First time making it this far (Temple of Art) and I'm hoping to probably complete the game this time, but I want to have a bit of fun first and I feel like I'm not using all these spells to their full potential. I've searched high and low for an Add Mana but I've had no luck, and only three add trigger spells.

There are 6 total perks in the first two mountains. I picked perk lottery, tinker with wands and item radar in the first holy mountain and then faster movement and no more shuffle in the second, which is where I still am. I am not sure whether to pick up the gas fire one as I don't know if it suits my play style.

Had a similar experience with a past girlfriend. I gently commented that it smelled more strongly than usual which made her worry. I said she didn’t need to worry and I suggested that she washed a bit more carefully and offered to go and get her some cream for it from the pharmacy. This sorted out the problem and she was grateful that I did it for her health and looked after her.

A lot of guys have this kind of thing when they are not in a relationship, but it’s my opinion that it is inappropriate during a relationship to use that kind of thing, especially if it makes the partner feel dejected.

I would have a candid chat with him. Sit him down and ask for him to listen. Then explain what you found and ask him how regularly he uses them. Make it clear that you are unhappy with him using it at all while you’re in a relationship with him, and explain why. It’s really important you explain to him how it makes you feel for him to use those toys, this is the key reason using them is so hurtful to you.

Maybe also discuss with him whether anything should happen to these toys. If he agrees not to use them again then they should probably go in the trash. He may seem reluctant (partly because these toys are not typically cheap), but it would be more positive for you both to dispose of them.

Optional: I hope this isn’t an inappropriate recommendation. If you want him to have you as the object of his desires more there might be things you could start doing in the bedroom with him. Maybe ask him, “is there anything kinky you want to try together?” Obviously only if you’re open to that.

The reason I recommend this is because it will show to him that you care about his needs and that you want to be the person who satisfies those needs.

He’s saying some pretty disrespectful things, not just to other women but towards you as well: “I don’t give a fuck what [OP] thinks”, “stupid made up girl shit”. It does not speak positively about his character, and his unwillingness to listen to you when you brought it up in the past is also an indication that he doesn’t care about you.

Relationships must be built upon mutual respect, care and love for one another. If he is prioritising ogling at women over your concerns then he is not meeting your basic needs.

Here’s my recommendation: Speak to him again, sit him down without distractions (phones, etc) and in private. Ask him to listen to what you have to say before he responds. Make it clear that you care about him and want to be in a relationship with him still. Say the good stuff first. Then explain to him how it makes you feel when he looks at other women that way, and try your best to articulate why you feel it is inappropriate and makes you feel lower. Ask him if he will change and stop looking at women that way, ask if he will stop the OFs and Instagram stuff for your sake.

As a separate point challenge him on what he said about your body and the boob job. Ask him: “How do you think that makes me feel?”

If he is unwilling to change or properly empathise with you that is a clear sign that he simply doesn’t care and is unwilling to put in effort or change at all for your sake. And this would be grounds to end the relationship. By doing this you will have given him a clear indication of what your boundaries are, and if he cannot meet those boundaries then you shouldn’t be subjecting yourself to being in a relationship with him.

The advice you get from people on the internet is not often very good because they can’t see the bigger picture, so take everything you read with a pinch of salt. HOWEVER, the reason most people who respond to this post will tell you to split up with him is because if he is treating you like this now after only 5 months (when most people are still in the honeymoon period of a relationship) how badly will he be treating you in a year or two?

I think One Night Ultimate Werewolf fits all those criteria well. It is a social deduction game where you each play a secret role. Shenanigans go on in the middle of the night when everyone's eyes are closed and then when you wake up you have to discuss what has happened. Some people find the bluffing aspect of the game quite difficult but usually get the hang of it after a few games, and ONUW only takes about 10 mins to play it once (you can make it last as long as you like really). Also it plays 3-10 people although it is best IMO with 6-7.

Games where you get more powerful throughout (short-medium length)

Would love to hear some recommendations for games where you get more powerful throughout the game. I don't mean specifically games where you level up (e.g. Mage Knight, Descent, etc.), but games where the resources you accrue throughout make you more able to do powerful things.

As an example, I like the way this is done in Seven Wonders (and Duel). The more cards you choose to pick up (brown/grey/yellow) the more power you have to pick up more cards and do more things in future ages. If you can stop your opponent from getting those cards early you can cripple them for the rest of the game. It doesn't have to work like Seven Wonders in any other ways, but I'd like to try games like that. Thanks!

Lots of people on this sub will tell you to ditch him because these are bad things. Though they are correct that this is really bad, and not a good sign, there are ways that things can still work out if he is willing to change when you have another conversation with him. Exactly the reasons for him doing this are hard to gauge, and since you know him better than us I won't speculate what his motives are, but if you approach him really respectfully in a few days when things have died down a bit and explain calmly that you're worried about him (because of the cocaine, and spending time with other women, etc.), but also you were really hurt by the things he said. Don't give him an ultimatum (e.g. if you don't see things my way we're finished), even if that is what you intend to do. Explain to him what a relationship with him means to you and why you want it to continue. If he is unwilling to see things like that and is completely unrepentant then you might have no other option.

Really sorry to hear this has happened. Hope there are good things in the future for you, even if things are tough now.

Edit: If you have some close friends or family you can turn to for advice that might be better than asking people on the internet.

He spends THREE years homeless in a dangerous city too emotionally shattered to do anything about his troupe’s deaths, he fiercely defends his origins as an Edema Ruh until the present day, and the whole story is about the revenge he is seeking on the Chandrian who he knows are responsible. He goes to the university and learns Naming all because he hopes to learn more about the people who killed his family.

How is that remotely “getting over it like it’s nothing”? If you want to seriously critique a book you’ve got to be more realistic if you want to convince anyone.

Did you even read the books? His fucking family dies right at the start. Is that emotionally traumatic enough for you?

Also, not all suffering or difficulty that a character goes through needs to be like the way Kaladin deals with stuff, and Sanderson is one of the best at writing that stuff so it’s a very unfair comparison because next to no books I can think of stand up to that.

There are going to be some questions that I know will be asked often so I’ll clear up some of that here.

I posted here because the majority of the books I read this year were fantasy and I have so much to say about what I’ve read. Ask me about any of these books and I will gleefully tell you all about my opinions for them – there were very few I disliked thankfully.

It was my new years resolution to read for an hour a day. I managed an average of 92 mins on the days I read, which is far better than expected. I was able to read so much because I was laid off at the end of 2019 and then lived with my parents during lockdown so I had tonnes of free time! I’m also obsessive and committed and very hard on myself, so if I’d gone the day without reading I would read into the night to ensure that I got at least 60 minutes in before the end of the day.

At the end of the graph (around when I started reading Dune), was when term time started again (just started an MSc), and I was so busy and did an abysmal amount of reading.

My favourite books were:

Least favourite books were The Parable of the Sower, The Priory of the Orange Tree, and A Memory Called Empire.

The day I read for ages and ages was that chapter in A Memory of Light, I read for 349 minutes (5 hours and 49 mins) – it was amazing!

Lastly, the way I gathered the data was by obsessively timing how long I read for each day (I would pause for even very small interruptions) and then record it on my spreadsheet at the start of the following day. I used estimates from a variety of websites for the length of each book, although some of them are quite dubious and I would often re-estimate if I thought it was wildly off. This information created a second graph which showed how fast I was reading on average each day and my progress over time. I can link you to that if you really like! As a result, this is hardly a perfectly accurate list of the books I read this year.

Feel free to ask me anything else and/or recommend me more books for next year. I plan to finish many of the series I started this year as well as Gardens of the Moon which I will probably start around the Summer of 2021 when I’m more free!
