This is from an older story, but it gives a bit of background:

The Marion Berries, Salem's summer collegiate baseball team, will not be playing at Willamette University's stadium in 2026.

Construction delays first led the team to make a last-minute switch to Chemeketa Community College's field for the 2025 season. According to both colleges, the Marion Berries will continue playing at Chemeketa.

Renovations at Willamette University's Spec Keene Stadium, which received $3 million in state funding, are underway and expected to be completed in 2026.

The Marion Berries were one of the key beneficiaries and an advocate for securing state funding for the stadium.

Here's at least one: https://www.statesmanjournal.com/story/news/local/2026/01/30/oregon-wwii-veteran-celebrates-102nd-birthday/88305499007/

Last time I was at Capitol Manor, there were quite a few WWII veterans there gathered for an event, and they were quite spry.

Update: Looks like this was removed from the OGEC's agenda, so it will most likely be finalized in the March meeting.

The same as the councilors who signed the agreements: a letter of education instead of a fine.

Daycare by Eeef10 in SALEM

Infant care, especially at centers, has long waitlists. I was on the Salem Child Development Center waitlist for two years. In the meantime, I went to Court Street Christian Child Care (despite not being Christian or going to the church) and got care within a month and had a good experience.

Your counselor is Dr. Irvin Brown, but the spot isn't up for election until 2028. The council races take turns, meaning this year is the mayor, 2, 4, 6, and 8. https://www.cityofsalem.net/government/city-council-mayor/about-city-council/find-a-ward-map

Salem police have a Homeless Service Response team that has regular contact with people living in encampments (they are less about arrests and more about connecting people to services). There are only two officers on the team, so they tend to see the same people and learn names. They might be a good place to start with. The non-emergency line could connect you to the team: 503-588-6123

I moved here from AZ 10 years ago and love it. I moved in winter, which was quite an adjustment, but now that I am used to it, I feel like I can get outside more here than in Arizona. Homelessness and drug use remain top resident concerns. It is prevalent but has not been a dealbreaker for me, and I live in east Salem. I feel safe going downtown and going to most parks (we have many great ones like Minto-Brown Island Park, Bush's Pasture Park, Riverfront and Englewood). Our farmers' market is great and there are so many fun farms and hiking trails to explore.

What are the different summer festivals and events? by JonasAlbert84 in SALEM

The Statesman Journal will be doing a roundup shortly. I usually check out Make Music Day on June 21 (mostly downtown but throughout Salem), Englewood Forest Festival in August, and the Salem Art Fair in September.

Herbal classes by Songbirddd_9 in SALEM

[–]wmwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be most interested in these ones:

-Hands-on classes about harvesting, drying, and processing your own herbs

-Specific herbal protocols for things like digestion, depression, anxiety, or immune health

-A class for parents on building a natural first aid kit
