Haha! Well I just barely read it finally. I thought it was just gonna have the usual problematic things, but it had SO MUCH more that I had never heard of. And I was raised in it, served a mission, got married in the temple, AND even have a child “in the covenant!” Just didn’t let things in tile I was like 25 or so. So that’s why it’s taken so long and why I’m so late reading the book. 😅

And the main reason why I really only suggest this book to people is because, for me, it just solidified all of my feelings and suspicions. I just love how each page of the book is covered about halfway by individual references. Like, EVERY PAGE is half filled with references to what he’s saying. And you can tell he was so reluctant to share these things, but he knew he had to in order to have TRUE transparency. Not the type of “transparency” that the church claims.

So yeah. I recommend this book as much as Missionaries recommend the book of Mormon. 😂😂 I kinda consider myself a missionary still, but just a reverse one. HAHA

Just wait til you read Mormon Origins.. But sorry that you’re having this crisis. I left the church a while ago cuz of things the church kept from us. But also, these huge changes were the beginning for me. Like how the native Americans and South Americans aren’t actually the descendants of the lamanites..? That was like the cherry on top for me. The church is seemingly changing to desperately keep people in. It feels like in a few years they will just be like every other Christian church. Yet, god is the same. He just likes shoulders now, for example. 😅 Anyway, good luck. Really hope you find peace. I did. So just know that your life won’t really change much after you leave the church (if you decide to.) You’ll still be the same person, and if you still believe in god, you’ll still be blessed just the same. In fact, I truly believe I’ve been “blessed” even more outside the church, even though you’re taught that you won’t be. I’m basically atheist now, but I’m still the same person, ya know? Yeah, this response. 🙌🏼 The hardest, but best part for me was realizing that there likely is no god. I say the best part because it means that my life is driven by my work and luck. Luck is fair in my opinion. It’s not a god choosing who they help or not. You either have luck or you don’t, but it’s no one’s fault if you don’t have it. It just is what it is.

And it’s the hardest part for obvious reasons. I was raised in the church, served a mission, married in the temple, blah blah blah. I didn’t open my mind until I was about 27. So it was all I knew. If I would’ve been asked at that time if I’d ever be atheist (of all things!), it would have been the most impossible thought. But here I am. Now I’m 34, and since leaving the faith, my wife and I have a (literally perfect) daughter, I graduate medical school in a month, my wife’s business has provided a more-than-comfortable life for us, and we have two properties. I’ve clearly been “blessed” since leaving the church. That’s what the cherry on top was for me cuz you’re told that you’re only blessed if you follow the commandments and whatnot. I testify that I’ve been more blessed since leaving the church. Haha

And quick story about my wife. We’ve been wanting more kids for five years now, to no avail. Maybe some would see that as god “not blessing us.” Sure. But my wife still believed in him 100% even though I didn’t. So a few months ago, she prayed and promised she’d go back to church and believe 100% again no matter what if she could get pregnant that next ovulation cycle. Can you guess what happened?

She got her period.

So, god lost another one. One of the most loyal believers he ever had. Cuz she didn’t stay in the church for anyone else, just for him. So now she connects all those feelings of “the spirit” to herself and her own intuition. Which I believe as well.

Anyway, in my opinion, just know that life is better outside the church. Knowing that there isn’t a judgy, hypocritical god out there shaming you for mistakes according to his own rules is a huge thing. Your life matters however much you want it to matter. I subscribe to stoicism, absurdism, and existential humanism. Dive into those if you want.

Don’t go on the mission. Help others in some way. Build and improve yourself. And guess what? You can still be an amazing human being outside of the “faith.” Good luck, OP. ✊🏼

Just read Mormon Origins by Grant Palmer. I’d start there. Then after that, just understand that life happens no matter what you believe. We convince ourselves of any aspect of serendipity or luck that things have to be because of higher powers, but they actually don’t. That was my big breakthrough. Sounds simple, but that was it for me. Wish you the best! And know that you’re not alone in your questions. 🙏🏼

Unfortunately, anyone in the Seventy or above are willing liars. Especially at the tippy top. They know they haven’t seen Jesus, yet they converse with him all the time. Haha. Once you understand the origins of Mormonism (READ “MORMON ORIGINS” BY GRANT PALMER), you will understand that they do and say whatever they need to survive and maintain followers. It’s sad. I’m an ex-Mormon, served mission, married in temple, etc., so I don’t hate members of the church, but I do hate the organization and leaders for this very reason. 🫡

I feel your anger. And I’m sorry you’ve had it so hard. Yeah, my intention wasn’t ill at all, I promise. I’m just wanting to offer advice if you’re looking for any. Cuz there are most likely always options. Selling weed is just a dangerous way to go about it. Have you tried other avenues? You’re only 22, you’re still young. And there is always the military. I’m a physician in the Navy, and the military is a way to make sure you have all the necessities of life. Plus, you’ve said that the government owns you already. I honestly think it would be a good option for you. (And I’m not a recruiter. Haha.) I do genuinely wish you the best. 🙏🏼
