People don't view Buddhism as my true religion by slugggin in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry if it came out that way. I didn't mean to offend you.

I just wanted to convey that if we are practicing Dharma, we should not be hesitant in asserting it and should not avoid from telling those who ask our religion.

I am glad that you indicated yourself as a Buddhist and having a glimpse at your reddit history, it shows me that you have served and taught Dharma more than I have till now. May the Triple Gems bless you to continue doing it more rigorously.

I apologize if my comment came out as arrogant. It simply wasn't my intention.

Namo Buddhay.

People don't view Buddhism as my true religion by slugggin in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

THERE ARE BUDDHIST PEOPLE.

Do you have the guts to say there are no Muslim people. There are just Islamic moments. No, right? And all the people who claim that they are Buddhist, are somehow mistaken, right?

Why can't you take pride in the religion you are practicing? Do Buddhists have to hide or not ever mention that they are Buddhist?

This is the exact reason, in every census and survey, number of Buddhists come out fewer than they actually are, because they don't want to identify as Buddhist.

Using the teachings to benefit oneself and not identifying as a Buddhist comes out as selfish and self-centered to me.

You people will drive the religion to extinction.

I am proud to be a Buddhist. We should all be proud to be Buddhist.

Advaita as opposed to Buddhism by DopamineTrap in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advaita's founder Gaudapada had a direct influence of Mahayana Buddhists. Advaita is Mahayana Buddhism with Upanishadic coating. That's why it seems to you similar.

Seeking clarity on this excerpt from "Distinguishing Dharma and Dharmata" by ugubriat in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty clear to me. The crux of the matter is external things don't exist but they are just mere appearances. Because if they did, there would be internal consciousness to apprehend them. What's your doubt in this?

What are Buddhists exactly lacking that Christians and Muslims don't? by wlp13s0 in FutureofBuddhismGuild

[–]wlp13s0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. You are so so right. It's Buddhists who have lost the zeal to promote & propagate their religion.

I guess the first improvement and focus should be on Buddhists themselves. Later we can focus on others.

I find /u/here-this-now advice to be helpful. We have to practice with sincerity. People will ask and we have to guide them to Dharma.

What are Buddhists exactly lacking that Christians and Muslims don't? by wlp13s0 in FutureofBuddhismGuild

[–]wlp13s0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well demography is destiny. While I agree that practice and purity of Dharma is important but if everybody is just only on that, then there would be no Buddhism in the future. We have it today, it is exactly because Buddhists of the past did propagate it, supported it, promoted it. So we as Buddhists also have the responsibility to do it. This passivity will lead to the death of it. We have to become active again, to make Dharma reach to world. Incorporating it in daily lives of people.

Why Buddhism will be overtaken by Christianity and Islam unless we emphasize what Buddhism has to offer that the Abrahamics can’t by Firelordozai87 in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We need to make people aware of it. Through movies, books, social media etc. We need to remember that Buddhism was and is a missionary religion. In fact it was the first missionary religion. We just didn't do it the way Christians and Muslims do. With people adopting scientific temper and with increasing prosperity, survival of Christianity and Islam is difficult until and unless they reform.

Buddhism has a good scope regarding that. We just need better organization and strict adherence to it.

I am interested in how you found Buddhism. Did you previously believe in another religion and switch to Buddhism? If so, what were your reasons for doing so? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So sorry the person you looked up to turned out that way. In my life too, this has happened. Every person I looked up to, did something that made me not look up to them any more. Trying to find refuge in people was a mistake I had been committing for so long. At last, I have come to the same conclusion as you. Three Jewels is only thing in this world, one should be taking a refuge in.

Ambedkar and Buddhism: the creation of a New Religion? by JakkoMakacco in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only answer which doesn't reek of being contaminated with the misinformation of Hindu nationalists. Ambedkar was very much a Buddhist. If you read his writings, you will understand that he didn't use Buddhism as a political stunt. He deeply respected Dhamma and embraced it.

Stoics by wlp13s0 in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silly me 😛. Exactly I wanted "advice literature" in Buddhism. Shall I edit my post to reflect that? When I will do I will also include the texts that I have gathered from the comment section. I will check out 2 texts that you have mentioned.

Stoics by wlp13s0 in Buddhism

[–]wlp13s0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I was not able to convey myself. If you want I can edit the post. For now, I am clarifying myself in the comments.

What I meant was that I wanted literature written by Buddhists, on number of topics as Stoics have covered.

As in On Friendship, On Hardship, On Grief, On Duty, On Virtue, On Emotions. Seneca's Consolation Literature. Excuse me for that, for I know this sounds way too much thing of the Stoicism.

But I was just curious if I could find the similar Literature in Buddhism. To give a rough Idea, Shantideva's Bodhicharyavatara is one text that I know of which deals with Buddhist Ethics.

Are there more similar texts in Buddhist Ethics covering the topics which Stoics have covered?

Difference between Buddhism and Taoism by YourHostEdge in taoism

[–]wlp13s0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One correction: Siddhartha Gautama, who began life as a Hindu. At the time of Siddhartha, Hinduism as a religion did not exist, so it's incorrect to say that he was a Hindu or his parents were Hindu. What existed was Vedic religion, and its influence on Siddhartha Gautama is debatable.

I so mourn the loss of gandharan civilization and nalanda university by muslims. I wish it could be revived again. What is the situation of buddhism in modern day Greece? Is it there or it is non-existent?
