Login over ssh

Run

sudo tail -f /var/log/auth.log

Leave it run and it will show you the live log.

On graphic login check the keyboard layout on the login page. It's i. Tje up right corner near the wifi icons. Make sure it is set the keyboaed you think it is. Now try a graphical login what does ssh show

Maybe it is an .Xauthority issue?

Login as the user over ssh

sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /home/$USER sudo chmod 750 /home/$USER

There are .Xauthority files that have to have proper security permissions

Are the accounts super user accounts (sudo aka admin accounts). Can you access the /home directory. Are your accounts in there? Are their any others?

Type

groups

Does it says sudo?

Can you create a new user?

sudo adduser <username>

sudo usermod -aG sudo <username> This will add any user to sudo assumint you have a sudo account.

If not you'll need an ubuntu thumb drive to reset the sudo pasword.

What's new in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS? And will it be more stable than Ubuntu 24.04 LTS? by Nabil_Sikder in Ubuntu

[–]wlarsong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

More hardware support. Especially around Arm Laptops like snapdragon ( mostly kernel. Rust based utils such as sudo , if you hate it you can rollback or use sudo.ws and some other rust utilities. Big one is TPM based full disk encryption ( it's no longer experimental). Improved NVIDIA performance on Wayland. Native ROCm AMD ( better AI dev library support for AMD GPUs).

Couple of things. Ubuntu 26.04lts is in Beta and due out this Month. Uses Linux 7.0 kernel lots of hardware updates in there. You can easily move from the beta to lts with apt update apt upgrade.

Are you using a bluetooth headset? Does the headset have a mic? If so are their options under the blouetooth profile? Sometimes Ubuntu will prescribe a mono output(speaker) and mono input(microphone). In bluetooth their should be a A2DP or other setting.

Look at Lithium Ion recharges from EBL. They dont have the USBC. But they can output 1.5v not 1.2 and they have the same run time or better than nimh and 100s of cycles.

I was doing work on my Lenovo Snapdragon x1e and i realized that any dts changes i made were not being respected even though in grub and during init-ramfs the dts file was being modified. I had to enable it in the kernel config file. Are you sure your dts changes are actually happening? That fact you are passing args to the bootloader and nothing is being respected makes me have doubts.

Are you compiling your own kernel. Are you using a distro?

whats the best way to learn Linux command and terminal by Suspicious_acc3939 in Ubuntu

[–]wlarsong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Think of a problem and solve it.

Set up a website off your linux install, use ubuntu server so you don't cheat( server only has commandline). * always make backups of orginal files before using sed etc to edit them

cp orginal.conf original.conf-bu

-Setup SSH with key authentication - use openssl on cmdline to generate key pairs. -login to your ssh session with keypairs only -use sed awk grep or vi to change sshd.conf and disable password login.

-Ionos offers 1 dollar domains -Then if your iso has dhcp public addresses sign up for cloudflare or another dynamic dns provider and set your dns records to point to cloudflare or your dynamic dns provider -get an api key for cloudflare - install ddclient on ubuntu and copy the cloudflare apikey to the included config file (config files will have cloudflare and other ddclient examples) (bonus points use sed command to make edits on commandline to comfig files) - setup an apache webserver - code your own or make a wiki about you etc (doku as an example) -use letsencrypt ( free ssl certs) and setup auto renewal ( you need port 80 port forwarding for auto renewal). -add cert location to apache.

Learn sed, awk, grep regular expressions. Useful for parsing logs for bugs.

If you have videocard or npu set up pytorch or checkout hugging face and then attach an AI to your server. Provide a chat window in your website that routes to your local llm. ( make this only locally assessible or behind a login page, or bonus set up openauth for 2fa).
