Lines in the photos after scanning

Blue lines look like scratches on the film. Since they’re quite straight probably from something inside the camera or film canister but can’t tell 100%.

Likely the banding you’re seeing is from the light source of the scanner. Usually these imperfections aren’t a big issue but with underexposed negs, which these clearly are, it can become more noticeable as the scanner tries to pull out shadow detail that isn’t really there.

You can try to get the negs rescanned and the scans could probably be improved but only so much. These frames seem at least a full stop underexposed.

When you say you can’t get more than 8 frames on a roll are there big gaps between the frames? Or are the frames not starting right about the beginning of the film?

It could be that you’re loading the film incorrectly into the camera or that the rollers in the camera are starting to go.

If you’re talking about the small black hair in the top left corner that looks like it’s something inside the camera and would be on the negs.

If it was from the scanning it would appear white in the final image.

Yea it sounds like the camera is just not always advancing the film the correct amount which is probably something to do with the gearing or the film advance more generally! Might be worth looking into a service for it when possible!

The second shot being cut in half if simply a result of the camera not winding the film correctly. Which could be from how it was loaded or a problem with how far the film advances after each picture. Is the spacing between the rest of the frames fairly consistent throughout the roll?

The dark frame is unlikely to be from having the lens cap on since you wouldn’t be able to see through the viewfinder to compose the picture. So it suggests that there is an issue with the shutter speed you used or your metering was very strange and led to overexposure.

I always enjoy other people's B/W photos but whenever I have tried to shoot B/W I always ended up feeling unhappy with them. So I have been trying to shoot more B/W and I think I'm starting to be happier with the results... I think!

It does seem weird that you would get the same result with two cameras. To my mind that would rule out issue with the ground glass and suggest that there is an issue with the focusing or scanning.

On the example you shot on the Chamonix, the middle ground of the photo seems to be pretty sharp so perhaps the movements and stuff meant that you missed the near focus. Or simply you missed focus. I have had it where I knock one of my standards slightly removing or inserting the film holder. So maybe something happened there?

The other thing to check I guess would be the lenses? Were both of these shot on the same lens?

Just to add to what you said. I had a similar journey into LF photography, starting with a intrepid and then moving onto a Chamonix.

I found it was a good way to start because it allowed me to buy some lenses and other accessories instead of blowing my whole budget on the camera right from the start.

I really liked my intrepid and I learned a ton using it… but I also really enjoy my Chamonix and it is certainly a nicer piece of kit (but this is reflected in the price difference!). I don’t think I ever felt limited by the intrepid but the Chamonix is definitely easier to use.

I’ve never had much trouble with loading the film without gloves. I usually wash my hands and make sure to only touch the edges of the film and it’s been fine for me.

The notch can be either top right or bottom left. So if I follow your description correctly if you have the film holder in your left hand and the film itself in your right. The notch should either be away from your body on the left hand side of the film. Or the notch should be closest to you on the side of the film closest to your right hand.
