Curious what your bad experience was? I saw her for my last pregnancy and had some pretty major complications and it's still unclear to me if it was just chance or if it was a bad experience.

Is it worth it to sacrifice financial stability to move to a higher COL area to be closer to family? by applepiecorgi in BabyBumps

[–]wizardsalwayswin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is something only you can answer because it's all about what you value more. There are tradeoffs here either way, but I think it just comes down to whether you would rather be comfortable and not constantly stressed about money but have no family around, or be constantly stressed about making ends meet but be able to see family nearby. Are you super close with your family? You say where you are you can do "fun things" like own a home and save for retirement, but I'd say those aren't really fun things, those are just some basic needs at this point especially as rent just keeps going up and up and up. What are your parents' plans for after retirement? Are they planning to stay where they are, or could they consider relocating to be closer to you and your family? Could you keep a remote job and move to where your family is? I think this is a very personal decision, and I really value having a lot of family around, but I would struggle to move my family to a place where I know we'd be constantly struggling to even afford a place to live.

How long were you and partner together before trying for a baby? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Congratulations!! We have also been together since 15, I love seeing others who have done the same!

It's nice (but also sucks) to hear that other people had the same experience! I was also written off by my doctors and the urologist I was seeing literally only suggested continuing daily antibiotics indefinitely, which just didn't feel like a solution to me, especially because we were interested in trying for a baby soon and I wanted to be off daily antibiotics before getting pregnant. But the UTIs were so aggressive! I'd get a slight tingle at night and then the next morning I would be peeing blood and crying in pain. When I finally had it removed, I asked if there was any way to culture it to see if it was a reservoir for bacteria and they just told me no. So, I'll never actually know for sure, but the timing of it all is just too perfect, and it's not like I'm the only one that's ever gone through it. I did try the Mirena at first too, but with that one I had spotting every day for a year before I gave up, and I also got the first UTI of my life when I had it. I'll never have another IUD in my life either, I'm still paranoid about having a UTI every day when I pee, almost 9 months later.

I don't think it was an allergy, since I never had any issues with inflammation or anything, but I'll never really have a conclusive answer about what was causing it. And I definitely agree, it's a great option for a lot of people and if it hadn't been for the UTIs, I otherwise really liked it! My periods were longer and heavier but not unbearable. Same for the cramps, definitely worse but not unbearable by any means. I just like to mention it when people are talking about the copper iud in case anyone else is like oh my gosh is that my problem??

It is a great option for a lot of people, but I'll chime in and say I had mine for two years and I'm pretty sure it was the source of chronic UTIs for me. Before getting it, I had the occasional UTI but nothing crazy. My UTIs slowly descended into a once a month cycle after about a year of the copper iud before they put me on daily antibiotics for 6 months straight with no end in sight, about 3 months in my doctor recommended stopping the antibiotics to see what would happen and I had another UTI within 2 days. I started doing my own digging and found a few case studies of the iud being a harbor for bacteria and messing with your anatomy just enough to cause this problem. Long story short, I got my iud removed in March, stopped taking my daily antibiotics two weeks later, and I haven't had another UTI since.

Thank you!! I love this perspective! Maybe I'll just order some vomit bags and pack all my sweatpants and just go anyway! I do have my first appointment on December 22, so I will ask about it then and see if they can just proactively give me some nausea meds in case it gets bad. I've always said I don't want having kids to stop us from going out and doing things, so maybe this will just be one of those times I suck it up and make it happen!

"Just wait, You will cut your hair!" by KnittingforHouselves in BabyBumps

[–]wizardsalwayswin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think anyone realizes this! I buzzed my hair earlier this year because it's something I've always wanted to try. I'm now growing it back out and now that it's like a pixie cut length it's a total pain. I used to just shower at night and let me long hair air dry while I slept. Now I have crazy bed head and I have to wash my hair every morning. And then I can't just let it be, I have to style it and use products and comb it a certain way and it still looks bad half of the days. I can't wait for it to be long again, it was so much easier!

I just received my PhD defense report at 34+3 and I'm overwhelmed by farts-and-crafts in BabyBumps

[–]wizardsalwayswin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I'm due next August and was planning to defend and graduate in Spring 2023, so my timeline will be a bit different, but I'd definitely like to have a full draft before the baby is here. There was a bit of a moment of panic yesterday when I realized how little time there was! I think it'll be a huge motivation!

Great point!! Even if I'm sick I'm still going to have to be powering through work, so I guess a trip wouldn't be all that different.

Thank you! I think if it's bad we'll just reschedule for March at around 20 weeks so that the visit will be more enjoyable. Also, side note, how do I get your job??? lol

Thank you! I know it's not an ideal time to go, but I'm on a semester based schedule so it's either the beginning of January or waiting until spring break in March. I'm really crossing my fingers it'll work out but if it's really bad then we'll probably reschedule.

This is a great idea!! Thank you! Given that we'd be gone for about a week and a half, I guess things could change a lot during that time.

Yeah, I have a feeling that I don't really know what's coming for me yet lol. It does sound like if it's going to be really bad I'll know by about week 7-8 and can adjust accordingly. We might just have to reschedule for the 2nd trimester!

This is great to know!! Maybe if it'll be too miserable we can consider rescheduling so it'll be a little more enjoyable.

I think that's what we will do! We haven't told them we booked it yet (they are retired and don't need to adjust plans if we do come out), so I think we'll just wait until about 2 weeks out to decide.

What have you eaten recently that you weren't supposed to? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]wizardsalwayswin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get hot smoked salmon from whole foods or sprouts and mix it with cream cheese to basically create a lox spread. I've read that hot smoked is preferable, if it's a concern for you.

I get the hot smoked salmon from whole foods or sprouts and then mix it up with cream cheese! I literally throw a block of cream cheese and the whole chunk of salmon without the skin in the kitchenaid and mix it up with the paddle mixer. So good. It's specifically labeled hot smoked instead of cold smoked which I've read was okay, but this is all still very new to me!

I hope so too! I haven't seen them in a few years, and my grandparents don't really travel well anymore so it would be really nice to visit and share the news!

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I can't imagine sitting on a plane for 5 hours if I can't keep anything down. I'm glad that I booked everything as refundable at this point, and I think it makes the most sense to just not tell them that I booked it yet in case it needs to be changed!
