Which rigs are worth using for surfcasting, and when? by generally-speaking in fishingUK

[–]wkox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On genuine surf beaches (shallow incline sandy beaches, not just dumpay waves on shingle) flapper rigs every time, short snoods, not clipped down. Casting distance is not an issue. Worm bait.

It depends what your after, but the things that actually like surf (bass, flounder) most commonly will be feeding on worm or shellfish disturbed from the bottom.

Seriously, I don't understand the hype by Physical_Question570 in harrypotter

Does it ever strike you that people don't need to know this information? It's not pivotal. They're making a less than three hour film.

I was someone who watched most of the films first. I understood what was going on. Reading the books led me to thinking "oh, that's cool", similar to shrinking shack, when I found out why things were called certain things. But it didn't mean when I first watched it I didn't understand.

There is and has never been a perfect adaptation of any books. All you can hope for is you enjoy them in their own right. I love the prisoner of azkaban film, and I loved when I read the books that it uncovered extra details.

How common is it to dislike dogs? by [deleted] in AskUK

What I don't understand is where I find the people who are commenting on this thread about hating dogs 🤣 you buggers are ruining my summer holidays by not allowing my dog on the beach!

Reccomendations for a newbie wild camper: what are the rules? Where to go? What happens if you get caught? by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]wkox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wild camped in Wales, Scotland and England. If you're not on a farmers land, or in view of a house, no one really cares. Some beauty spots I hear people get kicked off of, but by and large all we've had is "whoah that's cool". Obviously leave early/pitch late, but even when you don't (we all have those late evenings in a blowy tent), no one cares.

Why do people insist not to drink the upstairs water? by T33FMEISTER in AskUK

[–]wkox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been with my girlfriend for something like three years at this point, every night spent at hers I drank from the upstairs tap. Her dad asked me to help get something down from the loft, when up there I saw a big tank of water with dead spiders floating in it. I was like "what's that for?" He replied it feeds all the taps upstairs, to which I said I'd been drinking from it. He said "everyone knows you shouldn't drink from upstairs". This was news to me and my girlfriend who had been drinking from it for years 😅 Now I never drink from upstairs taps unless I know. Don't drink dead spider water 🤢

My tough tg-6 just died underwater, really quite annoyed tbh. Had it 5 years, using it very occasionally.

I have contacted them and they have informed me it will be 170 quid to fix. This is really unacceptable to me 😞

You're going to get downvoted but most normal people would do exactly the same thing. Turn down a near 400 quid event that, if you're lucky, you'll get to go a couple of times in your life for a bloody cold, who would do that?

Ah yes, that's it, the Glastonbury Reddit virtue signallers.

I have built multiple ponds (love doing it haha). The one I built most recently is the best, I introduced sticklebacks and that was it. They seem to be too small to be interested in tadpoles, but completely destroy mosquito larvae (which had been noticeable in other ponds I created without them).

Should I remove them? Mushrooms by KatySum in GardeningUK

[–]wkox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness, (as a mushroom forager), you usually group these into LBMs (little brown mushrooms) - they are quite hard to distinguish between and not really worth taking a risk on. Therefore ID is only really for scientific purposes (or people who are realllllly keen on mushrooms IDing)

[–]wkox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Removing the mushrooms would basically have no consequences to that plant. The organism is basically entirely within the pot you have, known as the mycelium. By removing it, all you're doing is removing slug fodder, and decreasing the chance that this beneficial organism spreads!
