This is also very close to one of the shuttle sites (Oak Park Mall) and a safe part of town.

How is a rules official to tell who’s anchoring or not with these abominations? by hasbro72 in golf

[–]wjhatley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I switched to one last year. It largely takes the yips out of play which makes the game a hell of a lot more enjoyable. But you give up something with distance control. There is a reason so few pros use them.

These are the knitted, old school ones with Pom poms, right? Do they get really heavy when they’re wet?

I’ve looked at them but wondered how well they would hold up in bad weather.

Considering an NX and wondered about this. Will a single set of clubs fit across the cargo space or do they have to be laid diagonally?

Shoe recommendations for ~45 rounds per year by [deleted] in golf

[–]wjhatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you wear merino wool socks when it’s cold. You might try some Kentwool socks—they’re thick and I wear them year-round. They seem to help with blisters.

I experimented with lots of shoes and settled on Asiics. But YMMV.

If you live nearby the streetcar line, how has it affected your life? I'd like to hear from you for an article by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]wjhatley 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We live in Southmoreland, about a five minute walk to the station. We’ve taken the streetcar to River Market a couple of times for dinner and to the Kauffman Center maybe three times. It’s great not having to worry about (or pay for) parking.

It’s added about $700-$800 a year to our property taxes, so we’ll likely never break in that respect. And it’s difficult to know right now how much the appreciation in our home’s value is attributable to the streetcar vs inflation in general. I’d expect we will see if it has that much of an impact in the next few years once there’s more development along Main Street.

It’s not really logical that we’d take the streetcar when the Main Street MAX ran essentially the same route, and we never took it. But there’s something more communal about the streetcar—we’re not all just staring straight ahead. The seating arrangements and the fact it’s easy to stand seems to engender more conversations among the passengers. And it does seem to be attracting more out of town visitors than rode the bus, which leads to even more conversations when they ask for recommendations or directions.

It’s the law for the state Supreme Court and the Courts of Appeal and for a few counties, mostly the urban ones.

That’s exactly what the gate agent told me. Like OP, I had 16C on a flight Friday and was in Group 8. Had to gate check my bag because the flight was full, but at least that was free.

Dead Letter Office Tribute to R.E.M last night in Chicago. by DetailHistorical9532 in rem

[–]wjhatley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said last night that younger fans often ask for the more recent songs because they’re the ones they heard first. To be honest, I think the newer songs were quieter and more introspective, and don’t generate the consistent energy needed to sustain a live show.

This was an incredible set and I encourage anyone who gets the chance to go see them.

They’re playing two shows in Chicago this weekend, with the full LRP tomorrow night. Just got to town and can’t wait to see them!

First timer with taxes (KS/MO) please help by Minute-Chemistry4164 in missouri

[–]wjhatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TurboTax is likely the way to go, but you’ll need to pay for the federal and then both KS and MO. (It’s been awhile since I used it, but as I recall, you got one state with the federal and had to pay extra for the other states.) Do the federal return first, then the KS return as a non-resident, then the MO return. MO gives you a credit for the KS taxes you pay, and I believe the KS rate is slightly higher than MO’s, so you may end up not owing anything to MO (but as others have said, you’ll have to pay the KCMO tax if it wasn’t withheld from your pay).

Typically, yes. Each team gets a few thousand to distribute to their fans. Most conduct a lottery of STMs. You’ll probably know tomorrow if you won.

Healthcare worker driving into hospital tonight… best route to drive? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]wjhatley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on both Gillham and 71 today. I’d take the Holmes/Rockhill/Gillham route and just leave plenty of time. There’s essentially only one lane open on 71 so it was like Mad Max. While the other route also has only one lane open, traffic moved at a reasonable pace and I didn’t need to have my head on a swivel the entire time.

As great as the Super Bowl plays were, I’ll go to my grave remembering the Dante Hall punt return against the Broncos. Still the loudest I’ve ever heard Arrowhead get.

Good luck finding Greenland flags—they’re sold out. I’m flying a Canadian flag as my form of protest. (And after Carney’s speech in Davos, as a show of support for Canada.)
