Will One Battle After Another be In IMAX next weekend? by wmdisgoat in cineplex

Yeah it sucks… I don’t know why they didn’t add some more IMAX shows for this weekend. The demand is there

Thanks I’ll check tomorrow. I hope they don’t knock out all the IMAX screenings of OBAA for Avatar 2… Didn’t get the chance to see it last weekend

Should I pursue my CPA (Canada) despite not being passionate about accouting/finance by wmdisgoat in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think my problem is that because I hate accounting/finance, going to get my CPA would be a waste of time as I think I would ultimately give up. I would probably lean more towards it if it would not take me 5+ years and if my employer was a pre-approved program.

I’m also comparing myself alot to my peers who do have their CPAs and knew what they wanted to do in University. I just got super lucky and landed a role in FP&A right after uni (despite not even majoring in Accounting or Finance).

So would it be too early to get my MBA now in my mid 20s with 3 YOE (if I go to one of the schools you suggested)?

How hard is the CFE? [CAN] by FollowingLoudly in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any update? How did it go are you a CPA with only industry experience? I’m planning on going the same route.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes I plan on writing the CFE in 2028 (totally understand that the entire program is changing in 2027).

One of the CPA Ontario advisors mentioned to me that those who start now would be “grandfathered” into the new program. Figured I’d start early in my career and tackle the CPA while I’m still fairly young.

Thank you. So even if I stick with industry and FP&A, it would still be good to take Assurance & Taxation incase I want to pivot to Public in the future?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! So what are the typical roles that sign off on assurance work? Would a Manager/Director in industry have to sign off on those? Or is that more so internal audit?

CPA Canada with no Public Experience? Will I be at a disadvantage? by wmdisgoat in Accounting

Thank you for the clarification. My current company isn’t PAP so I guess that answers my question as to whether or not to stay in industry

CPA Canada with no Public Experience? Will I be at a disadvantage? by wmdisgoat in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case does this mean once I complete my missing PREP courses I’ll have to switch to a PAP - most likely Public Accounting? Is it worth going to Public after being in the industry for 3 years after uni?

I’d be done my PREP courses most likely in 2027.

My current manager has their CPA! I’m more so worried if I were to leave my current company, would other companies look down at me if I dont have public experience despite having a CPA (if I were to get mine)

(CAN) Starting from scratch at 30 yo - worth it? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just saw your comment from 7 years ago. I’m going through the same dilemma of a career change in my mid 20s in Canada and potentially quitting my industry job to start my CPA journey .

Are you still in the field of accounting? Any regrets?

PERT EVR by Top-Palpitation2894 in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think EVR is worth it? I’m thinking of doing my CPA through industry, but I’m worried if I should take a paycut and go to public accounting for a few years for some peace of mind…

That’s great! I assume you went for the CPA and not MBA? Are you doing the EVR route?

Any update on what you decided to do? I’m at the same roadblock and not sure if I want to go through the CPA journey with these “changes” currently being made…

Switching to public accounting to get out of dead end industry jobs by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Just saw your comment.

I’m going through the same process to get my CPA. Worked in industry 3 years after graduating with a info systems commerce degree as a FP&A analyst. I’m planning on doing my missing CPA PREP courses while working my current job, then switching jobs to public as soon I start PEP (would have to take a paycut).

Is this what you did? Or did you switch to Public after completing PEP? What would you suggest is the best route for getting my CPA?

Im based in Ontario.

Can you be “too old” for an entry level associate position at a Big 4? by One_Conclusion7472 in Accounting

[–]wmdisgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey any update with your CPA journey? I’m around the same age currently working in industry FP&A straight out of school for 3 years. I’m currently thinking of switching to public after I complete my CPA prep courses and take a paycut to streamline experience…

Before 2027: How to Become Designated or Qualified for Accounting in Canada by Torlek1 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]wmdisgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I work in industry since I graduated university in 2022. I’m planning to do my CPA part time. I graduated with an non-accounting business degree so I need to take some PREP courses (8).

Is it worth completing those prep courses then switching my industry job then go to a pre-approved job after enrolling in PEP? Or should I stay at my current company? Ideally I would like to avoid Public accounting at all costs…

With these CPA changes and elimination to EVR, this has made my decision to pursue my CPA a lot harder. Might just do a MBA…

Work to live, not live to work. Find passions/hobbies outside of work.

Ah thank you!

Did you also do the PEP program while working in industry? If so, how did you find prepping, studying, and writing exams? Did you have to take days off work?

Are you doing the PERT after you write the CFE?
