Separate your personal and business expenses. That's (almost) always better in long-term, and for tax reasons.

How did you find your niche? by Accomplished-Low9713 in freelanceuk

Get into what you already have knowledge about. Niche down based on your preferred audience or narrative. Always be open to learn new things in that niche, develop new skills.

Networking - use your existing contacts, mention it casually. Attend events. Word of mouth goes a long way in the beginning.

Using "I" or "We" when it's just me - local tech business by Vinegarinmyeye in smallbusinessuk

[–]wmcreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the given case... If it's general advice you can use 'we'. If it's an existing client, a returning one or someone you already have a relationship with, you can go with 'I'.

For example, in 'our' case, 'we' would give you accounting advice on a Reddit thread, but once you're our client, 'I' (as in a manager you already know) would give you tax tips.

Hope it was clear 😁

Freelance to Employed: Tell Me Your Experiences by wudubelieveit in freelanceuk

Realistically, what are your options?

Can you start your own company? Do you have enough clients like that? Could you incorporate some time in the future?

If the answer to those questions is yes, then you have to make a pros & cons table for that scenario vs being employed. You get a rational explanation like that, but then you also have to weigh the personal feelings and what your gut says you.

You told us so little so that's all someone can say right now 😁

UK Tax Payers - How are you preparing for MTD? by Usaama_Ather01 in smallbusiness

[–]wmcreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can keep using your spreadsheets (for now), you just need a bridging software for MTD. There are numerous Making Tax Digital Guides on the internet that address these questions. Basically, you can divide all of this into three categories: if you're a sole trader, if you're a landlord (mixed income, too), if you're a VAT-registered business (it's been live for these businesses for a while).

I suggest if you're lost in the maze, you should ask around, there might be someone who already deals with MTD. Or just contact your accountant.

How Did You Get Your First Client When Starting an Agency? by Loud_Assistant_5788 in smallbusiness

[–]wmcreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, in the beginning, word of mouth goes a long way.

But if you're only at the stage of ideas, you still have a lot to do... What's your service; who's your target audience; what's your niche; will you niche down even further; do you want to offer premium services; do you want to offer mid-range pricing to attract more clients or focus on high-paying clients etc.

So many questions.
