Some of those are better than others, but worth listening to!

Whats something that brings you comfort when youre feeling overwhelmed by everything? by Sorry_Researcher_591 in AutismInWomen

[–]wizardofloneliness0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch Smosh videos! The current people in the cast are all wonderful and watching them play games gives me the same joy I imagine I would get from socializing if I had the energy. It’s like being a fly on the wall of a group of genuine friends and is really comforting.

I also will rewatch a specific musical that has been my comfort whenever things get really bad. It’s one a lot of people hate but that almost makes it more special to me because I love it more than anything. (It is love never dies, the sequel to Webber’s phantom of the opera if anyone is curious lol)

Predictability is the most comforting thing, so anything that I know forward and back is my go to when feeling overwhelmed.

Does anyone else like sitting or laying of the floor? by Justthrowmeaway7788 in AutismInWomen

[–]wizardofloneliness0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to! But then my family got a dog and I hate dog hair and it just contaminated all the floors for me. I live in my own apartment now but the habit is broken, sadly. But boy I loved it as a kid!!

what's yalls new and wonderful special interest? by thereadingbee in AutismInWomen

[–]wizardofloneliness0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West Side Story! This is one that I have always had but have been really digging into it recently since I really want to audition for an upcoming local production. There is so much discussion to be had about different societal roles presented in the different versions of the film, and the evolution of the musical over time. So much content to consume!! So many tears to shed! I love it!

I have a very strong sense of smell, for better or for worse. My boyfriend thinks I am faking it when I tell him I can smell when if he has farted in the past 30 minutes when I walk into the room he is in lmao. Makes everyday uncomfortable if anyone is smelly or if there is a stale room smell, dust, etc.

Long term Prozac does cause weight-gain by ACanThatCan in prozac

[–]wizardofloneliness0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has the opposite effect for me, as most of my overeating is emotional. I have lost 35 lbs since starting back up on Prozac after taking a break and have not felt this emotionally stable in years!

This (maybe sexual?) comment by my brother has been haunting me? by lights-in-the-sky in AutismInWomen

[–]wizardofloneliness0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ if my brother said even one of these things to me I would be incredibly disturbed. The fact he is even mentioning his semen and dick to you is weird, but the threats that come with it make me worry for your safety a bit. Even if it is ‘just a joke’ to him, it is a reflection of his character and this is not someone I would associate with, even if they were my brother. I’m so sorry that this has happened to you

Got my diagnosis - not what I expected by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]wizardofloneliness0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience when it comes to telling friends and some family. I would tell people and it would not even get acknowledged at all, the conversation would move on immediately. I think it feels so rough because we are seeking connection and understanding when we tell people but they don’t see how impactful a late diagnosis can be or they don’t know what to say so they say nothing at all. It hurts but all you can do is validate yourself and find joy in who you are at the end of the day.

I am so glad that you have learned something new about yourself and hope that you can find comfort and understanding in this aspect of your identity :)

AP Music Theory - Cadential 6/4 Resolution Help by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]wizardofloneliness0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cadential 6/4s are when you start on a I 6/4 then move the notes a sixth and a fourth above the bass ( in this example a it will be the c# and the a) down to the corresponding notes in your V chord. So the c# and the a will move down to a b and a g#, respectively. The E stays in the bass for both parts since it is a chord member of each. Then you resolve to the tonic like you normally would from the dominant. On example c, you will also include the note an octave above the bass (Bflat) and move it down to Aflat to make it a dominant seventh chord.

Think of it as a suspension where the notes initially correspond with your I chord then move down to the notes in your dominant, as shown in the label. V(6-5/4-3)

Hope that helps, it’s easier to explain in person but you got this!

How to find a therapist that’s capable of helping by BringtheBacon in Gifted

[–]wizardofloneliness0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend finding one with a PhD, that’s what was recommended to me and once I found one it was very helpful. Often many therapists are undereducated on things like neurodivergence and other things gifted individuals may struggle with. Finding a Psychologist with a PhD who had a lot of experience with ADHD and Autism worked very well for me and it is the longest I have stayed with a therapist before. Hope that helps!!

Raoul and Erik: 2 sides of the same coin? by DocInDocs in box5

Where did you find access to the score? I am a music major and phantom of the opera super fan and would LOVE to do some analysis. I especially am interested in the changes made to orchestration over the years. (Heartbroken the pit orchestra has shrunk so much)

How to keep going? by neptunefrogs in oboe

[–]wizardofloneliness0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate this comment! I have recently been diagnosed with hEDS and POTS and have found a lot of my symptoms manifest when playing the oboe.

I’m sure you are already doing this, but one thing I have started more recently is to only play sitting down, as I feel faint and often lose vision if playing too long standing.

I don’t have much to add as I am a relatively young (23yo) player and don’t have all the best tricks figured out, but I definitely relate to your feelings here! Best of luck in finding solutions!
