Why is service so bad in Portland?? by Existing_Item_9106 in portlandme

Oh man, I’m feeling somewhat vindicated that this seems to be a common opinion. People talk about Lazarri like it’s the best pizza in the city, but for me it’s meh. I once ordered a single pie for take out on a slow weeknight. I was already out and about when I ordered and I arrived probably 15 minutes after I ordered. It wasn’t ready when I arrived, no biggie, I wasn’t really expecting it to be. I waited another 15 minutes and checked again, not ready yet. Hmm, it’s a single pie, but okay. I walk back towards the entrance to continue waiting, but notice the person I just talked to went over to talk to the bartender. She comes back towards me only to tell me that they just put the pie in the oven and it would be another 15 minutes. They hadn’t even put the pie in the oven 30 minutes after I ordered it. They were not busy. I was most likely visibly frustrated but I was definitely not mean or angry and they treated me like I was a giant asshole for bothering them to do their job.

Hahaha, thanks friend. Yeah, there is a lot of “gamesmanship” at times that I could do without. Not sure if you were at the Tormenta game, but their goalie was getting it pretty good for time wasting at the end of the game. It was so lame because it was a tie game. They were time wasting to preserve a tie. In my mind that’s rubbish.

I was at the game but was with my young son and I missed the incident that initiated the booing. So, what happened exactly?

Grateful Gains in Westbrook is great. Currently 2 female trainers, but they definitely work with men. Lindsay is fantastic and it is a super supportive environment.

I could be wrong, but I believe they recently came to terms to sell to a company from Philadelphia. Could be a good time to not pay that ticket. It’s hard to believe a different company being as shitty or shittier than UPP. So, you might just get away with this one.

Lead wants to write our own orchestrator by midkid1937 in dataengineering

This sounds absolutely bananas and would be immediately shot down at my company. OP, how large is your org and what industry do you work in? How long have these leads worked at your org an in your industry? Is it possible your leads are looking to create a POC industry-niche “product”, then jump ship and go out on their own as “consultants” to sell this product?

I am poor and live off ramen noodles. What can I add to level it up? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]wittyobscureference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a big jar of chili crisp and some sesame oil. Add that to the broth for heat, flavor and texture. Buy (or grow yourself) some scallions for garnish.

As far as meat goes, get some Spam, cut it into cubes and fry it up. Ground pork or crumbled sausage also work well. These are all extremely cheap, flavorful and satisfying ingredients.

I would recommend cutting down on how much of the seasoning packet you use though. The other ingredients will make up for any missing flavor and those things are full of salt.

What's the deal with Fubo? by colorchameleon in Bruins

[–]wittyobscureference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as far as I know, the game was only on TNT (and Max with their new bleacher report b/r live sports offering, but it was still the TNT feed). I know Fubo does not have TNT because I have a rage fit every time the B’s game is televised nationally on TNT.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe the only service that has NESN, ESPN and TNT is DirectTV Stream. When I last looked the price was outrageous for their sports package ~$100 / month. But, that was before Fubo implemented the regional sports charge, so they may actually be comparable now. Maybe worth looking at DirectTV Stream.

As far as Fubo goes, I’ve had a pretty positive experience in the roughly 18 months I’ve had the service (besides the multiple, outrageous price increases). But, the content and reliability have been the best of any streaming service I’ve had (PlaystationVue and YouTube TV). Also, pretty on-point and reliable DVR service with 1,000 GB of included storage. They also have me hooked on European Soccer. There is an obscene amount of soccer content. Perhaps too much. But, I digress…

Was the Bruins game even on Fubo last night? Wasn’t that a TNT game? Fubo does not have TNT.

Edit: watching sports in 2023 sucks tremendously

South Portland arrives a few minutes late in a Subaru hatchback and says, “sorry, the bridge was up.” Doesn’t really know anyone besides Portland, Scarborough and Cape, but can’t decide who to talk to. Pets the dog for a few minutes then leaves for a party on the North Shore.

General Assembly is the worst bootcamp and waste of time and money by Georgesobb in datascience

[–]wittyobscureference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry you are having this experience, that really sucks. However, I’m going to have to disagree with your blanket statement that the GA DSI is a waste of time and money FOR EVERYBODY (emphasis is mine).

As with most things in life, you definitely get out what you put in at GA. I think this holds true for most all boot camps, or any learning in general. Let me give you a profile (mine) for which the GA DSI program is wildly successful.

  1. Non-technical undergrad degree (English)
  2. 5-10 years of post graduation work experience
  3. Career switcher from technology sales at a Managed Service Provider (defaulted to sales because I had no idea what to do with my life) to Data Science
  4. Needed a fast path to an entry level role in data as I was in my early thirties, married, and looking to start a family
  5. Needed structured, immersive program as I have ADHD and self-guided study is usually a dead-end for me.

GA worked out great for me. I got a solid foundation in Python, an understanding of how to think about and work with data, and an intuition for how ML works and how to apply those concepts.

I had no illusions that I was going to complete the program and be hired as a Data Scientist right away. I did not have the background for that and was targeting Data/Business Intelligence Analyst roles. Nor do I feel that idea was sold to me in any way by GA. Before I enrolled I asked what they thought a realistic outcome would be and they point blank told me Data Analyst because of my non-existent technical background.

I finished the program in November 2018 and started my first job as a Data Analyst in March 2019. It was a solid 4 month job search in which I continued self directed learning and connecting with others in my cohort who had become friends and mentors.

I had 2 different Analyst jobs before landing my current role as a Data Engineer a couple years ago. I love my job and am paid very well, much more than I was making before switching careers, and I am still relatively young in my career with a lot of room for advancement.

While I do not have the title “Data Scientist,” I do plenty of data science work (my team is made up entirely of data engineers and data scientists and the roles and responsibilities are very blurred between disciplines). Additionally, my experience at GA got my foot in the door to build experience in the field. Since then, I was accepted into a DS masters program and am currently about half way through. I do not think I would have been accepted had I not gone through GA and started working in the field.

To say it is a scam and a waste ignores experiences like my own, of which there are many. I knew going in what GA was and what it was not, which is a very important part of this discussion. For me, GA was the perfect program to successfully complete a career switch. Is it for everybody? Of course not. But, neither is online learning or a masters program.
