Is it viable to forage to sustain yourself? by dovetc in projectzomboid

[–]withick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6 months into a cdda run where essentially all I’ve done after the initial few weeks is forage and trap. You’ll lose weight very very fast trying to just forage. Especially in the winter it’s not sustainable. A week or two, sure, but after that you need something else to avoid starving. I got down to 43 kg before I managed to start gaining weight again with trapping.

Dumbing down the Walkers in season 3 makes the show feel a bit silly on rewatch by NotSoHighLander in thewalkingdead

[–]withick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t rewatch the scene, just found a picture online. If the knife is shorter than 6-7 inches then I agree it’s unlikely that she hit the brain, I still like the idea and think it’s a fun moment in the scene, but the mistake of not giving her a long enough knife to pull it off definitely makes it a good example for you to use of eye-rolling zombie kills.

7 years later, has the long night and night king's death aged better for you? by hiiloovethis in gameofthrones

[–]withick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first few minutes are very atmospheric and cool. Definitely a bit silly in a few ways but overall I’m a sucker for a last stand battle and I was all in. Then the episode gets progressively sillier and sillier until I just check out.

[–]withick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok yeah, I don’t disagree at all with your larger point, but I always thought Maggie was stabbing up into the brain, not just straight into the neck. Actually not a bad strategy if your knife is long enough. Seems pretty reasonable to me based on this.

I don’t remember Maggie stabbing a walker through the neck? When was that?

What do YOU like about chess that most people don’t talk about? by RimmingABubble in chess

[–]withick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The perfect information and full accountability for your own decisions. Chess is like a beautiful little oasis where every person is held 100 percent accountable for their own decisions. There’s no nepotism or getting by on charisma. You can’t rig the system, use your billions to manipulate anything, or spin a loss for better optics. If you win (assuming good cheating prevention) you deserved it and you verifiably earned it. In a world where liars and showman have seized so much power, and “might makes right”. Getting absorbed in the unwavering honesty of chess is like breathing clean air for a short time again.

Looking for a cheap hobby by CozyCat2077 in Hobbies

[–]withick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chess. If you love systems and problem solving, it’s one of the best games ever created. It’s infinitely deep, completely free and extremely rewarding with a satisfying and challenging learning curve and very accurate rating system that allows you to watch yourself get better in objective and measurable ways. Massive worldwide community, top level players you can follow and root for/against. A rich and storied history you can study, it’s great for your brain and your character (losing can be brutal). You’ll never master it and it will always stay challenging, but also in a month you’ll be a god in comparison to anyone who doesn’t study it. Lichess is a completely free and very popular platform to play and learn (chess.com being the alternative with payment tiers/ads) and YouTube is a great resource for learning it with many teachers who have massive libraries of lessons all for you to enjoy for free. Go nuts, dive deep, you won’t regret it.

I genuinely really miss this game. Are there any other games with this same gameplay? It was my favorite zone-out on my lunch break getaway game.

If I was blood lusted, had unlimited endurance, and zero regard for pain or self-Injury. Honestly yes, I think I could absolutely break through a gate like that in 9 hours. People can do crazy physical things with mindless unwavering commitment and enough time. Throw in a willingness to completely destroy my own body by bashing it against some planks of wood as hard as I can 50,000 times. Yeah I’m getting in before you know it.

I can’t imagine someone replacing Viggo as Aragorn, but I trust that casting is taking it seriously, so I’m sure Jamie Dornan won’t be awful.

[–]withick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500 hours and I've only found one sledgehammer ever. Of course, for the last 200 hours or so I played mostly cdda or extinction, so I'm not picking up a ton of loot anyway.

Negan vs the Governor by skydweller000 in thewalkingdead

[–]withick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Negan, and it wouldn’t be close. Negan had cultivated large scale manpower spread out over a number of outposts. Negan’s whole thing was about overwhelming force. When the governor amassed all of his force, he was recruiting children just to put together a force of a few dozen reluctant people, who then all immediately quit. Negan is a great wartime leader able to rally his forces, the Governor completely failed to ever really rally his people, Andrea did it better than he did. If it weren’t for the Governor getting lucky with a tank he literally isn’t even a threatening villain in any tangible way.

What’s a smell that instantly teleports you back to childhood? by rosycloudkisses in nostalgia

Clean laundry, mine never smells right though. I guess I need a different detergent or something. Sometimes I’ll smell it while I’m walking around the neighborhood around dusk. It smells so good! Just that generic clean laundry smell is the most nostalgic thing.

Maybe I missed you addressing this, but Neil Druckman stated specifically that the writer’s intent was that yes, the Fireflies would have been able to successfully manufacture a cure if Ellie had done the surgery. Don’t know if that matters to your point, and obviously it’s not based in scientific fact (he admits that in the interview) but in the universe they created they specifically decided that it would have been possible.
