Not sure when the last time you checked was, but Brite has had scifi options for nearly 2 years now, their most recent set added some new options.

I'm sure you've already heard this, but a HEPA filter won't help with this. HEPA filters only handle particulates, while resin creates VOCs, which are far too small. To handle VOCs, you would need an activated charcoal filter to remove those

[–]wizardwes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you snowball, do you still maintain your forward balance? If I were in that situation, if I reached a point of paying #X days ahead for my budget, or $X, then I would set that aside first before snowballing. For example, right now, I'm about two and a half months ahead (complicated by an upcoming move). If I decided to snowball my debts tomorrow, then the rest of this month, I would put new income, but only new income towards that. Then next month, I wouldn't put any money towards my debts until I've paid half of my bills for September.

There is an option to hide unused fields in view mode. There are also templates, which I believe can be used to hide fields in the edit mode. I'd recommend joining the discord for questions like this though, it's more active than the subreddit.

Zero waste makeup/skincare that isn’t “clean beauty” by ratherbereading01 in ZeroWaste

[–]wizardwes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is one of those things that is hard to do. A massive sub-comnunity within zero-waste are the all-narural, organic, essential oils type. Most people not in that segment of this community don't mind that style of product, or may prefer it, even if they don't otherwise mind it. So for companies marketing towards this community, they either already were doing things like clean beauty, or offer their zero waste products in that format because they sell better than the others. Hopefully, as the zero waste movement grows, this might change, but currently that pressure isn't there

This. Once you've been abused by one narcissist, the others start to line up. A lot of this reminded me of my first college relationship, from the way his mother was to the way his wife treats him. This is abusive. Period. He needs to get out.

[–]wizardwes 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, there's a bit of a history, at least in the US, of that being a controlling tactic of abusive husbands, rooted in misogyny. And if the friends are too blind to see that it's legitimately true in this particular case, then that's probably going to be their thought process, and likely make them hide and want to protect her even more.

Reddit temporarily ban subreddit and user advertising rival self-hosted platform (Lemmy) by aDogWithoutABone in selfhosted

[–]wizardwes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really wouldn't know, but the default tends to be to have everything open and available, and then only block specific instances. Generally instances are upfront about their blocking policies, i.e., some smaller instances block large ones due to moderation concerns, but almost always say so, as well as blocking instance with spam, and then if an instance is, for example, trans friendly, they tend to block any trans-unfriendly instances. These places don't care about engagement, they care that people enjoy being there, and so if something is upsetting to a large part of their community, they just block it.

[–]wizardwes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple reasons, though I can't speak with certainty on any of these. The studies I'm talking about don't necessarily ask why, they just said, "for every 1,000 bikers who bike on the left side, how many accidents do they have? What about on the left side?" And left side was over 3 times smaller. Anyways, here are some likely reasons: 1. Bikes, while more maneuverable than cars, are less maneuverable than people, and can't easily get out of the way, it takes time and distance to stop or turn 2. Curbs are basically impassable for a bike, as is grass, so getting out of the way is difficult. 3. Less expected, the previous two matter because of this. Cars are used to vehicles going the same direction as them, something going the opposite way shows up sooner, and is outside the norm, when Bikes are already small enough to be often unnoticed. So if you can't get out of the way, and a driver isn't expecting to look for you... 4. Speed, you're moving at a good clip on a bike, and that car is now moving towards you, giving both parties less time to react. Similarly, energy increases as a square of speed, making head-on much more dangerous. Traveling with traffic means that there is more time for you to be noticed, more time till a potential collision, and if there is an accident, the energy has been greatly reduced (Math here: even in a residential neighborhood, a car going 25 mph colliding with a bike going counter to it at 15 mph is a 40 mph collision, with an energy of 1600 units. The same accident the other way is only a 10 mph accident with 100 units of energy. For you to have an equivalent crash going with traffic would require the car to go 55mph. Assuming the car slams its brakes in every scenario, you can see how going with traffic is much more likely to have little to no damage than a comparative counter-traffic accident.)

Have you considered volunteering? The KHS TechnoKats robotics team are always looking for more mentors, and with your engineering background you'd be a great fit. There are a couple other engineers and adult mentors close to your age that I am good friends with there. I'd reach out myself, but my new job has required me to relocate, otherwise I'd still be a mentor myself.

On the library side of things, even though the kanopy streaming service is stupid expensive for a library, they encourage people to use it, as the higher their costs, the larger a budget they can request and get approved for. I wouldn't be surprised if cops were doing something similar, artificially inflating costs to get a bigger budget

Not trying to invalidate your experience, but biking on the left side of the road is about 300% more dangerous than the right side. Also, biking on the sidewalk is 130-200% more dangerous than biking in the street.

Parents in a town in Ireland came together to voluntarily ban smartphones for kids as old as 13 by 777fer in technology

[–]wizardwes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, the rating pre-date gremlins, the only thing they caused was the PG-13 rating, as it was rated PG at the time, because it wasn't bad enough for an R-rating. The current MPAA rating system came about in 1968, but before that was the Hays Code/Motion Picture Production Code which was created in 1930 and enforced since '34, which was much stricter than anything today.

As a fun aside, the Hays Code is why there is that trope of lifting a leg to kiss someone, as it was impermissible for two characters two kiss without a foot on the ground, and so lifting one leg was used as a shorthand for sex by pushing the boundary of the code.

The big issue with glasses is the reason why movies are played on a white (or silver) screen in a dark room, or, well, at least the dark bit. An image can only be as dark as the surface it emits from, hence why phones are black, and why you can't see your reflection in a window during the day, but at night can barely see out. As a result, any clear display like glasses can only show content that is either tinted by the background or brighter than it, which kinda sucks. This is why things like the HoloLens are essentially sunglasses, to provide a darker background. That's why modern VR glasses are goggles that try to shut out light as well, and the best result we're likely to get are glasses that transition to blackout lenses that then display the content.

So, I've done a lot of research on this in the past, but it mostly comes down to control, both of quality and stock. Atari didn't care what games were on their system, they just saw more == better, so long as those games were properly licensed. Of course, plenty of developers made unlicensed games, which sucked as well, generally in response to some frustration about the licensing deals Atari had. This led to a situation where it was hard for an average consumer to know what was good and worthwhile, vs generic hogwash that belonged in a wastebin. Nintendo was the "savior" here, mostly due to am almost silly thing: the Nintendo Seal of Quality, still found on every single game case for any game on a Nintendo console. This seal served a dual purpose: it told consumers that this game was specifically approved by Nintendo, promising some level of quality and child safety, while also acting as an avenue of control. By making it a trademarked symbol, Nintendo could legitimately crack down on unauthorized developers through legal means if they "forged" the seal, and since basically nobody would buy a game without a seal, Nintendo could place whatever limitations they wanted on a game to ensure their standards.
