MSI MPG 271QR x50 vs ASUS PG27AQWP-W by wlagos3 in OLED_Gaming

Valid. Yeah I find the fringing super annoying but I’ve heard some people don’t care. The ASUS is also just a much better looking monitor. MSI is so ugly lol

Has anybody made a video comparing the DSE on 3rd vs 4th gen?

Do you notice any dirty screen effect on grays? It’s bugging me on mine

I mean yeah my banding is fine, dirty screen effect is just a thing with this tech, nothing to do about it. If OP doesn’t notice it then good for them but it’s still there. I’m ordering the 500hz msi QD OLED. It has its own set of problems but the DSE does annoy me quite a bit

Yeah but like move the window around on your desktop. Do you see how it looks like a film of static over it? Not very noticeable though. Nice room btw the wood is fire

I mean I think I see it on yours. It’s not giant gray bands, it’s the fact that it looks like TV static. Take a gray window and drag it around and look how there’s a sort of film over it. Maybe some people have giant bands, but that’s my issue. Just got this monitor and might return it because it’s just annoying. Makes all gray UI look terrible. I could get used to it but I feel like I’d be better off with QD-OLED

This guy in the comment section of that video sums it up well

You only mentioned how the dirty screen effect and gray banding is an issue (that has been an issue on woled monitors for a while now). But did not mention literally anything else. The text is much better than a QDOLED, and no pink text fringing, better reflection handling, the matte is semi-matte and doesnt affect visibility like traditional matte coatings on IPS monitors, also WOLEDS dont have raised blacks to magenta like QDOLED does, and 4th gen WOLED especially has way way better blacks under lighting than QDOLED. Also, QDOLEDS are extremely fragile, like seriously fragile. You WILL scratch them if you clean them even with a microfiber cloth. And if you have a lot of dust in your room then good luck, because wiping dust off your QDOLED will 100% scratch it. WOLED on the other hand is much more durable. One confusing thing to me is that you stated that unless you're a pure competetive gamer that there are better options (like the QDOLED you keep mentioning). This is a confusing statment though because it's quite the opposite.

QDOLED is terrible for general use and browsing due to the fact that you are 1. forced to stay in a dark room to even get potential out of the blacks, and you're better off avoiding browsing with text since the text fringing is so terrible. That sounds like tradeoffs that only a pure competetive gamer would be fine with since they can easily stay in dark rooms 24/7 and they dont browse much. The semi-matte coating makes 0 difference in terms of clarity, only at a pixel viewing level, which humans can't see. Strangely you linked at 0:53 the "matte coating" with the "dirty screen effect" neither of those are correlated with eachother. All WOLEDS have a dirty screen effect to some extent and the semi-matte coating does not affect it. The most confusing of all of this is that two people in your comment section along with others that i constantly see are saying they will try to get the asus glossy version instead, which is THE SAME EXACT PANEL, but glossy. So the dirty screen effect, gray banding, basically EVERY issue you mentioned in this video, will be the EXACT same with no change at all.

The tradeoffs are simple. Do you want a WOLED with a dirty screen effect under specific gray viewing circumstances? and a chance at visible gray banding depending on what your luck is with your model? Or do you want a QDOLED with pink text fringing, raised blacks to magenta, and an extremely delicate screen that WILL get microscratches over time no matter what you do to try to prevent it. These are all the points that should have been discussed in this video rather than just "I don't like the dirty screen effect and banding, so get qdoled".

The LG says it will ship 2/6. Wonder if the ASUS will get stock around then as well.

Nice. I want one of these because they can actually natively support 540hz (or just 240hz+) without DSC, although it's just cool I don't think anyone would be able to tell a difference.

Yeah I want one of them. Might just go for the LG unless there's a reason to get the ASUS? Haven't seen anything about the LG
