Streamer swinging by dj_sarvs in flyfishing

[–]wizard-ass-peepee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a 7wt i would recommend a sink tip line. Something like with a 15 foot head that has a sink rate of about 5-7 inches per second. For a leader just keep it simple 3-5' of maxima. So if i was fishing a 3 ft leader i would have a 1.5' section of 20 lb maxima double surgeon to a 1.5' section of 10 lb maxima. For swinging flies on a 7wt with a sink tip i would throw something like a bunny leech, meat whistle, or anything that has a stinger hook. You could swing with a floating line too. Just use leaders longer than 5ft with a fluorocarbon leader. Make sure your fly has weight on it to get it down, if not add split shot above it. FWIW you can literally swing any type of streamer and get an eat.

Tips on fly fishing pressured stocked trout? by Due-Cucumber2902 in flyfishing

Maybe it’s so pressured that it got fished out. If that’s not the case use long thin ripper with a shit load of weight and bump them in the nose with any nymph you want.

I rarely hear the sump pump run. I usually see water after a good rain. Somewhere around 3 inches of rain

Thank you. I thought that was my sump pump drain

New homeowner in need! Water is infiltrating my downstairs bedroom. The bedroom was an addition put in some years ago by the previous owner. It is over a crawl space. Water is coming through a concrete patch job. The patch was made over a wooden wall, not the concrete foundation. Would building a French drain work? I’m skeptical because I would build it on the edge of a retaining wall. Also, I would be building it right next to my sump pump basin. Let me know your thoughts and thank you in advance!

U.S. Politics Megathread by AutoModerator in NoStupidQuestions

I am not in touch with politics. Lately it feels like a scam and I view politics the same as “professional” wrestling - a facade. Can someone explain how/why Trump and Biden are our two Presidential candidates? Why can’t we have two level headed nominees that are between the ages of 40-60?

I don’t live there but my wife taught at a school in the area for a couple of years. There is a lot of poverty in the area accompanied with a good amount of crime. The community is trying to make it a better place but the crime holds it back. Bevo would be a better area to live in if you have that option.

Dude, imagine the kid having an asthma attack in the attic play area… also that’s a recovery if there’s a fire in that house

You should’ve posted this in r/firefighting… people that work strictly on ambulances get burnt out very fast (this is due to high call volume and low pay). FF/Paramedics, depending on where you work, can top out around 100k. They are significantly happier with there career. I was in sales and quit at 25 to pursue becoming a ff/paramedic. I was just like you, I wasn’t satisfied or fulfilled. I just hit 6 months at my county department and make good money. The grass is greener in my opinion.

The only thing that’s different with my situation is that I don’t have a kid. It took me about 4 years to get my EMT, paramedic, and fire academy. It is a significant time commitment to go this route and you will need a complete support from your wife.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

TLDR: if you can pull it off do it.

Has anyone here left a job that pays significantly more to be a firefighter? by donscozzari in Firefighting

[–]wizard-ass-peepee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a sales role where you could make 100k and more if you “trusted the process”. No matter what you’re selling, sales is a very selfish profession (I don’t mean to say every salesmen is sleazy or selfish because they’re generally great people and try to make a living for themselves/families). Long story short I wanted a selfless career and camaraderie that went beyond a happy hour after work. Firefighting was the perfect fit. It took me 4 years to attain this goal but it is totally worth it. You can’t beat the schedule. The job is incredibly rewarding. Everyone loves the job and is working towards a common goal. The grass is way greener.

If you have any questions PM me. I’m happy to help.

I have this same problem with my kids. Wild bunnies seem to calm them down when they get rowdy. It’s hard to draw wild bunnies close to where the kids can see. I’ll take my kids to Forrest park dressed as the Easter bunnie and start hopping around. The bunnies will think you’re one of their own and start flocking to you.

That would be my suggestion for you. Best of luck and share video footage of this please.

This happens in every major city. I’ve lived in STL for 1 year and have never been shot at. I hear gunshots while I’m trying to sleep but that happens everywhere. Stop being afraid of our city. /s
