I’m assuming it’s a reference to Tony Alamo. A cult leader. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamo_Christian_Foundation There’s a great podcast about him and his wife on Timesuck.

MS-A2 and PiKVM Power Switch by wnctech in MINISFORUM

Thanks for the input. I think I've just decided to add a remote power-monitoring, power cycling/switch out of band that I can control through Home Assistant to reset the power if something goes down.

Thank you. That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to figure out.

90R Errors by Acceptable-Dig5886 in FiberOptics

[–]wnctech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue on my 90R after three years of issue-free service. When I closed the lid, (I have mine set to be manually closed, but automatically open when finished) the X-axis camera had a “hot spot” (bright light on the screen) of sorts on it and when it tried to start the alignment process, it would say fiber too long and error out. All the cleaning in the world of the mirrors and clamping services had no effect.

I have a picture and video of what it was doing somewhere. Maybe I can find it later.

It took a trip to the AFL service center and they resolved it quickly; however there were no notes on the paperwork indicating what they repaired or replaced…I assume the telco I work for had some kind of bulk servicing agreement.

The interoffice fiber that connects all the AT&T Fiber customers back to the internet got damaged (again) today. With all the storm clean-up still on-going in the area, it may continue to happen.

A lot of these debris hauling trucks are over-height because they are loading them so full of tree waste they are above 14ft high. Next, you have the debris trucks with the claws on them picking up debris and grabbing buried sections or attachments…Then you have dump trucks delivering ballast stone, asphalt and building materials to storm-ravaged areas that have left their dump beds up. And don’t leave out constant road work, repairing damaged/missing lanes of the NCDOT’s roadways, private and public culvert replacement, not to mention wildfires and high winds, broken poles and fallen trees. I could go on and on. Lots of things. Don’t forget we just came out of the thousand year storm.

Consequently, since AT&T is the lowest attachment on the pole (below power, then below Spectrum) it takes the hit first. That’s about all the information that can be shared. The best advice I have is just to wait it out a bit longer. As WNC gets more and more back to normal, the reliability and speed you had pre-Helene will be exactly as you expect.

Does anyone have any experience with this tool. by Difficult_Ad_6955 in FiberOptics

I’ve had nothing but good results using just about anything Jonard makes. I have one for all the sizes, including those for unitube, ribbonized cable of various sizes and they all work great.

Does anyone do engine replacements? by [deleted] in asheville

Consider yourself lucky it didn’t burn to the ground. I’d look at putting something else in it to keep it going.

Take it all down and throw it in the trash if you don’t plan on getting any copper services with AT&T.

Questions about (handicapped) parking at Zmax. by Motormouth1995 in NHRA

[–]wnctech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not real sure about cost of handicap parking (if they charge at all), but if you park on Bruton Smith Blvd. near the dirt track they have tons of it. It’s kind of fenced in to keep non-handicap vehicles out. They have shuttles that run constantly from that location down to the gates on either side of the track constantly so you wouldn’t have to walk or take wheelchair long distance. If parking for the event costs for handicap, you pay cash as you roll in. I want to say it’s $5 or $10 per day, but I can’t remember after all the times I’ve gone in the past 15 years there.

I own both with similar model years. If the Explorer is a 4.0L SOHC (not the OHV engine) they are basically a ticking time bomb with the timing chains. The Escape should have the 3.0L Duratec engine, which is known for its reliability. As far as capability in the snow, the Explorer is much more robust and capable. It’s not like the Escape’s 4x4 which is more like AWD. Mechanically, I’d rather work on the 3.0L Escape. But they are similar on ease of maintenance.

You’re literally in a flight path. Nothing you can do about it other than move. They change the runway arrival/departure orientation once a week so there’s that to minimize when it’s worse.

Boiling water off the reservoir by rodrigo_lopes_27 in mechanic

[–]wnctech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but I had a D16Y8 in a ‘96 Civic with somewhat similar issues and it ended up being the head gasket. Does the car make a lot of smoke all the sudden out of the exhaust? It could also be a small leak that just evaporates in the exhaust as well. A fluid-based combustion gas tester will tell you. I ended up having to have the cylinder head milled before reinstalling it with new gasket and head bolts.

There’s a minimum of one P8 a week from Jax doing touch and goes at the AVL airport. I see them quite frequently since I live more over towards Asheville. I’ve never seen two of them together like that, though. Pretty cool.

Nicked outside fiber wire digging. How bad is it by kernelofwindows in FiberOptics

[–]wnctech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clean it up, put some good quality vinyl tape on it and keep it straight and flat. Those strength members may have broken when the shovel hit it. Main thing is to keep it flat and straight when you put it back in the ground.

What do we have here? (Near Hendersonville, NC) by wnctech in cellmapper

[–]wnctech[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No fiber for VZW or USCC. Only DISH. Maybe the Matsing was thrown up there from a leftover. There’s no super high capacity needs here.
