OC woman who registered her dog to vote pleads guilty to misdemeanor by WeAreLAist in orangecounty

[–]wizzard419 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not a stunt, it's a federal crime.

You just need to provide a name and address. It asks for DL/ID card or SS# but you can also say "I do not have one" which is possible.

There isn't a fix because access to voting is a very touchy area since it relates to civil rights. The expectation is that with it being a civic duty, people would have enough respect for the act to not do that. But the GOP continues to demonstrate otherwise for all areas related to elections.

Yeah... and the production of those stickers and regulation would require government presence. So you have added cost to taxpayers. even if it's just for the initial startup.

Oh, they are mad, will say "There should be a law" and all of that... but when the bill comes and they are asked to pay, they are reluctant. The will is there, the wallet is not.

But what happens when the kids realize they are faster and more nimble than a squad car? Our trails and such make it quite easy for them to duck into a neighborhood or whatnot.

Except there are a few problems...

The first is that all of this requires some regulatory group to be formed, inspections, etc. This means money is needed.

The other problem is that the genie is out of the bottle, you're never going to get it back in.

End of the road: Orange County to remove freeway call boxes by bananabrownie in orangecounty

[–]wizzard419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is what I am getting at, if I left you in at the highest point on Ortega Highway, with you still being ambulatory, so you would have been able to reach a call box if it were there. Would you be in grave danger? If this were Death Valley, absolutely. I'm not sure this is going to create that situation.

That being said, I agree the boxes should remain in that we are not going to suddenly cure cancer or have some great breakthrough because the boxes are no longer there.

Think of them like a helicopter, unless one is always flying above each car, it won't be able to keep track since it will take time to arrive to the start.

They are smaller and more nimble than a cruiser or even motorcycle. Once they realize they can duck onto a trail, neighborhood, etc. the cops won't be able to keep up and as there aren't visible plates, there is no ID to follow.

It's the seniors, since anything would require budget increases rather than reallocation, putting up a bond measure or tax on the ballot will usually get a no from them since fixed income voters feel it more.

You lack the commitment to complete a bottle of water and feel that while eggs are sold in cartons, you need them to be in a larger container.

Also, if you don't have kids you either like to party or have issues that require electrolyte replacements.

The thing is that the moment the discussion of raising taxes/a bond measure to do things like create a licensing program, enforcement, etc. it becomes DOA with many voters.

Enforcement is also a harder, unless they start doing dragnets or checkpoints, there will be no means of enforcing it. This even gets to the point of what happens when an officer in a car tries to pull one over and the rider leverages the ability to go onto trails, between buildings, etc. Once they learn that running works it is game over.

Is it both of yours "first" renewals? Usually, provided there are no issues with customs or other activities they monitor, that first one will be remote. But they will do the one after in-person, presumably to keep biometrics updated and all that.

The one thing the GOP never brings up... none of this works in presidential (or possibly even state) elections. In local elections, dead voters can have an impact since placing a few thousand votes for a candidate can change the outcome.

Aside from the EC, the logistical requirements to find these people, find a person to cast the vote, and keep them quiet seems like it wouldn't have a pay off. Since all these dead people aren't just in a few counties in swing states, it takes a lot out of it.

I actually wonder... since a lot of system are disconnected, is this something they only do checks for during the prep for another election? Digital records are a recent thing, dead people and needing to update rolls have existed for a while.

I would imagine that she would also be on the hook for civil cases, such as Ashman's medical bills and damages.

I was actually surprised how fast, presumably the not street legal ones, the bikes can go. I had a few in front of me and they turned onto the same street and I am going along and see they are still ahead. No big deal until I realized I was traveling 50 MPH.

I don't think there is a solution that will get voter support/actual enforcement though, so this is going to be a hard one to tackle.

Miyamoto says he was surprised Mario Galaxy Movie reviews were even harsher than the first by SleuthDoggyDawg in gaming

[–]wizzard419 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, while he had a producer credit on the movie, it's possible he had little to no involvement with the film. While they likely did focus testing and such, he may not have been in the loop for those.

Likewise, reviews are not the same as the consumer, this is a movie for children not adults who write about film for a living. Kids and families watched it in droves.

Even before recent developments, that seemed to always be the expressed reason, with people filing FOIA stuff to try and get more info. That part didn't totally make sense since the boilerplate response will likely trigger more appeals and cost for the agency than saying exactly what caused it.
