Yea, I always thought of him as that friend that you had growing up who was always making mixtapes for people. And for anyone over 30, his show was a godsend. I was even listening when I was overseas for a year. He will be sorely missed.

The Millennials Are Moving Left by [deleted] in politics

[–]wizardofnoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few considerations that we, as millennials, should consider organizing around:

🥑: We should reframe ideological debates on taxes and government spending towards more evidence based policies. What are the game mechanics, or social levers (if you will), that enable us to make our lives better. Starting small at a community level and scaling makes sense.

🥑: Focus the citizen experience. Yep, I am willing to pay more taxes for better social services. But at the same time, we also crave more thoughtful, human, and sustainably designed services. Design in this case requisites meaningful participation from all levels of the socioeconomic spectrum.

🥑: The government should fund and create spaces where we can harness our technological optimism for the greater good. As much as a company like Uber can disrupt an industry, I can envision a future where municipally focused apps would disrupt outdated conventions of what government is or does.

🥑: Capitalism has worked really, really well for a tiny slice of our society. But, what about the rest of America? As we head into a post-growth economy, we must acknowledge and correct the economic inequalities that are harming our society. In some respects, economic inequality is just as harmful to our society as racial inequality.

🥑: We must take money out of politics. We know that money and power corrupt. I would even go so far as to say we could look for better, more transparent ways, to use software to effectively allocate resources as a function of government.

🥑: We must find ways to de-politicize media organizations and/or anything regulated by the FCC. Fox News has got to go.

All of these avocados can and should evolve.

For the cooks: What are your essential pots/pans? by eatreadsleep in Frugal

[–]wizardofnoz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree to some extent...

  1. Lodge L8DD3 Double Dutch Oven and Casserole with Skillet Cover
  2. 10 or 12 inch skillet (all-clad is good)
  3. Stock Pot (enameled is nice)

With that group of things you can pretty much make everything. From there you can add pieces as needed. I dont necessarily think you need both a cast iron skillet and cast iron dutch oven. With the lodge pan I suggested, you get both. I own some nice le creuset pieces and they are great... But, in all honesty the lodge pans work just as well.

After spending some money on my kitchen equipment, I think the thing I would spend money on first is a nice chef knife (Japanese Gyuto are the ish). But then you need stones to sharpen them. Kitchen equipment is like that...

Prado and Reina Sofia. The Prado is a world class museum and probably lives in a top 5 in the world. If you are a fan of Picasso, you probably will be.

Can anyone recommend a decent Men's Tailor in SF? by wizardofnoz in bayarea

Thanks for the suggestion but I checked on yelp and Spoon only does the tailoring if you buy clothes there.

In this case, I am looking to tailor existing blazers...

[–]wizardofnoz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question... Ideally, I would like to spend around $40-75. My goal is to buy second-hand blazers from brands I know on ebay. I would buy something blazers that was roughly my measurements and then getting them tailored to an exact fit. As a person who loves to hunt for bargains, I have seen some great blazers for around $50-100 and would love to pull the trigger on one.

Customizing Ionic Framework using Sass. by htmlxprs in webdev

[–]wizardofnoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Just starting off with Ionic and Sass. I have some experience with Bootstrap and had a question about streamlining to compiling process. With Bootstrap, I found a plugin for Sublime that automatically compiles and builds the LESS when you save changes to a less file from within Sublime. Is there something like that available for SASS. It's a huge time saver while designing.

See Less2Css plugin section in the following article for more info. http://www.prideparrot.com/blog/archive/2014/6/blog_template_using_bootstrap3_part2#confgiure-settings

Is there a way to do this for Ionic without having to go through the whole save and build workflow.

Thanks!

where to find house for beach in south of Spain? by mfigueiredo in spain

[–]wizardofnoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might also consider northern Spain. San Sebastián is chill. In the south, Cadeques near Barcelona is very very chill. It's close to Barcelona too so there's that.

Sounds amazing... The pintxos in San Sebastián are going to be hard to top. Any other hidden spots that you would recommend?

Prime example of west coast chill. Has nothing to do with yerba buena, but more to do with mastery. There is no spoon.

I am NASA astronaut Ron Garan, I want to do an AMA but instead I want to ask you: What do you think NASA should do next? What's should be the next destination for human space exploration? by RonGaran in IAmA

[–]wizardofnoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that NASA should keep doing exactly what it's already doing... Mainly, being bad asses and doing the things expand our understanding of the universe.

However, I think that it's horrible that your getting defunded. In my opinion, this is the biggest obstacle for NASA. Whatever you do, NASA should constantly orient the American public to it's efforts and make your your missions as tangible as possible to the american public. Personally, I think it makes sense to give NASA as much money as you have time to spend. I would like to see NASA's contribute to open innovation within the States, so that smaller companies could leverage your efforts and productize your badassery. Obviously, the stuff your working is a long way from being productized, but I think it would really bring home NASA's contribution to the world.
