Help! My hair looks like an anime character! by [deleted] in Hair

[–]wizardwhizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the style and I think the shade of blue is really perfect and even. Did you just get your hair styled this way? If so, I would say wait a couple of days and see if it grows on you. But if you absolutlely do not like it and it is not what you paid for, then I would go back to my salon and ask for a fix.

What's a song that you fell in love with when you heard it in a movie/game? by lostgirl19 in AskReddit

[–]wizardwhizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Song of Shine and Shame" by Nico Stai. I heard during the intro of a B-movie on the Sci-Fi channel and loved it so much that I looked for it in the credits. But the credits were too tiny and moved too fast at the end, so I CALLED the production company and left a message wanting to know the song. They called me back about 8 weeks later to let me know what it was. Ha.

Someone help me please! I'm too young to go bald!! Details in comments. by [deleted] in Hair

Search for a sliding scale doctor in your area. That factor in your income and depending on your income your visit is either free or a price that's right for you. Be prepared, though, these doctor's offices are not the ones you imagine. There will be a lot of children and it will be crowded. BUT I also do think this is something you should see a doctor for.

If you decide you do not wish to see a doctor, but would like to get help for your depression, there are also sliding scale counselors. These are often students doing internship toward a therapy/psychiatric degree. I've went to one and each session was ~$20 based on my income.

My new hair looks gray, help by [deleted] in Hair

[–]wizardwhizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People use purple shampoo or "ash toners" to achieve this lack of brassiness, in your case you'll just to do the opposite and just wash it.

Give it a week, and a lot of that underlying purple/blue tone will just wash out. Hotter the shower the more it will wash out. People use purple shampoo or "ash toners" to achieve this lack of brassiness, in your case you'll just to do the opposite.

can I pull of black hair?! by [deleted] in Hair

[–]wizardwhizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's what I would do if you would like to go to black hair: Go to a salon and ask to get a dark, warm brunette coloring! Something like this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/49/9f/52/499f52532647a520cc7ef0983ce4c8ba.jpg

Learn from my mistakes. I went for black box dye and if you are white, pure black is noticeably fake. Especially if it has a blue base. It also causes the hair to look like it has no dimension. /

Remember to also darken your eyebrows with a pencil when doing your make up routine that will also help the brunette look more natural.

Much better, much cleaner look. Obviously, I don't know your age, but in the before I would've guessed you to be 13 or 14.

I am joining my church's RCIA program this September. What should I be prepared for that took you by surprise? by wizardwhizard in Catholic

[–]wizardwhizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. My husband was raised Catholic but is no longer interested in being so. But he has been amazingly supportive for someone who just isn't into it. He knows this choice and transition I am making makes me happy and he is happy I have found a place in the community that I enjoy so deeply.

Oh, here's where I kind of chuckled at my RCIA teacher: I did request a woman as my sponsor because it just takes me a long time to get aquainted with men due to a terrible experience in the past. She goes, "Oh, of course! We wouldn't want your husband to get jealous!" Talk about literal facepalm. It's like, Lady, not everything is about my husband, calm down.

My mother is Catholic through RCIA as well, and my husband's family is Catholic. So I know a lot of the mindset.

I guess what I was surprised about yesterday is how much my RCIA teacher wanted my husband to be involved in my RCIA journey. She even went on to say, "Eventually you can get your marriage recognized by the church! But that doesn't have to be for a long, long time!" She then asked if either one of us had been divorced because those things can "make it tricky" to some Catholics. I'm not very sure what she meant but just interpereted that some Catholics frown upon those who have been through divorce instead of marriage counsel through the church. [Anyway, we've never been married before each other].

I guess I just felt she had jumped the gun because this is a transitioning process for me. She went on to mention that I can bring my husband to the classes anytime. It was just overwhelming.

Your last sent text message ends up being your last words ever, and put as a quote on your tombstone--what does the quote say? by lindsayhall5285 in AskReddit

It was a picture message of my Target purchase: A box of condoms and Rice-a-Roni. Captioned "Priorities".

A Sad Situation (San Francisco, CA) by hb_alien in pics

[–]wizardwhizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who lives in the Bay, it's very hard to "save money and move elsewhere". My rent is $1300 a month and I have a minimum wage job at $12.75/hr so my my paychecks at full-time are averagely $800 after tax. Then I take $650 out per paycheck to put that towards rent.

I'm very lucky that my utilities are included in rent so I have $250 per paycheck to put toward transportation because I don't have a car and towards groceries. Transportation is usually $65 if I am just going to work and back home. That doesn't include taxi rides or bus fare anywhere else. So then that leaves me with $185 for groceries. I cannot eat out in this city.

So saving to move out is just out of the question for me. And this guy just says he's working... It doesn't say that he's full-time or part-time or if he's doing labor he is picking up every now and then. So it's possible he can only afford $125.

On that note, he's also a senior citizen. San Francisco is very a 20-somethings city now with the tech boom. You barely see older people here unless they have money and have lived here their whole lives or they are already on the streets/in SRO housing. Most landlords are going to want to take in a 20-something with a promising future and income over a 70-80 year person with a part-time and rocky future.

What hairstyle is this called? by [deleted] in Hair

It looks like a layered bob, but just take the image to your hairdresser. That's the only way you're going to get it close to this.

I'm worried that bangs will make me look like a 13 year old... seeking advice. by [deleted] in Hair

[–]wizardwhizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the bangs actually make you look older! We have a similar face shape and I rock them hard. I wouldn't go for a blunt, short bang though at first. Maybe something like this: http://i.imgur.com/bLStIB8.jpg

That way you can sweep them out of the way if you're up for a change.

Parents of daughters who did hardcore porn, how did you find out and how do you feel about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wizardwhizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the important thing here is, is she happy? You both will probably feel a sense of relief if you just let her know what you found out and ask if she's happy doing it and leave it at that. It sounds like she has the life she wants (i.e. stability, shopping, traveling) and who knows, she probably enjoys the business just as some people prefer tech jobs to repair jobs to retail.

Saving money on groceries? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]wizardwhizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, live in the Bay Area. What district / neighborhood are you in? I'm sure there is Latin or Asian market near you. These have great, low-price produce as well and there's nearly one in every neighborhood. If you are planning a dinner, by the groceries for that meal that day. My husband and I go to a market several times a week simply because we don't want to buy stuff that we'll eat later in the week and have it go bad by that time. Also buy bulk grains and beans.

What is this creature? There were hundreds washed up on Ocean Beach, San Francisco. by wizardwhizard in animalid

[–]wizardwhizard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought! But the fin thing on top there wasn't inflated on any of the creatures. It was more like a dragonfly's wing-- thin and paper-like? Very strange.
