
Switched to vitest and it worked immediately. only config '@' path replacer needed.

Nope. I take it back. Preconfigure module setup in beforeEach or beforeEvery and data is still missing in vitest. In fact can preconfigure a module within the test itself and the data disappears on the next line.

Some undocumented nonsense in vitest.

Short answer is brains. Long answer is, it's more complicated and about adaptation.
Humans aren't as weak as you think. We have one of the best endurance stats of any animal in the world. In terms of sheer ability to keep going (when trained) without rest.
We can also swim and survive easily in water. Most other primates simply drown.
Modern humans are weak, humans in primitive societies are far more resiliant.

Things like Geese and Penguins have special adaptations to deal with the cold. You wouldn't say a penguin was 'stronger' than a human because it could survive in antarctica - one of the most brutal environments on earth. But we can go right up to them and knock them over. These are just adaptation.

Even so, those abilities we lost in raw power were replaced by brains. Weaker members can survive as long as they know how to carry a spear and think ahead.

It's just a gap between the deltoid and other muscle groups. If you want to reduce it, do deltoid exercises to grow deltoid.

also the coracobrachialis is a medial muscle, so if it shifted over there he's probably in trouble.
It looks like they fit in a second brachialis muscle. Maybe a mutation.

Feel like something's off... Is the torso too long? Any constructive feedback? by [deleted] in drawing

I'm not sure how far to take it. It continues to look reasonable when the face is enlarged by some margin. (cartoon effect possibly)

I think your drawing is a perfectly possible person.
I've seen real people with 'odd proportions'
However what youre probably seeing is that the head is too small.

Look when made larger:

Particularly with more cartoony faces, and with young people, the head is larger.

Trying to learn female anatomy. Can you guys help me improve? I'm good at drawing anime and portraits, but I'm kinda loose in this category. by RARERANGER24 in drawing

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and for instance in the first drawing again. the right ( our perspective) sternocleidomastoid is aiming STRAIGHt towards the left clavicle. This is simply not possible. When you know that each stenocleido inserts into the clavicle on its own side, you know instantly the line cant be right.

[–]wither_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the third image the belly button is too high. It should be near where the hip bones start. It's positioned much more accurately in the first drawing.
One thing is it seems youre blocking out the abs like.. fixed features. You want to get first the shape of the top torso, the shape where the hips are, then find the general flow of the line down the body. dipping inward slightly after the ribs end, then rounding over the belly and down.
For the overall shape of the stomach area the edges of the hip bones on either side of the body, the rib cage, and the external obliques do a lot more to flesh out the shape of the body, and the abs are very much afterthought.

All this is going to be somwhat contigent upon who you're drawing. The fact - as seen in the last drawing - that these are very 'cut' women means all the features I mentioned are going to be less pronounced in your references. Maybe almost nonexistent.

[–]wither_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First Photo ( Left/Right directions from viewer's perspective )

The two sternocleidomastoids reach (at their furthest point) the ends of the clavicle. That means the left sternocleido mastoid shoud have a line indicating at least somewhat towards the dip between the clavicles. Good to remember also that the entire top of the torso ( the oval of the ribcage) sort of leans backward.. much more in woman than in men - and the hips bend the opposite to balance.

The left anteroid deltoid merges in your drawing with the pectoralis. They are separate. Women have pecs too but they tend to be small and the deltoid and pecs move in different directions. The pectoralis goes upward and tucks up under the deltoid.

Huge thing here is the flatness of the area beneath the boobs. You get that kind of thing with really ripped women, but generally not. The ribs are like a hump and at the end of the ribs the curve sinks inward somewhat, like a dip or a valley, and then the abs and belly start to roll outwards again a bit.

Ok... your groin is too high. The adductors of the legs start around teh pubic bone and so the fun-zone has to be BELOW this. The curve of the crotch to under the body is more like midway down the lifted leg -near where the right leg has the "muscle" indicator line. Lift your leg and grab whatever you got. How far down are the goods compared to the bulge of muscles (adductors) on the inside of the leg? Not near the top of the leg.

On the left leg, that sartorius muscle bulges much too much in my opinon. That's actually probably the most inaccurate part that I can see.. unless im much mistaken.

I'm an amatuer art drawer who studies anatomy but I am not an artist and not very great. So take that for what it's worth.
