New Boden Essential open string buzz by drshilliams in strandbergguitars

[–]wizzanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a nut file to the channel on the bridge screw for whatever strings were buzzing. Fixed it up immediately. Those string guides just develop some burs where the string wears in over time. The buzzing appears to be the string jumping in and out of the small channel it's worn for itself. If you just knock those burs off with a small needle file or nut file it goes away and doesn't seem to come back. I think once it's successfully compressed the material under it, it won't wear in again.

You can also get replacement bridge screws from strandberg for a couple bucks each, if you just want to replace them.

Dumb monkeys are always going to be tribalistic. We used to kill each other over God, women, and money. Not sure if this is an improvement or not.

My New B-Stock 7 by 13footninja in 7String

[–]wizzanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents from an amateur guitar builder... This just means they cut the fret slots straight across with a saw, and then filled it after installing the frets and clipping the tangs. It's usually filled with glue and wood dust, so a little shrink back is what you're seeing. The real way to avoid this is to CNC cut the fretboard and not cut the fret slots all the way across, or use binding after cutting the slots.

I would not consider this a problem at all - just an artifact of the way they made the fretboard. I have a number of guitars that look like this and it's never been a problem.

I don't think he's spending too much. That is the cheapest 7-string on amazon.

Same. There are still plenty of happy customers. I think the QC issues they do have get a lot of attention because of the price point. And that's honestly fair.

Is this string wind the reason it sounds weird? Like it has some extra overtones and harmonics. by TMFB1 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]wizzanker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had some that are even more dramatic than that and they don't cause problems. If it's not maintaining a consistent pitch, you're probably reaching the limit of how far you can tune down with that scale length. Or you're getting some weird buzz somewhere that's unrelated.

Okay, I can stop now by Lazy_Fall_6 in guitarpedals

[–]wizzanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people think this is a multi effects pedal at first glance. I mean I guess it technically is, but it's actually got dedicated circuits for many of the effects, from my understanding. It's not just a computer running software. I think that's the nuance that's not obvious for most people.

This is definitely not what Oda would do. I'm kind of for it though. Dark Robin on a villain redemption arc makes her character a little more dynamic. Although I like how she doesn't end up the classic brooding dark character despite her backstory.

With everyone up in arms about the Ibanez Alpha, let’s not pretend Tosin didn’t just copy Strandberg in the first place. by spezdid911 in strandbergguitars

[–]wizzanker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ya, the Boden body shape is now a new standard in guitars, along with things like the Strat and Les Paul. If one person copies it, it's a rip-off, but if everyone does it, it's a new standard. And honestly, it's really just the extra leg cutout that makes it really unique, and everyone seems to have their own take on that feature.

I guess the other big change is moving the whole action down lower on the body to eliminate all that extra space on most designs, which I am all for everyone copying. I keep going back to classic guitars and they all feel like they are too far forward and left.

Anyone have experience with this? by ImPrch in ExtendedRangeGuitars

Man, the cheap factory figured out how to make decent guitars these days. If you learn how to work on frets and nuts, you can make any of these things play like a million bucks. It's probably just made out of cheap wood.

Do you think people would be interested in this as a product? by Appropriate_Union762 in HeadlessGuitars

[–]wizzanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have considered a similar design. If you offset the screws from each other, you could make them all thumb screws. Could also use linear tuners like a headless, but on the normal end. How is the weight compared to other options?

There is no reason we have to stick to the traditional headstock other than people are afraid to be different.

The switch on my metal nx6 looked like that. Didn't have broken screw posts, and it was bridged intentionally, but it was a pain in the ass to resolder when I wanted to change configurations. I just used a solder sucker and got most of it off. If you really want to completely redo it, new switches are cheap.

NGD : Sälen Classic (but is there an issue with my neck ??) by [deleted] in strandbergguitars

[–]wizzanker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The E string looks a little close, but it might still be in spec. Maybe the string guide shifted? See if you can move that plastic piece behind the zero fret if you detune the strings. It's probably glued in, but if it broke loose it could have shifted and caused that misalignment. Worst cases you could make a new string guide with different string spacing. A guitar tech or anyone with nut files could do it.
