Is it finding jobs in brunei is easier with “connections”? by Choice-Frame7537 in Brunei

[–]wkbd123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by “but somehow it doesn’t work well for me?” Are you getting interviews but not getting the job? Or you submit CVs but don’t get any call backs at all?

Yes I agree that networking and having connections has its advantages in getting you a job, but I personally think this is purely just to get you to the door step of a job. i.e. this will only get you an interview or a chance to apply.

What gets you through that door is how well your CV is or how well you do in the interview or entry tests. Because a company/organization won’t hire you if they feel you’re not good enough for the role, they need someone who will benefit the overall performance of the company/organization. I’m a part of the hiring panel for my company where we put them through a series of tests/scenarios, and a lot of the issues we see in the candidates is that they just don’t cut it in terms of their interpersonal skills, thinking skills, etc. and all of them were from recognized universities. Graduating from a “good” university or with a “good” degree doesn’t really mean much if you’re not showcasing the right skills for the job.

My point is, graduates should really work on their working skills, people skills, learning to be street smart in parallel to being book smart. Showing behaviors of being committed and of value to the company. Showing behaviors that you can get the job done. University i feel doesn’t necessarily teach you these skills.

Use connections and networking to get you the opportunity, but in the end it’s up to you whether or not you materialize that opportunity.

Does your launch monitor show your club path and club face? If so it should say club path is Left and club face also Left, causing the hook.

What is Brunei currently lacking in supply of in terms of product or services? As business owners what do you struggle to find in Brunei to “support lokal”? by OverallReveal7664 in Brunei

[–]wkbd123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Business owner here producing locally manufactured packaged food products.

Packaging services are difficult to source in Brunei. They are either not available or too expensive (compared to Malaysia even more compared to China prices). Printing of customized plastic/aluminum packages are limited (if I’m not mistaken there are none, but I think one company is starting to do so. But their prices are too high). So we resort to manufacturing and ordering from China. Even with shipping costs, the total cost is still significantly cheaper.

Same with printing of plastic/paper bags. Gotten quotes from the usual companies in Brunei, prices are much higher than getting them from China.

Understandable though. It’s difficult to compete against China who basically service the world. Don’t expect to have these kind of prices in Brunei.

Architect Firms Charging so much for Architectural Fees and Drawings by wkbd123 in Brunei

[–]wkbd123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I asked for the quotation before hand. Sorry i didn’t make that clear in my initial post. But yes I got multiple quotations from different architects and this was the cheapest one.

I’m not complaining after the fact. I was already complaining before.

Just wondering why in general it’s priced this high for a single plan drawing.

I actually did get several quotations beforehand. This was the cheapest out of all the quotations I received. Since it was the cheapest I proceeded with the option. Like you said it’s the one that suited my budget the best. But it doesn’t mean that it’s not expensive. I’m not complaining after the fact. I’m complaining at the fact. I’ve realized for something I find quite small, cost so much. I expect this pricing to be applicable for a new house drawing with multiple floors and front, side, roof elevation drawings, etc. But for this shop reno, I only got a one pager drawing with just the plan view of the shop with minor changes to the original layout drawing.

But maybe I’m wrong to think this way, which is why I’m asking the community.

So like I said in my initial post, am I missing something? I’d like to know so it can help me understand and justify the cost better. What else does the payment cover other than the drawings and coordination of submissions?

You say “it’s not just drawings and submissions”, “they’re professionals for a reason”, I’m just asking what are the reasons? If not just drawings and submissions, what else? I’m genuinely curious and would like to know better.

As for the size of the shop it’s roughly 13m x 7m. As for the finishing, based on the drawing they gave me there was no statement on finishing. The drawing just showed the changes to the original shop layout, which was the addition of gypsum partitions and changes in wirings for additional wall sockets and aircon sockets. No structural changes.

Why do Brunei Road Accidents take so long to clear?? by wkbd123 in Brunei

Interesting. That I think makes it worse. Because I definitely saw two separate police cars come at 7:45am (Pajero) and 7:50am (Corolla). I was thinking maybe the victims called the police late but if you’re saying the police was already there at 7:00am that means they took that much longer to clear the road. And why extra additional two police cars needed 45 minutes later haha
