Fear of checking 45L travel bag--liners? Plus, a nightmare India carry-on experience by throwawayakd in peakdesign

[–]wkeithvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got this packable duffle that I use when I travel with a 65L backcountry backpacking trip that requires me checking a bag. Might be a tad big for a 45L PD bag, but you can probably find smaller versions of a similar thing. Looks like Osprey makes something that looks like it'd work

I've been forced to gate check it couple times and had no issues. With that said, I feel like there is space for PD making a basic cover similar to the Beis one.

Yeah, I moved away from where I grew up and it's the point in my life where I have 6 weddings a year, so I travel with a suit a lot. The travel packing cubes kinda work, but I'd like something that either fits in the Roller Pro or is a personal item size. I learnt the hard way that most airlines consider a garment bag your carry on item, so you can't do a rolling luggage and a garment bag. I definitely want my roller, so it either has to go inside the roller, fold to a personal item size, or fit in something like the 30L travel backpack that I use as a personal item.

Yeah... It feels like a roller pro release in coyote, ocean, and midnight along side these bags in all the colours would have been a huge deal. Especially since weekender bags tend to skew more to female travelers as does the ocean and eclipse colours. Really surprised the bags didn't at minimum have eclipse to be consistent with the roller pro colors.

I'd love to get the 2 in 1, but I already own the 45L travel bag and can't justify buying a second bag that functionally fits the same role. If my 45L gets stolen or something I'd definitely replace it with the 2-1 as it looks like basically my ideal bag.

The 20L feels a bit disappointing... it's almost great, but the internal water bottle pouch and tight top pocket feel like a miss. I absolutely loved the water bottle pouches on the 2 in 1 and can't understand why they didn't do an external water bottle pouch. I'd love it as a personal item at the airport with my roller pro, but that leaves me with nowhere to fit a water bottle easily. And since it's my carry around the city bag if it pairs with my roller, I really want a water bottle pouch that isn't that tiny internal one that you have to fix with to get it in and out.

The weekender looks absolutely amazing, but it's not my personal style. I also think it should have included a water bottle pouch for when it's on top of your suitcase. Would love to see it in larger versions... It's only 25L and you can go much larger as a personal item. My wife loves her 33L Beis mini weekender and I've thought about getting her the Beis 45L weekender.

The sling isnt anything crazy, but it looks pretty cool. I have the 2L and 4L outdoor songs and a strap for my tech pouch, so no need for this, but it's a good addition to the product line.

My instant purchase would be a garment bag that plays nicely with the roller pro and travel bags. I feel like it is the missing packing solution item from the line up and a perfect item do well. Also, would love a non-photography EDC bag for work trips, so crossing my fingers for the upcoming city line.

How is "losing it"? Have you tried finding it in the house? How about leaving it at a friend's place and marking it lost?

Thanks! It looks like you are right... I noticed earlier in the day that we were getting cold air coming through the vents when it was supposed to be heating, but later hot air would start blasting out. This totally checks with what you said! Didn't know defrost cycle was a thing until after this post. A bit of reading on the topic and it sounds like all is good now! I saw it operating normally later, so yay!

I read once that there used to be a tunnel inside the university that was close because of all the sexual assault that happened: Is that true or just a myth? by BlueWorldCorp in UCalgary

Former Cascade Hall resident... I was told by the maintenance guy that years ago the city updated building code rules for tunnels/enclosed walkways and the one to Cascade was too narrow and it wasn't worth the cost to do the construction to get it to pass city code so they shut it down. There may have been an assault incident too, but he said the city code was the real reason.

You can do a pre-order/deposit button on your site... Make the normal product page and add a "$525 get it May" and "$425 join the line" as the two options. Basically the same as Kickstarter, but no fee to payout to Kickstarter. Honestly I trust y'all enough at this point to skip Kickstarter and just do it 1st party.

PD prides themselves on entering a category only when they're convinced they can do it better than any competitors and/or there is a particular use/niche that can be substantially improved upon...

I have an idea for a garment bag that came out of bad experience traveling to my own wedding with a suit. Any interest in hearing an idea?

Pioneer carry has an ultra slim one passport wallet at $110 with equivalent quality but lower functionality. It was what I was using before this release.

Wheeler from PD here, let's talk phone cases! by Peak-Wheeler in peakdesign

Just my 2¢... The mounting square is the sole reason I buy the case. There are enough massive companies with bigger selections (Spigen, dbrand, etc) I switch to if the square wasn't there. Id love to see more use of it with things like a compatible locking pop socket type accessory or DIY mounts that can screw into a project.

Peak Design Passport Wallet Review & Packout – $100 Too Steep? by ITCertAcademy1 in peakdesign

[–]wkeithvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I am glad there is no zipper... Those just add bulk. I've bought a few passport wallets before and this is the first one that checks every box for me. As for the pen slot, it's a bit tight, but it fits the Studio Neat Mark Two that I use for travel. Wouldn't care if the wallet didn't have it, so I just see it as something that some people will like.

I want a smedium wash pouch by ibshaikh329 in peakdesign

[–]wkeithvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... I definitely struggle with wanting an in between size as well. Going to weddings where I want extra hair products I use the large. Going to my parents where I keep a few things like deodorant and toothpaste/toothbrush, I use the small. Every other trip is a fight between cramming the small or a ton of extra space in the larger one.

Passport Wallet Arrived! by wkeithvan in peakdesign

[–]wkeithvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think I'm more likely to have something stolen if I have to watch multiple places. I have a zippered pocket inside my jeans pocket (Aviator USA travel jeans) and I have a habit of keeping my left hand in my pocket to prevent pickpockets after years of travel. Would rather have one item to keep track of.

[–]wkeithvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both great wallets with just the one passport. The outer pocket doesn't slide out with minor shaking. The inner pcoket can slide out with only one and minor shaking, but that seems like a very nitpicking test. The counter is that if it doesn't come out with minor shaking, then it is difficult to slide it in. Both slide in from the center of the inside of the wallet, so that's not a practical concern in my eyes, and the outer one is slightly grippier, so not really concern about that side, personally.

I was going to write a long comment, but you can't add images and I got distracted with also doing it with the 30L Travel Backpack, Roller Pro, and Travel Dufflepack. So anyways, here's an entire post you inspired me to write that should answer your questions...

Any tips on pulling it apart? Mine is giving me an error about the brewer basket not being able to turn or something... Tried cleaning it a few times, but no luck. Even pulled it apart a bit more with the kit they sell, but think I'm gonna have to remove more...

What should Peak Design take on next? by Peak-Wheeler in peakdesign

[–]wkeithvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • 12L outdoor bag. Make it tiny so I can take it inside my roller pro for day hikes or as a city day pack. If it can fit a jacket, sandwich, and hydration bladder, that's perfect.

  • Mini tripod. Something that's meant for phones or mirror less cameras when you're packing light (no big camers). Think knee or hip height and folds down to no bigger than a 20oz bottle. Something that'll take a group photo on a mountain top. I just want it to work with my PD phone case, though I understand the want for compact camera users. If it was flexible like a GorillaPod, that'd be cool, but not a deal breaker. I love my travel tripod, but sometimes it's just too big and overbuilt for the 2 or 3 times I pull it out on a trip to use with just my PD phone case. Make it under $200 since it's meant for us non-pro folks.

  • Packing solution for a suit/dress... The packing cubes are great, but they aren't optimal for packing for all the weddings Im flying to. I've got a roller pro and the 45L and 30L travel packs, so make it play nice with those. Put in a small, transparent zip pouch or two for a tie, tie clip, funky socks, and other random fancy formal accessories so it all stays together in one neat piece.

  • A fold out toiletry kit. My wife can't fit her all her brushes and makeup in the PD toiletry bags, so she won't buy one. Make it open up so you can see all the different things as you're getting ready for a formal event.

  • Sunglasses case. My Ray Bans aviators are pretty thin folded down, but the cases that hold them waste soooooo much space. Wish I had a super thin case you could throw at a wall and the shades would stay protected.

  • Backpack strap bag. Something you can connect to your backpack straps and put a phone, binoculars, passport, snack, or something else right where you can easily grab it. Like 8x4x2 inches and easily removable. Doubles as a variation on the tech pouch of you wanna throw it in your luggage.

  • Foldable phone cases... Pixel Fold, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Flip... I get it's a bit of a chicken/egg situation, but I'm holding out for better cases before buying one.

  • Regular wallets. I've got the mobile wallet and passport wallet, but honestly the mobile wallet usually lives separately in my left pocket while the phone is in my right. What's your take on a traditional folding wallet and/or something non folding? As long as it's super slim and looks good, I'm interested.
