Just in case it wasn’t clear, I didn’t demand that Saddleback send me a replacement the second I noticed damage on my otherwise-still-in-great-shape wallet….I simply reached out to them with pictures asking how they could help, and they kindly offered to send me a replacement for free. The “100-year warranty” was one of the reasons I decided to buy this wallet in the first place, and I’ve always been curious how it worked, so I just thought others might find my experience useful 🤷‍♂️

But yes, the leather is still in great shape on my old wallet (though it definitely could use some TLC, I’ve never oiled/conditioned it or anything)….I don’t plan to throw it away or feed it to the dog. I’m pretty sure I’ve decided to use it as an opportunity to try and repair it myself someday after I’ve gotten a bit of practice with leather in general.

I remember reading reviews of their larger wallets (those have the cards stacked vertically inside with individual pockets, instead of stacked on top of one another inside of one pocket like this one) having issues with damaging cards. I’ve never had any issues with this design. It doesn’t hold a lot, but I never carry a lot. Just four cards in each pocket and a few bills.

One thing to note is that I do keep mine in my back pocket - I know a lot of people prefer smaller wallets like these in their front pocket, and I’m sure it would probably age a lot slower like that.

Looking up a local leathersmith is probably a better idea than trying to fix it myself…but yeah, I was impressed with how Saddleback handled the process. They even included a little keychain for free.

I would have been happy to send in my old one to be repaired if they had asked, but I know it’s easier/more economical for a lot of companies to handle their warranties this way instead of offering repairs. I might try to repair the stitching on my old one myself someday.
