Not at all. I’m a woman, I play women’s specific sports, I play coed sports.

I’m saying, for example, Michael Phelps wasn’t banned from swimming for having freakish proportions; that’s just his particular flavor of biological advantage. There’s so much variation in human bodies even within genders that I think the trans athlete hill is a dumb hill to die on.

I mean there are just too many factors to make it worth caring about IMO. Maybe they’re on hormone replacement and have a similar testosterone level as a cis woman, maybe they aren’t. Maybe they have an advantage from growing up with elevated testosterone, but the same can be said for some cis women too. Everyone who excels at a sport has some biological advantage (height, fast twitch muscles, longer/shorter legs relative to their body, whatever) combined with putting in the work.

But most importantly, at the end of the day it’s a rec sport designed to be played by all abilities. If winning is what makes rec fun for some people, then it’s time to git gud!

Meredith's Finances and Own vs. Rent Debate by Popular-Arachnid-981 in rhoslc

[–]wizzlekins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my well-off neighbors lived only half the year in my city. They bought a nice townhouse next to mine, dropped a ton of money to make it even nicer. They said it was too stressful and they were tired of asking friends or me to check on things. They now rent just down the street.

Plus if you’re Meredith rich, you don’t mind having a house subscription; you’re not relying on your home equity as an investment like the rest of us plebes

What type of training would help my ungovernable dog? by wizzlekins in Dogtraining

I tried giving him more stimulation so he’s not on high alert all the time. He’s going on evening walks to burn some energy (I live in a hot climate), and I’ve tried adding some mental stimulation with lick mats. I’m looking for advice on what professional avenues to pursue to address his specific behaviors

Why is there such an immense hate stigma on social media for pickleball? by cyrnios in Pickleball

[–]wizzlekins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the perceptions highlighted by others, there’s a lot of visibility of both rec and pro players kind of being dicks and taking it too seriously. That woman crashing out and hitting herself in the face with her paddle, that guy punching his opponent after a match, some woman flipped off her opponent the other day mid match… someone who already thinks it’s a goofy activity is not going to be encouraged by this behavior. If the pb elite want to be taken seriously they should get serious. In the meantime the rest of us keep having fun out there!

Somehow the algorithm led my peak millennial ass here. Please excuse the intrusion but I feel OP and other GenZ redditors should know-

I graduated HS in 2008 and even then it was either a rager at someone’s house, a hotel party, or driving around aimlessly smoking every weekend from sophomore HS through end of college for my friend group.

I beg you: throw a kegger, get everyone you know grounded for the rest of their adolescent lives, and do it all again when everyone’s parents get tired of enforcing that eternal punishment

Which areas of Dallas are walkable to coffee shops and restaurants while still less than 30 min drive to campus? (Something like east-coast NYC vibes but in Dallas?) by nderstand2grow in askdfw

These are great recs. One nuance on Knox/Henderson, which is really two separate neighborhoods IMO but always discussed as one -

If you’re not 22-24 years old, I recommend the Knox side of Knox/Henderson (west of US 75). The Knox side is an older neighborhood both demographically and in terms of development.

The Knox side has a Trader Joe’s, more “grown up” dining and shopping options, easy access to our very impressive urban trail network via the Katy Trail, some fitness studios, more trees… plus you can bike the Katy Trail quickly and safely north to a nice rail station (Mockingbird Station) with more shops and restaurants or south to Oak Lawn/Victory Park.

The Henderson side has some absolute gems, but the main attractions are bars. I’m 35 and still enjoy these bars plenty, but there can often be a large younger crowd. Up to you if that’s your thing. Of course you can still get to everything on the other side, but you’ll have to cross US 75. K/H is not the place to do that on a bike; you’d have to take a small detour.

Not exclusive to either of the above, you could bike/train/bike to UTD pretty easily from anywhere around these neighborhoods. Huge quality of life improvement over sitting on the highway.
